I love going here for the lunch special during the week. I always get the teriyaki chicken and it’s delicious. I am a repeat customer and plan to be for the remainder of my time here in Galveston.

I have wanted to come here forever. I’m disappointed to say the least. Sad excuse for sushi! All the rolls are made ahead and they should be ashamed at calling the sushi in pieces. Slivers more like it. Drink I had was ok but I am sure I saw the girl toss part of it.

Very good sushi. Unique items. Wait staff was attentive and friendly. Small cozy place. Outdoor seating is available, however we sat inside.

One of the best dinning experience in my life!!! Food is awesome, I’ve got the Scorpion roll and a couple of cold appetizers which were beans and raw seared tuna(OMG it was excellent!!!). Everything came out fresh and so tasty! Our server was very attentive and fast as well! Great location, nice and comfy little patio, friendly environment! Would definitely recommend it to my friends!

This used to be our to go sushi place when it first opened. Once it changed locations to the smaller next spot door it just seems cluttered kind of dirty and the atmosphere isn’t very pleasing in comparison to how gorgeous it was when they first opened. The food is ok but not spectacular. We had Gyoza, the Kemah crunch roll, and several other apps. I had a martini, a champagne 2 of us at happy hour over $ 70.00 that is a pretty hefty happy hour. I think it is from 5−10pm the happy hour. Too many HH options on the island for settling for less than what makes you happy.

The pictures on Unilocal are NOTHING like the restaurant. I hate to write a bad review but I need to. We had a girls night and the food was so disappointing. 1. $ 14 roll was drenched in sauces and the shrimp was super soggy. It was pretty obvious it was not freshly made. 2. Filet Mignon was awful. It tasted like POTROAST and was $ 35! 3. Edamame was bland, served soggy and cold. The other roles were not good! HEB sushi was better than this. The service was great on the flip side. Will not return.

Get the seafood gumbo. It’s got a nice curry flavor. Nice firm fish, scallops, crab, shrimp. Happy hour on a cool evening on the street. We were intending on getting a couple pieces of sushi but great prices and a suggestion from a patron to try the soup kept us there for dinner.

Galveston is very limited when it comes to sushi, but I really like this place! I find their rolls fresh and delicious, my favorite being the scorpion roll. I must say that this place is kinda pricy for the amount of food you get, but when it’s 10 pm on a Saturday night, it’s worth it(considering many Galveston restaurants close at 9, with the exception of fast food). Their cocktails are strong and I don’t find them tasty, but if I ever want sushi, this is where I’m going.

We found ourselves in Galveston on our wedding anniversary so we thought we would give this place a try. The highlight of the mail probably was the appetizer the seven spice calamari. Our waitress was friendly but oh so slow. The restaurant was only about a quarter full so this was a bit surprising I had the steak which was more vegetables than meat and my wife had the world’s smallest jumbo shrimp and salmon salad Nothing remarkable about the meal but a nice quiet surrounding. We may return in the future but again there are many more Galveston spots you’d like to check out

Sunny skies again… During the Labor Day holiday we visited Sky Bar Steak and Sushi after a rather longish hiatus. Were we glad to be back? I’d say so. While I’ve always considered it to be the best sushi restaurant option in Galveston, we’d had a few visits where the lackluster service trumped the quality of the food. This most recent experience certainly helped mitigate the past, and I anticipate that Sky Bar will go back onto our regular rotation of eateries to enjoy. Ambiance: I suppose in food critic parlance, Sky Bar would be described as «sleek» and«snug» which translates into clean, modern lines, but small! When dining there during non-peak hours, size isn’t that much of an issue, but when the after Art Walk or performance at The Grand crowds converge on it, things can get a bit too cozy for comfort. That said, most folks recognize this and take pains not to spill beyond their designated dining space. Food: We started with 7 Spice Calamari(nom, nom, nom) which was light and crunchy and made all the better by the addition of sliced jalapenos. Gotta hand it to Sky Bar when it comes to calamari — they take a dish that’s become beyond ubiquitous(and often downright boring) and transport it back to being a little daring and exotic. To counteract my enthusiastic consumption of fried squid, I elected to go light on the rest of the meal: salmon and yellowtail sashimi and sweet shrimp and scallop sushi. First off, kudos for freshness in appearance and flavor. When sashimi tastes as good as this, I roll my eyes at people who insist they just can’t eat raw fish. My only quibble is the cut. When getting a particularly rich fish, my preference is to have it cut thinly, and Sky Bar goes for large chunks. Remembering this, I mentioned it to our server and she offered to share my request with the sushi chef. What resulted was smaller chunks — better, but not quite there. The sweet shrimp accompanied by its fried head could not have been improved upon. Too bad Dan didn’t order it, too, because then I would have had two fried shrimp heads as I haven’t been able to sell him on their charms. The chopped scallop with spicy mayo made my heart sing. Okay, enough about my food — here’s the skinny on Dan’s. It won’t be elaborate because this is my review, not his. He had the sushi combo B which apparently must have been alright judging from the fact that at meal’s end, there was absolutely nothing left. Oh, he did mention that the 7 Spice calamari needed a larger portion of dipping sauce, but he’s sauce-obsessed and would say that about any dish that came with it. We each had a glass of fume blanc — no complaints there: generous pour that complemented the food quite nicely. Service: I’d venture to say that both diners and restaurateurs know that one too many experiences with rude or inattentive waitstaff can have a deleterious effect on return visits no matter how good the food and look of a restaurant might be. Having had some issues with Sky Bar in the past, I am fully prepared to put that behind me. This time, everyone we encountered was friendly(but not overbearing), welcoming, and seemingly bent on making sure we were happy and well fed. It worked. We were!

