I always call for to-go over the phone and either my boyfriend or I go pick it up(orders usually take 20 mins) and every time I call, it’s a pleasant talk over the phone with the employee there! They’re really nice I can’t emphisize that enough. And whats better is that the food is great EVERY time. So far tried the shish kabob plate, adana plate, and theyre all so delicious(i love that it comes with hummus and pita bread OMGANDTHEFRIEDJALAPENO/PEPPER omg). Never a bad experience with Jack’s bakery! Keep it up guys!

Falafel here is freaking amazeballs! Definitely a must try! It’s so fresh tasting and delicious without feeling heavy! So close to my house so it’s a plus, and Jack is so friendly and funny.

My daughter and I decided to stop here on a whim and we are so glad we did! Jack was friendly and welcoming and answered all of our many questions. My daughter says it’s the best falafel she’s ever had, and I have to agree with her. Everything was fresh, smelled amazing, and tasted better. If you haven’t tried Armenian food yet I highly recommend Jack’s.

Oh yum! Found this tiny place on Unilocal, and boy am I glad. When I got there, Jack told us that many Angelenos drive down to his bakery to buy stuff a lot. To eat, and take home. Got the walnut and pistachio baclava, and number 16 platter. It’s amazing. You know, I had to wait a while for the platter to be served, like a good 20 minutes. That’s why I offed one star. But otherwise the food is solid. The beef is flavorful, the chicken is tender and the rice is pretty well seasoned. Yum yum. Jack’s a darling, too. Good place and I’ll come back if I’m around the area. But I wouldn’t specifically drive down from LA.

Spent so many years living right by it without knowing how great it is. Would strongly recommend the steak; baklava is also delicious!

Delicious!!! Too bad most of the pastries are sold in bulk. Wish they would sell them individually. I’m a cheapo and don’t want to spend 10 bucks on a small bag of bread or cookies. Maybe if they where assorted I would be more tempted to purchase! Oh and I returned on a Saturday around five and it was closed, even though they claim to be open until 8 :( Otherwise I highly recommend this place :)

This place is tucked away in a tiny little parking lot. The owners are the sweetest, kindest people you will ever meet. The food here is fantastic. I’ve had almost everything here on the menu. The kufte(kibbeh) is phenomenal. The shell is rather thin STUFFED with meat, full of flavor. The falafel is made to perfection. The baklava is not overwhelmingly sweet like most places. I always pair it with a good cup of coffee, and always take some to go. It is definitely worth the drive.

This place is great. Upon walking in, I was greeted right away by Jack. Even though we traded only a few words, I could tell how sincere his every words were. Jack just emits an aura of friendliness that I can’t fully describe. There was two groups before us but surprisingly, the wait wasn’t that long, even with only Jack and a second person working the kitchen. The shawarma sandwich and falafel sandwich were just amazing. Though the shawarma one was a bit more on the saltier side. The shop doesn’t look amazing from the outside but there’s a homely feeling on the inside. I definitely will be coming back soon.

I cannot say enough good things about this place, and I can guarantee that me and my family will be back whenever we’re in the area. My family and I were trying to find a place to eat lunch on Christmas Eve, and my dad really wanted something Middle Eastern. Since we don’t normally eat Middle Eastern while we’re in Southern California, I looked places up on Unilocal, saw Jack’s, and headed on over with my family. From the outside, it’s not very impressive — my mother made a face as we were pulling up and asked, «Do they even have seating?» To be fair, it’s a a Middle Eastern bakery at the end of a strip mall filled with typical Southern-California Vietnamese restaurants and stores, so I can see where the skepticism comes from. But! There is seating on the inside, and a table outside if it’s not too chilly. When we walked in, there were some firemen sitting waiting for their orders and the owner came out of the kitchen briefly, looked at us quizzically, and said, «Can I help you?» My mom was flustered and started ordering right away, and soon we were all chiming in with the dishes that we wanted. We found out later once we had finished eating that Jack(the owner) was actually swamped with orders on Christmas Eve and Christmas, and doesn’t usually take any orders from walk-ins when he’s so busy. But he said that we looked confused enough that he knew that we hadn’t been here before and decided to serve us lunch anyways. I can’t remember specifically what we ordered now… we had a few of the combos(I think the kebab plate, and maybe the shwarma too), an order of the falafel combo, a salad, plus a round of the two types of baklavas and Turkish coffee. The portions are generous and everything is fresh — my mom asked for a side of salad and it was chopped up and tossed right away! The falafel was delicious and just moist enough, and I really loved my combo of chicken and beef(especially paired with the rice! The rice was so good.) Also each other also included hummus, which was also delicious! We finished our meal by trying Jack’s special dessert — in one of the photos, I see that it’s called«kunafa», but he asked us to try it and said that it’s «like nothing that you’ve ever tried before» and he was right! It was really good — the flavors were well balanced(not too sweet, not too savory), and the outside was perfectly crispy. He also answered our many questions, talked a little bit about himself and the history of his little bakery, and gave us some recommendations on what to take up to San Francisco when we went up the next day to see the rest of our family. Overall, this is a great find in the area, and a really nice alternative to the plethora of Asian food around SoCal. Jack is so kind and hospitable, and we really appreciated the amazing meal.

