I haven’t been to the Rosenberg library in years! I refuse to say how many years out of fear of showing my age but let’s just say I may have been in middle school the last time I went in here. I was impressed with the upgrades. They got rid of that old revolving door and gave us an automatic door. The front desk was clean and refreshing. I needed to use the computer and was politely directed to the third floor. I chose to take the stairs because I wanted to take it all in. I made it to the 2nd floor and realized that the stairs were closed to the 3rd floor and I had to take the elevator. Once I made it to the 3rd floor, I realized they must have stopped the updates somewhere on the 2nd floor. It seemed very old and rustic up there except for the reception desk. The ladies there were very nice as well. Printing is 10 cents per page btw, I’ll go here again, maybe I won’t wait so long next time.

Great Library in Galveston! This library is located across the visitor center and has a free museum on the upper levels. There are a few interactive«stations» within the museum that are great for people of all ages. We spent about 30 minutes there but I can see people spending more time if needed. This is also a great place to see if you are waiting for a tour to start like we were.

I cant believe I have been on the Island for a year now and this is my first time stopping at the Rosenberg Library. I’m ashamed of myself! I pulled up to the building and I thought it was another courthouse or government building. It’s HUGE and beautiful on the outside and there is plenty of street parking. I believe you can also park in the lot across the street. I spent the first 30 minutes walking around and exploring. I only walked around the second and first floors this time. I was looking for a specific book and I needed to get a library card. I found my book without any hassle because this library is very organized and there are a lot of options! They also have some lightly used books that are available for purchase. To get a library card, all I had to do was bring in something with my name and address on it proving that I lived in the state and my photo ID. I still have my Colorado ID so I needed to bring in other proof. A Texas drivers license with a current address with suffice. The lady helping me was very nice and helpful and told me about all the library’s special features and amenities. If the line is too long, they have a kiosk so you can check your books out that way. Did I mention they also have a DVD collection? You can call and reserve them if you wish as well. They have tons of programs for kids, new computers for surfing the Internet or writing a paper, and even a small museum. It is the oldest library in the state of Texas and it’s fun to read about that history. I highly recommend this library to anyone. If you aren’t as much into reading as I am, it’s still a cool place to see if you are in the area.

This library is cool because it is so old and has a history. The building is beautiful, like others have mentioned, but let’s face it, that’s not why you go to a library. It’s VERY noisy(loud talking, screaming kids, people on cell phones, etc) and you can’t concentrate, the service is lacking and the selection is limited. I also couldn’t get WiFi. A library has to have WiFi now… Needs improvement.

An awesome meeting of culture and class. This library has everything any world-class facility has and MORE. The children’s programs are first rate and the 3rd floor museum houses the greatest archives in Texas. Thanks for all you do!

The Oldest Library in Texas is also the Coolest! When my stay-cation at a friend’s beach house went warm(the AC went down), the kids and I decided to seek out entertainment and cooling at the Rosenberg Library. Located just off Broadway behind the Galveston Island Visitor Center and the Salvation Army Thrift store, the Library is in a beautiful, classic structure that has survived many a hurricane. The interior has a beautiful main lobby in marble and wood. The small, but well stocked children’s collection is paneled in gorgeous wood. The adult & non fiction collections are located in a more contemporary setting towards the rear of building. The Library has a small, but strong collection of books and periodicals. Computers and Wi-fi are available. Make sure to visit the second floor that houses a small, but interesting maritime museum of models and maps of Galveston and its port. You can’t miss the stunning Lalique Glass collection. It’s almost seems out of place until you think of the money and influence that was part of the Golden Age of Galveston. You can also pick up a reproduction map or post card prints of old Galveston. The Rosenberg Library is open to all. A library card is free to all Texans(with a valid driver’s license). So don’t hesitate to checkout a good book or DVD on your weekend jaunt to the Island. My Tip: When it’s time to chill out away from the beach and stop spending money on the Strand, check into the Library.
