Super cute candy and ice cream store. Ordered fudge and ice cream. Decent prices for the area and was delicious!

This little antique candy store was pretty good. Ice cream is just super creamy and is better than the store bought ice cream. Thier shakes are really on par too. When first walking in, I was amazed. There was candy, nuts, chocolates, ice cream, and shakes. It’s definitely a place to bring kids to. Staff and service were super nice and friendly too. My favorite things there though were the nuts and ice cream. The nuts coated in like a cinnamon sugar were super delicious and the ice cream was just like no other ice cream I’ve ever tasted. Definitely a place to stop by if you’re in Galveston. The only problem is parking. Hard to find parking at times and be sure you’re good at parallel parking.

This is a must visit for Galveston. Lots and lots of candy choices, in house chocolates, ice cream, coffee, and of course salt water taffy. We managed to get here during a taffy pull and it was really cool to see the way they make the taffy. Even got free samples! We went to dinner and came back for ice cream. Love it!

This is the end to a perfect day of sun and surf. Kids love watching the taffy pulls and all the treats are amazing. Advice…get the small cone unless you’re really hungry.

$ 9 for a banana split? I can buy two gallons of Blue Bell ice cream for that. $ 6 for a milkshake. Bring bags of $ with you.

I don’t get down here often but I believe every time that I have come to The Strand, I always stop at La King’s for some ice cream. It’s liked of like a tradition. Of course they serve more than ice cream. Really anything sweet with a large selection of candies too. On weekends this place is always packed. A lot of times there aren’t enough seats and you have to eat standing up. That’s ok because it is all so good. The interior reminds you of an olé timey ice cream parlor. Walk in the door and you will see what I mean. You will become a regular customer too.

Stopped in last night after we found out the RMCF was closed for a few after dinner treats. Big mistake. They have almost the exact same types of items in the dessert case, which made our selection process very easy, but wow they were kind of terrible. I didn’t finish the raspberry truffle and my wife’s dark chocolate orange peels were inedible. The boy liked his white chocolate Oreo but overall it was a major disappointment. On the plus side, there is a ton of seating available, lots of staff so long lines shouldn’t be an issue, and they make shakes and sodas(on the left side of the shop). 1.8 stars. Stop in for a shake and to rest your heels. Go elsewhere for chocolatey treats.

I felt like I was in heaven as soon as I stepped inside! It had a nice, warm, and friendly atmosphere and the staff was very welcoming. The candy/chocolates here all looked amazing and it was hard to choose between what I wanted and what I needed. Prices are very reasonable, too, and the fact that it’s by the weight is amazing. This was my first time actually exploring the Galveston area with a couple friends, and this place was an experience in glad I had. My favorite party was when they make the saltwater taffy right in front of you and the staff that makes it sometimes thrown out little wrapped taffies into the crowd. This place is such a nice spot, with many different assortments of sweets and ice creams. Definitely recommend to stop by here if you are in the area.

Saloon style service. Legendary treats! You can get almost anything here. Forget Rocky Mountain, just down the street.

There is absolutely nothing this shoppe can do better. Theyre perfect and thats why theyre the best. Once u step in, uve already leaped into another world. Instant refreshing a/c puts u at ease, a break from the Galveston heat. Gourmet chocolates to candy, taffy n popcorn, to freshly spun caramel nuts over to the row of decadent creamy ice creams… wrapping up with specially made sodas n a crafty espresso bar for all ur caffeine needs. This public haven has it all. Large and spacious, clean facility and restrooms. Countless tables to enjoy ur slice of heaven. Every last employee has a sincere smile and welcoming attitude. The ice cream was cold n flavorful. Hefty, generous scoops with a price that leaves u proud of ur purchase. This is a must when on the strand. This place is truly something special.

I always bring my friends from out-of-town here when they visit. It’s such a fun spot to watch the candy makers pull taffy(they even throw out samples); there’s nothing quite like freshly pulled taffy! They also have really good homemade ice cream, banana splits, and a large selection of candy. A definite must-visit while on the strand!