I always wanted to try this place since it was right across the street from my old high school and my boyfriends house. I probably had this place bookmarked for 3 years! Before I walked in, I was already greeted by the owner. The sound that goes off when you walk in kind of threw me off. Reading the reviews, I wanted to try something sort of familiar. I opted for the shawarma sandwich and the adona kebob plate(the owners recommendation). He told me to have a seat while my food was being made. I couldn’t help but look at all of the bakery items on the counter! They all looked so good but I knew that whatever I just ordered was going to be a big meal. I decided not to, but they looked so good!!! My food was ready in about 15? Minutes or so. I brought it to my boyfriends house to eat so I wouldn’t be tempted by all of the pastries no longer. The food was delicious! I usually never eat any peppers or vegetables but I decided to give it a try. A piece of that huge green pepper with each bite takes the kebob to a whole different level! The pepper was sweet but spicy! I can still feel the spiciness of the pepper right now as I am writing this review! I was also able to eat everything in my sandwich(onions tomatoes and everything else) so proud of myself! Oh and the hummus and pita bread are delicious. I cannot wait to come back and try everything else on the menu!

I love this place. I was just talking to Jack the other day about his Shawarma wrap. I told him that I get so fired up about how good it’s going to taste as a I drive to his restaurant, but than when I’m there eating it, it’s even better than I imagined. I need to go here more often.

«What’s a man gotta do for a Gyro!!!» That’s a phrase my kids have learned to hate, since I’m the one blurting it out every couple of weeks. I get these cravings… hankerings…for that salty, moist but crusty meat wrapped in a warm pita, loaded with chunky fresh toppings, dripping down my arm. My go-to places have been Pita Fresh Grill in Foutain Valley and HB Pita in… you guessed it… HB. High rent forced out PFG and HB Pita is closer to home, not work. I was disappointed in Daphne’s and sought out a new place. George’s Burger, Gyro n Kabob… all so-so. After my 2-star review at Daphne’s, Dan H. suggested Jack’s Bakery. A had it bookmarked for a year but I didn’t realize it was a place for gyro’s. I headed up there on Friday and I’m glad I did. Now, I’m no expert on middle eastern cuisine. I really love the food… Turkish, Greek, Syrian, Persian. I’ve had quite a bit, but the gyro is sometimes missing, meaning they just don’t serve it. Depending on who you talk to, it’s considered peasant food or not worthy of the menu, the cheap meat, etc. As I walked in to Jack’s, I was struck with the same feeling…“What’s a man gotta do to find a gyro?” That’s right… no gyros. I asked Jack, the portly proprietor and namesake, to explain what his shawarmer is. Sliced beef tri-tip, roasted on the spit, he explained, was a far better cut and not a hamburger mixture. OK. I trust Dan H. and I do love tri-tip, so I was in. It took a while for the food to come out and I was alone in his restaurant. While I waited, I was able to check out why this place is called a bakery instead of a restaurant. Lots of baklava, finger baklava, brioche rolls, and a few varieties of cookies. Quite a few of the savory items are fresh baked items with meat or veggie fillings. I ordered the shawarma plate which came with all scratch-made sides. Perfectly flavored and textured tahini dressing, hummus, chopped tomatoes, marinated onions, pickled turnips and 2 huge pitas. The meat was cooked perfectly with a salty crust, enough marbling to add juiciness and a perfectly balanced bite. I made a couple of sandwiches and there was enough food to fill a hungry belly. I did want to try the falafel and got an order of three pieces… way too much food, but I do this for my Unilocal audience and sacrifice my body and budget for you folks. Really the best falafel I have ever had. Piping hot, huge golf ball sized fluffy puffs. Light and airy and perfectly seasoned, served with the tahini sauce. Simply delicious. I had the S-cookies this morning with my coffee and, while not very sweet, were baked perfectly with a rich spice flavor. No gyros, but a fabulous bakery and restaurant. Jack was warm and inviting and explained his 20-year history in the building and his pride for his home-made cooking and baking. This little strip mall bakery pumps out some great food.

