Great food, an excellent view of the ocean from the patio, and reasonable prices. The cheese enchiladas are terrific! We will be back the next time we go to Galveston. Now, this place isn’t Pappasitos, so if that’s what you’re expecting then you will be disappointed. It’s just a casual little Mexican restaurant where you can enjoy a beer and some good Mexican food without breaking the bank after a day at the beach. BTW, the waitstaff use radios to communicate, which makes the service very efficient. That said, they aren’t the friendliest bunch of people. In fact, the waitstaff might be related to the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld. LOL!

Will not eat here again. Wait staff not friendly at all. Food decent. Had to order milk several times, kept getting cinnamon milk. Margarita was lemon juice with ice, never got water. Waiter sat us, took our order and never returned till we asked for check.

Flies everywhere! Weird smell. Not a friendly establishement. We had some group of people starring us down. I began to think I had something hanging off me lol. Not worth the price. Waitress and waiter very nice.

We were looking around for somewhere to eat and, since everything was slammed, we stopped by this place. Neither of us had been here before. When we walked in, I was already pretty skeptical because it looked dingy and just very run down in general. The staff was okay. They had soccer on the TV turned very low and nothing else going in the background, no music, just near silence. It was weird. The salsa that arrived at our table about 20 minutes after we got there was extremely watery and would barely stay on a chip. The drinks also took a while and all we ordered was a beer and a soda, which came in it’s can. Not sure what took so long with that considering all they had to do was grab it. The food we ordered was about as basic and bland as it gets, nothing impressive at all. It tasted like frozen food warmed up, which I can do myself at home. About the only good thing I can really say is that the prices were great, but I wouldn’t have paid more for what we got anyway. We won’t be going back, that’s for sure. I can think of a ton more Mexican places that are delicious and have great service, unlike this one. Oh well.

This was quite possibly the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. Period. It started off horrible when our server did not even greet us but instead rudely slammed down our chips silently and salsa and asked what we wanted to drink. It took nearly forever to get our drinks, and even longer to get our food– which was bland. Then, waiting for our check and a to go box was a nightmare. Then, as we tried to pay– she overcharged and tried to charge for drinks she never brought to the table. She was incredibly rude when we asked to see how she added up our bill. Overall, terrible service, okay good, and just an awful experience. Save your time and money and go somewhere else.

My fiancé and I stopped by Gordita’s with hopes in enjoying some delicious margaritas. A woman greeted us and directed us to seat anywhere. I went to the restroom and my fiancé grabbed a booth. I sat down and the waitress came and says the margaritas are wine based. Of course I was a little apprehensive but hey what the heck this is a mini vacation. 20 min later a man comes and informs us that they ran out of margaritas… So disappointed! I noticed the waitress having an attitude when I asked why the margaritas didn’t have tequila! So this is based off of our drinks because we left when they ran out of margaritas on a Friday night @ 7!

We go here every time we visit! When we lived here this was our place to go literally one of my favorite Mexican restaurants, most Mexican restaurants in Galveston don’t even have the Mexican culture or anything that reminds you of its origin this one does and they have it top notch

Fairly average Mexican restaurant. We ordered the shrimp enchiladas and the shrimp Tex-mex enchiladas… well, sort of. The waitress got my order completely wrong as I ordered chicken enchiladas and got shrimp Tex mex, but I was wanting to try something new(I guess) so I didn’t mind. Both contained good quality shrimp(if you’ve had CHEAP shrimp you know what I mean) and were mildly flavorful — certainly not flavor-bursting. Aside from a LOT of cheese on the non Tex Mex version both dishes were close to bland-ish. The salsa from the chips and salsa was a thin, warm, soupy salsa making it tough to get much of on the chips. We WILL be back for the fajitas as they made the entire restaurant smell awesome when a table across the way was served. Sure THAT would have flavor to match the smell… We hope.

I love hole in the wall restaurants and this place is one of my faves here on the Island. I’ve never had any problems with the servers, they’re always friendly and quick to serve my food. My favorites here are the tacos, carne asada and tortas. They used to accept cash only but now they have gotten fancy with their iPad looking gadgets and now accept credit cards lol. Try them out! You won’t be disappointed.

