Évaluation du lieu : 5 Pico Rivera, CA
My mom was diagnosed with dementia two years ago. Social workers would not let her go home without 24⁄7 care. I was living in a 1 br. apt with my husband and it was so small, we barely had enough room for ourselves. She was initially placed in a facility primarily designed for rehab but it was not locked and she liked to leave. Most of the time they were able to stop her before she got too far, but one day, she decided to push someone in a wheelchair and no one saw(or heard) her walk out the door(they had wrist bracelets that sounded an alarm but apparently the staff didn’t catch on for a couple of minutes). By the time they realized she had«escaped», she was about 5 blocks from the facility. They easily caught up with her and«convinced» her to go back. They found a locked facility not far away and I took her there. Oh was she mad at me, but I told her that I had no choice and that as soon as I could find a house we would move her in with me. A couple of months later, she was diagnosed with pneumonia and entered the hospital. After her return, the doctor on staff at the facility wanted to put a feeding tube in her because she wouldn’t eat breakfast. We said NO and had her admitted to the hospital for evaluation of her swallowing ability. That was on a Thursday, by the time they got the test done on Friday(which proved she did NOT need a feeding tube), it was too late to send her back to the facility so she was going to stay in the hospital over the weekend. On Monday, when the hospital social workers called the facility to send her back, they said they didn’t have any beds. After many phone calls by myself, I could not find a locked facility in my area so I told the social workers at the hospital to branch out a few miles south to other communities. That’s when we found Clearview! What a godsend. They were a 4⁄5 star rated facility at the time and their care never changed, despite what the website says now. They provided excellent care and treated my mom with dignity and respect. My mother has always been pretty stubborn but she would acquiesce with the staff at Clearview because they know how to care for people who have Dementia and Alzheimers. I was there at least once a week and never saw any mistreatment of any resident. I walked the entire facility with my mom lots of times when she was still ambulatory. They have a library where the residents can check out books, they have a lot of activities and they have excellent food(it always smelled so good, I was tempted to eat my mom’s food myself). The staff is wonderful and I wish she could have stayed. Unfortunately, Clearview is not able to care for their residents once they begin to physically deteriorate and it is hard to take your parent to another facility that compares to the treatment they receive at Clearview. I told my son, if he ever needs to place me in a facility because of dementia or alzheimers’, to put me in Clearview.