I’d had Jack’s bookmarked for YEARS and I finally had the opportunity to check it out a few weeks ago. Located in an unassuming strip mall, the place is tiny, spare, and does not have AC. On a sweltering weekend afternoon it could be likened to a circle of hell, if not for the heavenly food coming out of the kitchen. Poor Jack was just sweating BUCKETS but still had a wide welcoming smile and treated us like gold. We got an order of the spinach calzone-like things(forget the name) and a falafel plate that came with hummus, pita, and various pickled things. Pretty standard fare, right? Not in Jack’s hands: his falafels are the BEST I’ve ever had – donut-shaped, which was a little odd, but very light and fluffy! Often I’m disappointed by leaden falafels, but not these guys. Everything else was great too but that falafel, wow. I’m drooling just thinking about them! Now that the weather’s cooling off it might be a better time to visit; if you haven’t already, do so posthaste! BTW, my bf and i were excited to try their«taffy» ice cream after some friends told us about it, but alas, they no longer have that :/ STEPHJUDGEMENT: Super bare-bones digs, but the food can’t be beat!

There’s something special ’bout a mom and pop place. I’m not sure if it’s the way Jack and his wife lovingly serve their delicious food or the way their food is prepared or they way they welcome you into their little place. It’s homey, it’s by no means fancy, however, it will grab you and keep you longing to come again.

I visited Jack’s Bakery after months of having it bookmarked. I stopped in about half an hour before closing to pick up some dinner to go. I typically don’t like to show up to places this close to closing because I know they’ll have to pull out all the materials again to make my dish but the woman who took my order had a warm demeanor and didn’t seem to mind. They have a couple indoor tables and some outside as well but this place definitely seemed like more of a take out restaurant. They have plenty of baklava available too as they are a bakery. I ordered the shish and chicken kabob plate. It totaled to $ 15 which I thought was pretty steep. The meal took about 20 minutes to make and include pieces of beef, chicken, hummus, tons of rice, pita and some vegetables. I thought the pieces of meat could’ve been juicer and could’ve carried more of a marinated flavor. The flavor mostly came from the hummus and garlic sauce. After paying $ 15 for this dish I was hoping for moist and flavorful meats but I thought they were just ok. The pieces were pretty small too. One review I recently read called this place ‘alright good’ and I’d have to agree, that’s exactly what it is. I wouldn’t go out of my way to return when one of my routine kebab cravings kicks in but if in the area I would probably stop in again for take out.

I was waiting for a hair cut next door and decided to grab a pastry(road my bike in the morning and I’m starving). Out of the kitchen comes this larger jolly man with a cool mustache. Real nice guy! I decide to grab a spicy cheese boyreg, and it was just perfect. Price, quality and amount were all on par. A family across from me ordered some rice plates and they were happy. So I’ll probably be back to try the rest of the menu!

YUM! I imagine that this place gets overlooked if you’re a passerby but let me tell you that you need to stop in for a bite! Food is affordable, fresh and plentiful! Customer service is as sweet as can be and you can really feel the love they want you to be able to taste in their food as they serve you. I love supporting mom and pop establishments and i’m so happy I have discovered this place!
