OK place If you looking for Chinese food. Not enough shrimp or seafood options for a dinner service. The stir fry bar was ok but needed something more. Probably will try another chinese place and have to compare to see which is better the next time we visit Galveston.

I’ve been to some pretty impressive and quality buffets and I’ve also been to some where the food was barely edible. Sadly(or fortunately) this is neither of those. The restaurant itself is fairly large and can probably accommodate large groups, though on this visit — a Saturday night at 7 pm — the place was almost empty. There was a fairly wide variety of food but the appearance was often not very welcoming. The egg rolls were pretty good. Some of the chicken dishes were okay too but the chicken was quite fatty. The chicken wings had some«stubble» which kind of grossed me out. You know, while I was there I was thinking that it wasn’t terrible(though it definitely wasn’t great!) but now that I’m writing this and reading it back I have to admit that it kinda was gross. So while it’s true that I have had worse, this is so far from the best buffets(see Mandarin in the Toronto area) that I really can’t recommend it.

It’s warm and musty inside. You get what you pay for but I thought even $ 11/person was a little high considering the food quality. It was lukewarm at most. My 8 year old though it was great but he also thinks Panda Express is the best food ever lol. The silverware and some of the plates felt sticky, not too clean. Probably won’t return but on another note, the service was okay.

Worst experience I ever had here. I credit the place is still clean BUT the attitude of the cook de energized my food. Lack of happiness in your work crosses over into your service. Not good.

Very expensive. Food was cold. Nasty buffet. Half the lights were turned off. Dirty place.

Only gave one star because I had to. Food is horrible!!! Prices too high. Got here early and food was old. If you think this is good, you’ve never had real Chinese. Will not ever be back! Only thing healthy here is the exit!

No oysters! It was an usual selection. Nothing really stood out. I did appreciate them having olive oil for the stir fry grill. For advertising healthy it uses plenty of oil etc.

The food was not very good and barely warm. When we raised the issue with the staff they just dismissed us by saying it was a meter of taste!

I’ve tasted better. Their selections were limited. Sushi bar does not even have the basics — sashimi & nigiri. We came in for dinner on a Saturday evening at 6:30 pm and there were barley 30 customers. Ever since they closed the last two good buffet restaurants in Galveston, the Chinese Buffet has become all but extinct on the Island, but if you’re in the mood for some Asian cuisine, what are you going to do… Bön appetite.

Not the best Chinese buffet I’ve ever been to. However, you don’t have much of a choice in Galveston. Everything is fresh so that’s a good thing. They are reasonably priced. Good iced tea. Would recommend if you really have to have Chinese food and are in a hurry.

Really bad chinese food. We came in at 7pm, most dish looks old, dry. Even the egg drop soup looks greenish and tasted bad. Definitely worst Chinese buffet I had.

A run of the mill Chinese buffet. I’d barely give it two stars but it wasn’t the best. I’m from MO and ours is amazing compared to this. Sushi looked gross. Food was chewy… I can’t think of any part that was really that great? They did have chilled crab legs but when we came no crackers to crack them so it was a waste. Def not returning.

I came for the shrimp which was good. The rest of the buffet was average/mediocre. Not the best I’ve had but it was alright.

LOVE this restaurant! They serve REAL Chinese food, super clean, serves alcohol, homemade wonton wrappers, what’s not to love?! Service is always good, they have a great little build your own stir fry area… I’m not that into their sushi however. FAVCHINAFOODONTHEISLANDFORSURE!

The food is mediocre at best, the food is cold and flavor is lacking in luster. The price is not worth the food. I have been here several times simply due to lack of options. But every visit is worse than the one before, I won’t be back. Save your taste buds a dis-pleasurable experience and maybe go to Happy Buddha instead. At least they have a nice bar.

I fell inlove with the lo mein noodles the taste of them reminded me of a Chinese place in California :) but other then that it was alright we came in about 2ish the buffet had a lot on it but things were sitting for a while I say that due to the hard fried bread that my fork would not pick up and the sweet in sour chicken that stabbed my gums :(

Pros: Good food, has a wide verity of stuff. Parking is nice and big(shares parking lot with a number of businesses. Good bathrooms, always nice and clean. And nice staff Cons: they kinda have a problem putting out fresh food when needed. I haven’t experienced this myself, but two of my friends said that they had instances where there food was bad.

For a Chinese food buffet, this place is ok. It’s at least MSG-free, which is more than can be said for competitors. The sushi actually tastes like clean sushi — nothing fancy, but at least it is fresh. It’s included with the buffet. As for the naked seafood on the buffet — shrimp or crab legs, I generally pass it by. It’s exactly what you would expect — boiled shrimp or crab legs. The soups are decent — not overly salty but salted enough to taste ok. The hot menu items and desserts are fairly routine for a chinese buffet. Basically, it’s nothing special, but it’s probably the best Chinese food on the island.

It’s an oxymoron, but I wanted to try it anyway. We came in with a group of 10 for lunch. The place was pretty empty but it was kind of later in the afternoon. They have a lot of options for $ 7.50 a person. They have salads, lo mein, lots of chicken dishes, and even sushi. It’s a little bit of everything but none of it is really anything to write home about. The servers were nice, helpful, and didn’t mind splitting checks up for us.

Healthy Chinese Buffet opened April 24th in the location formerly occupied by Luby’s on 61st street. Its an All-You-Can-Eat chinese buffet that touts itself on using less grease and sodium. I found the staff to be very friendly, and oddly enough, everyone had been given«American» names. Our waitress told us her Chinese name, and raved about how glad she is to be in America and how she is working on getting her citizenship. Anyhow the buffet isn’t bad as far as Chinese buffets go. It certainly won’t replace Happy Buddha, located two doors down, for Chinese food, but its nice to have a good buffet again.(I refuse to eat at the other chinese buffet in Galveston, China Island/China Border, because food there is always cold/soggy…and after I found a roach in the steam tray, I decided never to return!) Anyhow, Healthy Chinese Buffet offers standard buffet items like Sweet and Sour Pork, General Joe’s Chicken, and various vegetable stir fry items. They also have steamed mussels, boiled shrimp, fruit and the obligatory dessert bar. The sushi bar is limited, but you can watch the chef making it fresh behind a glass divide… but perhaps my favorite part about the restaurant is the Hibachi-style grill, where you can choose between pork, beef, chicken or shrimp, add in some assorted vegetables and have it cooked to order(very similar to Hans Mongolian BBQ at Nasa Rd 1& I-45). While Healthy Chinese Buffet won’t be considered anything spectacular by people from Houston or Clear Lake, its nice for us Galvestonians to finally have *GOOD* Chinese buffet again(and an alternative to China Island) And one more thing… Lunch is $ 7.95 and Dinner is $ 9.99. Not a bad deal.