The sushi was just ok. Located in downtown this places location is GREAT! Our service was not amazing. For that reason I’ll give it 3 stars and not 5. The sushi was not really fresh. I like my sushi place in College Station better, but visiting, on vacation, this place was ok!

Great place to hang out. Coconut shrimp is awwweeeesooomeee. Their pan seared dumplings, superrr. Sushi is great. What else can you ask for. I just went for the food. Service is awesome. Ambience too is great. Little tricky regarding parking coz it is street side and you gotta make few turn arounds to find one especially during busy weekends.

Come here if you want a sushi fix and don’t want to leave the island. Their tempura is delicious, as are their sushi rolls. The miso soup is always good as well. Came here for restaurant week and the meal came with a dessert — fried bananas with ice cream. It was absolutely delicious and even though we were stuffed, we gobbled it up.

Unfortunately, Galveston is extremely limited on sushi options on the Island. That being said, Sky Bar isn’t bad. For the most part, the sushi is pretty good and the ingredients are fresh. The main drawback is the limited space. Half of the restaurant is a long booth against the wall with tables in front of it so you will definitely be sitting next to strangers, listening in on their conversations. I don’t particularly like not feeling like you have enough space between you and the next customer so I usually avoid coming here for dinner. The best thing about Sky Bar is their double happy hour prices. This is from 5 pm to close so your best bet is an early or late dinner.

Come here often because it’s so close to my house. Food is good, however prices are high for what you get. 2 orders of avocado sushi rolls usually ends up being around $ 17. Best time to go is happy hour, as they have reasonable drink specials and several appetizers to choose from. Okay ambience and decent service. Parking can be difficult during peak hours and not good for large groups of people as place is very small. One of the few places where you can find sushi on the island.

I went here with a friend on Saturday around 9:45pm. We were immediately seated and informed that if we wait 15 minutes, their backwards happy hour starts. Of coure we’ll wait! This place is pretty small but the food and prices are really good. We sat at the bar and were pretty cramped. Sky Bar is not good if you’re looking for privacy or intimacy. There is a long booth against the wall and tables in front of it. You will be seated next to strangers if this place gets crowded. I ordered 8 different things(both food and drinks) off the happy hour menu and my ticket was only $ 28. I even tried their tempura bananas with ice cream, yum! Honestly, the drinks weren’t very strong but at $ 3 per martini, how can you complain? 10pm-midnight happy hour on Saturdays

Meh. I’ve definitely had better. Being next to the water, I expected better fish. Maybe I did get better fish but they pour so much sauce over their sushi, hard to taste the actual fish! this is American dumb down sushi and it’s not even good. This girl went to college in Galveston and suggested this place to me. She needs to get her taste buds check. I’m a food snob. We got a variety of rolls, Tristar, Louisiana, Vegas, and a dragon roll. Along side of potstickers and the shrimp dumplings. Those were garbage. I make better ones at home. Sushi were edible…

Date night with some friends, so we decided on Sky Bar because hubs and I had never been. For starters, I ordered the Sky Classic martini. Generally, when I get a classic martini, after just one, I’m feeling mighty fine … well during the course of our 2 hour dinner date, I had 3, yes, 3 of them … and I had only a slight buzz. Not sure what the deal is with that! As an appetizer, hubs and I got the chicken yakitori … nice chunks of chicken with tomatoes and some other veggies with a teriyaki sauce on it … pretty tasty! For my meal, I ordered the Habanero Roll and Roll on Fire(yes, I ordered 2 rolls and if you have ever read some of my other reviews, you already know that I can put throw down on some food with the best of them!!). Anyway … the rolls, YUM! The Habanero(or Habanera as it’s spelled on the menu) roll had salmon on top and a little kick! The Roll on Fire had chili sauce on top and had a nice kick! Our waiter, Logan(who was incredibly attentive and nice), also brought out some spicy mayo and Sriracha sauce … OHYEAHMELIKEY!!! Now that’s the kind of kick in the taste buds I’m talking about! Hubs ordered the steak(because he hates sushi) and he said it was«ok, but bland». We cleansed the palate with some green tea ice cream … again, tasty. I will say that they would have earned an extra star if: A) The 3 martinis I had gave me a better buzz B) They had a better selection of non-fruity martinis. I like my liquor with a kick, nothing girlie! So there you have it! I can’t say that I would go back because there are far better sushi choices closer to home, but perhaps if I were on the island again I might.
