Sparse schedules(many routes run just once an hour) and buses are never on time. I have waited for the lauded UTMB shuttle(Route 2) many times and the bus has never shown up within 10 minutes of its scheduled time. This forces me to then hightail it on foot from UTMB to the bus depot downtown to catch my connection. I’d given up on the Route 2 until yesterday, when I hoped to catch it to avoid some of the evening pre-Bill rains. Nope– another no show. The drivers are generally friendly, but a couple are completely reckless and speed through neighborhoods. Two stars for existing in this car-obsessed region.

I take this bus daily from Holiday and Harborside all the way to Victory Lakes Park and Ride near 96 and Calder. It saves me 60 miles of wear a day on my car and is cheaper than the gas Id have to buy weekly. They have free WiFi and discounted coupon books. They are punctual and the drivers are safe, considerate, and friendly. Where else can you take advantage of a 60 mile drive without a ton of hassle? Kirk and Lindsay deserve some kudos for their professionalism and consistency. The station agent at the League City Park and Ride, Jeff, is hospitable, helpful, and always greets riders by name and with a smile. What more could you ask from you public transportation service?

Island Transit is a small local transit system that operates the local bus and street car/trolley system. The system has purchased new buses and shelters in recent years and has also expanded there network. Most visitors will find the system more then large enough to get around Galveston however it is by no means a major system. Recently the system had purchased modern buses to replace the aging system, however demand outpaced there budget so some older buses from other systems were purchased for cheap and fast. The system also operates the popular street car system. The system is mostly for tourist use however more recently they have expanded they main line to go to the UTMB medical district.