We had eaten here before and had a decent experience so we decided to return. It was a Sunday morning early and the restaurant was not crowded at all so there was really no excuse for the inattentive service. When our server brought our meal we asked for salsa, it never arrived, so we had to go get it ourselves. I had the breakfast tacos with potato egg and ham. One was about twice the size of the other, and the small one was all potatoes while the other had none. The taste was OK but the inconsistency in the portions was a bit confusing. My wife had the menudo and Barbacoa taco. The taco was cold and the taste was disappointing. The menudo was also cold and a bit taste list until she added salt. The last time we were here they added hominy at her request, but would not do so this time. Again a confusing inconsistency drives you crazy. Well, at least the coffee was hot.

Thought we hit a jack pot when we first arrived … I love dirty Mexican joints! There were only Hispanics inside. Yes! Love these places ! Well we ordered margaritas and the girl kept speaking Spanish on some walker talkie. We went ahead and placed our entire order and guacamole and chips. Thirty minutes later we had an empty basket of chips, no sauce but guacamole. No drinks, not even water. Of course we didn’t have cash to leave so we could walk out and just pay for the guacamole so we had to wait on her. She never apologized, said its almost ready, nothing! Took her sweet time ringing us up for our guacamole.

Worst possible service ever. Place is packed, 2 people waiting tables, no chips and salsa. What a nightmare this place is on a Saturday night. Might be the last time I ever come here. Why would you close the patio and only have 2 people waiting tables?

The food was good and even unique; however I’m not sure that I would drive to Galveston and say«yeah that’s the place to go», but then this seems to go for all of Galveston’s restaurants for the most part. I particularly enjoyed the rice and the poblano enchiladas which I special ordered. It was good food, but the service and presentation took away from it heavily. I think if a number of subtle details were improved upon this restaurant could easily jump to a four. As a small example and I know this is nitpicky, but there were multiple styles of lightbulbs in the men’s bathroom. The service was quite slow. The chips and salsa were nothing special. Some simple cheap tweaks would really help. I would probably come back here one day, but not sure that I would recommend it to friends and loved ones as the best darn Mexican restaurant I’ve eaten that in a while.

I live here and have eaten here many times. Only times we’ve had bad service was when they had a lot of customers. Food always comes out quick. Although you must hit the atm on the way in and it can be a bit challenging communicating if you don’t know spanish, I keep returning to this establishment for the food itself. Lots of flavor here! Especially when compared to the tourist traps like salsa’s and tortuga(which btw are some of the absolute worst«mexican» restaurants I’ve ever been to…)

Worst place ever. When I get the menu it has a huge breakfast section. about 10 minutes before the waitress actually shows up and we have no Chips and salsa. 1. Waitress comes and I order the Breakfast tacos. She tells me that they don’t serve breakfast past 11:00. Its 11:30. but its no where on the menu. Still we have no Chips and salsa. 2. I say«OK, well I’ll just have what my wife is having» she leaves and I wait about 10 minutes and Still we have no Chips and salsa. I have to get up and ask another server for some. We have 4 people and she brings 1 basket of chips. 3. She brings our food but didn’t bring mine at all and she never ever did. She also never came back to our table. We didn’t even get a check. We had to get up and ask about it. but still I get charged for my meal which she never brought. Oh and the Cash thing sucks. there is one sign when u walk in. And if you don’t see it, they don’t remind you and the ATM doesn’t work.

This is good quality Mexican food that is both filling and satisfying. First, come with cash ready since it’s cash only. We have tried to use their ATM machine and it hasn’t worked for us, so I wouldn’t rely on it. Meats are always cooked well, which is my biggest problem with some places. This place never fails to cook them through. There seems to only be a few waitresses that know English well, and the rest know just enough to get by. But if you’re looking for explanations for anything on the menu, better to use pics from Unilocal or google search an item. Their menu has a lot of options– tacos, enchiladas, empanadas, dinner plates, etc etc etc. Chips and two types of salsa always served, one mild, one very spicy. Or you can order a side of queso, which is pretty good. The physical menu itself is in dire need of replacements. They are falling apart and not the most attractive. There’s lots of seating inside and out. Inside the store, they also sell a lot of Mexican candy and the like. I like sitting outside on nice days and looking at the beach. My favorite meal is tacos de bistec. It’s not too big for someone who likes filling but smaller portions. Steal strips that come with optional cilantro lime, guacamole and sour cream. Definitely would recommend this place for good Mexican on the island.
