This place is a popular place to go to for Com Phan Gia Dinh, or family style meals. The food comes in huge portions and the prices are very reasonable. For the 2 people meal($ 17.95) you get four items: Canh Chua Ca hay Tom, Ca Kho To hay Thit, Goi Sua Tom Thit and Ga Hai Nam. CANHCHUACAHAYTOM/FISH ORSHRIMPSOURSOUP They give you the option between shrimp or fish. Pick the fish! It is the traditional way this soup is served. The broth itself is slightly sour so it brings out the sweetness of the catfish. The soup is also filled with a lot of fresh vegatables. CAKHOTOHAYTHIT/SALTED BRAISEDFISHORPORK As much as I love pork, this braise is better with the fish. This is really delicious with rice. I recommend taking the rice and putting it in the clay pot so the rice can rub off some of that flavor. Yum! GOISUATOMTHIT/SHRIMP ANDPORKSALAD This is a refreshing salad with a sweet vinegar dressing with thinly sliced shrimp and pork on top. GAHAINAM/HAI NAMSTYLECHICKEN This is a Hai-Nam style prepared chicken. It is boiled and served with a side of ginger fish sauce. It might sound weird, but it works! All of this is served with a side of rice! Notice how this is an extremely balance meal? Legit Vietnamese meals are very well balance where you have rice and then your main dishes as well as a salad and soup with your meal. I really love Vietnamese family styled meals, but this place is a bit inferior in quality and in taste compared to other Vietnamese restaurants with the same dishes.

First time that I tried out this place today. I ordered Com Phan Gia Dinh for two people that comprised of four dishes: hot and sour soup, fish in metal pot, Goi Tom Thit, and Hai Nam chicken, rice NOT included for about $ 18. Everything tasted decent and for the price it was a very good deal. They also offered free tea and soy milk drink with your order. I definitely would come back. Price = Very Good 4⁄5 Food = Decent 3⁄5 Customer Service = Good 3⁄5 Value for Money = Good 3⁄5 Credit Card = Yes Overall Rating = 3⁄5

I’ve frequent this place for over 20 years & always crave the family style dinner. The hot & sour fish soup hits the spot each time. For $ 17, you get a freshly prepared meal for two, can’t beat that. The place has remain unchanged all these years. Still a relaxed atmosphere to have an authentic meal.

This place is absolute bomb. If you’re into cheap homey comfort food then this is the place to go. Main dishes I’d go for would be the fried calamari, fried shrimp, charbroiled lemongrass chicken, and claypot fish. The phở here isn’t much to rave about though; broth lacks a certain something. In summary, go for the family portioned dinner dishes. Plus: FREESOYMILK!

Came here for Chinese NYE dinner with fam bam. Bo luc lac, fried rice, and calamari was surprisingly good. I was disappointed in the the Thai tea, it was not fresh and from the can. With whipped cream and a cherry on top? I’ve never had Thai tea served like that before. Egg rolls were not the best I’ve had. My sister really liked the basil clams. But I still worry about the cleanliness of the restaurant but that’s pretty typical around little Saigon. Oh but FYI most beers are only $ 1.90 and $ 2.50 for imported beers :)

The worst homestyle Vietnamese food I’ve ever tasted. My dad was in town and desperately craved for family style Vietnamese food, and ended up choosing this place. Canh chua(hot and sour Vietnamese soup) Probably the most edible thing served tonight. Had all the ingredients– bean sprouts, tomatoes, pineapple(only like two pieces max), shrimp, and other herbs and veggies. The soup was lukewarm and bland. Thit Kho(braised pork) OMG. The most simple dish to even mess up! Each piece of pork was flavorless and chewy. Lowest of the low quality meat used! Deep fried tilapia Super small, probably has enough meat for one person. Very dry and again, difficult to eat. Never again!!!

One star for the customer service. My mom and I came here for dinner and my mom ordered a noodle dish. When we got her food, it wasn’t what she had expected when she read the description. She caught the attention of the waitress and asked her if this was what she had ordered – just to make sure they didn’t give us the wrong item. The waitress started giving attitude and yelling(in Vietnamese), «Yes it is. You don’t even know what you ordered?» and went on this whole spiel about whatever. But she’s still yelling and causing a scene when my mom just asked a simple question. My mom asked to speak to the manager, because she didn’t like the way the waitress was talking to her. The waitress yells for the manager to come out, and when the manager comes out, the waitress is STILL yelling at my mom… ACROSSTHERESTAURANT. I don’t expect great service from Vietnamese restaurants, because I’ve experienced shitty service growing up in San Jose. But I don’t expect yelling from waitresses either. Food is typical, nothing special.

Here’s the # 1 thing I like about your restaurant: It’s a warm & quiet environment. Dining room is clean. Now for the foods, almost everything is good. My recommendation is those Family Course Meals. That’s their signature dishes. Especially the ca kho and their canh ca chua. Their number 2 most recommended dishes are their chow meins & stir fry dishes. For Recommendation # 3: their Lau Do Bien dish. Com Tam, ok also. They’re a bit better than the Com Tam Thuan Kieu nextdoor to them. Minor crtique is their noodle soups like the mi, the phở, and the bun. They need to work more on the broth. Not so sure, it missing something. Work on the noodle soups. But that’s minor. Overall, I give this place a Perfect 5⁄5 stars. Good job & keep up the good work.