This is a really good ice cream. It’s really creamy and it is not too sweet so it definitely feels and tastes like homemade ice cream. La King’s has that old times feel with wooden floors, marble counters and a taffy puller. Lots and lots of confectionary delights that’ll make an adult salivate like a kid in a candy store.

Loved walking into this place. With the old time feel, wood floors and its speckled with color from the candy available. On the right side you get your assortment of chocolates, and candy. On the left you can order shakes, floats, malts and Ice cream. Straight towards the back they have an area where they do Taffy pulling demonstrations. Down the center of the store are all the tables and chairs and a small area where they make popcorn and sugared nuts. The smell is awesome once you walk in. Even though it was crowded there are plenty of cash registers and workers ready to help. Their Truffle chocolates are delicious. The candy selection is not very unique as it consists of your typical gummies and taffy. They also have jelly beans. Great place to go have a milk shake and cool out with the family after a long walk along the strand.

We had to go here for ice cream after hearing so many good things about this place. We happened to be there right when they were making the taffy. What a treat! Really enjoyed watching them make the taffy the old fashioned way on the 88 year old taffy-stretcher machine. The ambience is of an old-time ice cream shop in all it’s glory with lots of eye-catching candy. Really was a «treat» for all of us!

La King’s is an island treasure for locals and a hot spot for tourists looking for a unique experience. Originating in Houston and moving to The Strand in the 1970s, the confectionary has given treats and desserts to visitors ever since. The shoppe is set up like an early 1900s restaurant complete with employees dressed for the time period, which kids love to see. Their offerings include ice cream and floats, handmade desserts, and handmade candies. Their candy selection is a full bar that stretches the length of the shoppe that includes fudge, toffee, truffles, caramels, and a blend of flavors. Their best-known item is their taffy, which they not only make in-house but make in front of customers! The back of the shoppe features a section where visitors can watch them mix and pull the taffy. Their flavors are tasty and range from fruity to a little savory. They are always friendly and usually busy during the summer. The off-season is a much better time to visit, but be sure to check their hours because many shops on The Strand close early between October and April.

This just may be the best place on earth! I love the look and feel of the shop, makes you feel like a kid with so much to see! My husband and I stopped in while on a Valentines date. It was busy and full of people, the service was wonderful and I really enjoyed the specialty coffee!

A must when coming to visit Galveston! I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed here yet. Sugar galore! milkshakes, malts, popcorns, old fashion candies, saltwater taffy, assorted gummi, assorted chocolates, soda fountain, and ice cream! There are taffy demonstration and free taffy to taste. I end up buying a quarter of a pound and eating it when I get home. Their pistachio ice cream is the best! It’s creamy and it’s got big pieces of real soft pistachio inside. Fresh and Delicious!

This place is incredible. They make their own ice cream and taffy in house. It is reminiscent of an old fashioned ice cream shop, that’s probably because it’s been here forever but I don’t know. It is also on the strand which is a great part of Galveston with tons of stores and restaurants. You wait in line to get your ice cream cone filled with delicious sweet and tasty ice cream. It was sooo good. Just remember July in Texas is hot so when you walk outside with your delicious cone it will be running down your arm and making a mess. All of the kiddos had to do an outfit swap when we were done. It was so worth it though.

What a great place to visit while in Galveston. It’s a nice store to take a break from the brown ocean. They have taffy, chocolate, gummies, hard candy and ice cream. I bought some taffies but I came here for the ice cream. After reading about La King’s ice cream I knew this would be a good place to stop by. The location is in East downtown and the parking here sucks! We literally had to park a block away from this store. One of the guys working there, recommended cookies and cream. I asked for one scoop but it looked like two scoops. The ice cream was really good! The cream wasn’t as sweet and it actually tasted like cream. The ice cream texture was smooth unlike others where it’s old and frozen. Walking a block in the hot Texas heat was far worth it! I haven’t tried the taffies yet but I’m sure they won’t be too bad.
