3.5 for Com Tam. I’ll keep this review short. Food is good, prices are good, service is friendly and quick. My only gripe about this place is that there’s no ambiance here. You just kind of go there to grab a bite to eat and then you’re on your way. It’s very forgettable which is why it loses .5 star. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here unless I was a local and even then this places doesn’t stand out from any other vietnamese restaurant in garden grove. But all in all I think this place is good and if you’re in the area and looking for vietnamese food it’s worth a try.

Came here on Thanksgiving day. I was surprised it was opened. The food was good, as I had expected. The service and cleanliness however, could be improved. Perhaps the place was understaffed on the holiday but it wasn’t busy crazy busy either. There was only one other party besides us. Now I’ve been to the Tran Quy Cap on Harbor many times, and loved going there but I don’t think I’ll be back to this location.

One reason why it’s so awesome to crave Vietnamese food in my home area is that there’s a great abundance of restaurants around Garden Grove where you can get some. Why it’s not awesome is because my mom can make much better. However, I can’t always access that resource SO when it comes to a craving for com tam, I try to find good places. This one came highly recommended on Unilocal so it was worth a shot. The complimentary fare came out quite quickly with the standard selection of Vietnamese greens for the vegetables. There were also plentiful small bowls of the fish sauce with shredded carrots. We also got a small bowl of warm broth which was just okay. My dish was the BÁNHHOITHITNUONG, CHAGIÒ(vermicelli noodle, BBQ pork, and egg roll). The com tam was going to be ordered already so why not try something different? I really enjoyed everything on top but when it came down to it, the bánh hoi was definitely old. I mean, it was dry and tough in some areas meaning it had been out a while and most definitely not fresh. All the other stuff was great including the BBQ pork but no amount of drowning the bánh hoi in fish sauce would make it soft enough for my liking. Duke D. got the Combo 2TÀUHUKY, TÔM, THITNUONG, BÌCHA(rice with fried shrimp cake, shrimp, pork, shredded pork skin, egg cake). I’ll give my rating of this place a slight boost for this because it was definitely done well. Unfortunately, I found the egg cake to be quite tasteless and too cold. The fried shrimp cake had a nice touch to it in bean curd. They do their BBQ pork well here with its slight sauce, flavorful char, and thin texture. The rice was also great and overall, the entrée is a dish done well. It all hit the spot so I’ll come back. It was inexpensive and the guy even gave us some free tea on our way out!

Fantastic broken rice here. The other reviews are spot on. I liked it a lot when I went with Minerva T. The place is pretty clean and organized. I got the #2 from the menu and it was delicious. Portion was pretty big for an average sized Asian like me. Oh well, more to take home and eat later! Pricing was fair and worth it. I didn’t question how much things cost after I’ve tasted how good everything was.

I’m not a fan of com tam, to me, every com tam in any restaurant is the same, nowhere has stood out to me yet. But after closing for a period of time and re-open again. My bf said that their taste has changed, and that he liked them better back then. For me, I like their bun thit nuong, it’s very good.

Wow, they upgraded since the last time I visited. The DIY air conditioner in the wall was replaced with a nice flat screen TV. However, it plays Paris by Night or something similar. The utensil/chile tray is VERY clean for a Vietnamese restaurant. They finally decided to open up the metal bars across their doors so the place looks more welcoming. The Com Tam: No complaints here. I liked that the broth bowl came with a bit of veggies(mustard?) in it.

Iv been coming here for the past couple of years and every time, it HITSTHESPOT! I love the way they marinate the BBQ Pork and make their crunchy shrimp cakes. The food is simply delicious and can be eaten for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Before their renovation I was a bit skeptical of the food due to the cleanliness of the dining area and floor. After having the food, I was amazed. It was tasty and the BBQ was always flavorful. Since they char grilled the pork it had a nice BBQ flavor to it, rather then just stove top grilling it like most other com tam joints. After the renovation it seems that the staff has kept their higher standards and has kept the dining room and floors cleaner. The food has remained delicious as always. Overall, 5 stars and will always stay 5 stars for their delicious char broiled BBQ pork! :)

It’s been almost 2 years since I last came here and surprisingly — not not — I ordered the exact same dish as before! The #2 combo is now $ 8.95, still an excellent deal, but portions size has shrunk just a little, but still the plate is more than enough for me alone. I asked for a small box and put half of it in there for later. I like the mustard green soup that is complimentary and my friends who were there — Carlos K and another friend, both liked it too. Carlos had the bun and proclaimed it even better than Hoa Binh which was surprising since he’s such a Hoa Binh loyalist! Service was good when you brought things to their attention. They were always quick to respond. However, they weren’t observant, but then again, I don’t expect that in lil Saigon anyway. I think I’m going to have to go back and try all the other com tam places again to see if this place still remains highest on my list of com tam restaurants.

This place is awesome! The rice plates are soo good… Please open one in San diego! The first thing they do is bring you a bowl of soup and then take your order. The music they play is vietnamese music so it makes you feel like you’re in Vietnam I guess… They have pictures of the food on the wall. The customer service is awesome. The fork, spoons, knifes, napkins are on the table… They even left a pitch of water for us on the table as well… We paid in cash so I’m not sure if they take credit card… Oh yea there’s plenty of parking spots outside… They are located in the southeast corner of ward and mcfadden.

You know, like a frog sitting in a pot on a lit stove, slowly but surely places that purport to serve«com tam» have cut corners so that people have accepted the crap that comes on the plate. We’re talking fatty meats, precooking, and some places even deep-fry their«grilled» meats. Whatever is quickest and cheapest, I suppose. This place is legit… they actually grill up their meats, and the flavor shines through. The rice is the right consistency and texture. Portions are decent, prices were very fair. I had the thit nuong which was mostly lean. The egg rolls were very good. And I really enjoyed the bowl of broth. The space itself was average on space(probably could seat 35 – 40), but the service was friendly. I really want to give this place 4.5 stars, and I would if I didn’t have the personal rule of rounding DOWN at the 4 – 5 star level. But this may very well be the best com tam around, at least on this side of the Pacific.

I grew up on going to com tam(vietnamese broken rice) places all over Little Saigon, so decided to check out a new place. We went for a homey Sunday brunch. Food roundup: Com tam with eggroll, chinese sausage, and bbq pork: The eggroll was pretty tasty and had lots of flavor and the more bubby, crackly skin. The chinese sausage was cut up in ½ rounds and the bbq pork here is definitely more on the sweeter side. Com tam with bbq pork, egg/pork cake, and pork skin(bi): My egg/pork cake(cha) was seriously 90% egg and 10% meat and hardly any glass nooodles, boo. Everything else was standard. Side of 2 sunny side up eggs: Cooked well although a small bit of cooked yolk near the bottom. When you order this with your meal, it comes on a separate plate. Lowdown: Typical hole in the wall mom-n-pop broken rice place in Westminster. Only a 2.5(round to 3) for me because: the soup that comes first doesn’t have a piece of yummy pork bone and meat like other places, the meat/egg loaf was almost all egg, I prefer the pickled cabbage over the daikon/carrots as the veggie component, and the meat is a bit sweet for my taste. I’ll stick to Com Tam Thuan Kieu or Com Tam Tran Qui Cap for my fixes.

Hella good. I got the combo A plate which came with the egg cake thing, sliced sausage, skewered shrimp, more pork, and a fried pork/shrimp cake thing. And every bite, i swear, rocked my world. too bad garden grove is too far to eat there more… additionally i got the ca phe sua da(spell?) and it didn’t come with the little drippy thing and i was sad
