The barbeque at this Jim N Nicks is good. We often stop here while traveling and have tried the ribs, chicken, bbq and the salad. When we stop, it is often on a Sunday and there is often a crowd with family groups going out to lunch after church. We have eaten at a Jim N Nicks in various locations many times and the food is always good. The one is Gardendale, AL is a friendly place but the servers often seem rushed. Today we sat at the bar and it was actually a better experience. Sean was behind the bar and made sure everything we out promptly, iced tea glasses were filled, and that there were no problems with the food. We both had BBQ pork sandwich on a whole wheat bun. It was good and service was quick. The french fries were good. One piece of advice: order the fries without the salt and seasoning. They are usually very salty, too salty for my taste preference and I always remember after eating the first one. Salads are very good, ribs are usually very good(especially the baby back ribs). For anyone concerned about calories, ask them to hold the BBQ sauce and add it yourself if that is your preference. A little bit goes a long way. The restaurant is clean, menu is plentiful and filled with items one would expect from a quality Southern BBQ restaurant.

I visited Jim N Nicks a couple of months age and was very disappointed with the slow service in the drive through. I let the management know how I felt and they bent over backward to correct things. I went to JNN this past Thursday, June 2 and the experience was great. The speed of service was reasonable for a barbecue drive through. The staff was friendly and helpful. And the quality of the food was excellent. Thank you Jim N Nick!

We were traveling through from NOLA to Ky. We had very little sleep and we’re getting hangry. Deciding what to eat while on the road can be a challenge. I saw a sign for BBQ and I was sold. It turned out to be a good choice. I paid no attention to any attitude that may(or may not) have been coming from the hostess. My goal was to get a table and food. Our server was a sweet, soft spoken co-ed who knew the menu and helped us make good choices. First, the brewed iced tea was good. We ordered the pork plate between the two of us because we didn’t want leftovers. The pork was tasty. I had asked for a side of the white sauce which was not like any other sauce I had ever had. It was a mayonnaise based sauce, that was spicy, peppery and had a hint of pickle juice. I ate my pork with it. So tasty. The mac-n-cheese was better than I had expected. It was worth ordering. The fries were real potatoes. And then there was this sweet, cheesy, mini, muffin roll thing. I wanted to shove like 5 in my mouth and eat them chipmunk style. So now, we have full bellies and are ready for the rest of the drive.

Walked in and the female hostess was rude and had no people skills at all. Also looked pissed off at the world. People like that should be washing dishes or fired. The food was amazing and the service was great. I will be back for sure just hope they find a new host.

We have eaten at many of the Jim and Nick’s location but this was the first time to Gardendale. I ordered the smoke turkey which was very good except the white BBQ sauce I ordered with it was almost too hot to enjoy the turkey. Our waiter never warned or mentioned anything about how hot the white sauce was. As a result it ruined the turkey. So if you order the turkey do not get the white sauce. If you want turkey keep driving north to Decatur and eat at Big Bob Gibsons the home of the original AL white sauce. Had to ask waiter for drink refills.

Stopped here when staying overnight at a motel. Liked the reviews on Unilocal and got a good recommendation from the motel desk clerk. The place was packed, always a good sign. Our waiter, Luke I think, was beyond wonderful and made us feel very welcome. Husband had the half rack of ribs which were tender and flavorful. Needed no additional sauce. I had the Greek salad with smoked chicken. The chicken was to die for!!! I couldn’t bring myself to put dressing on the chicken. Cheese biscuits were different from Red Lobster in that they were cornbread based I think. A great BBQ dinner for both of us. Oh, Luke even brought us a sample of the smoked turkey… said it was his favorite

Overall good place, friendly staff, bar is always not full which I like. Lots of Man-buns on the waiters which makes me think of hipsters, And bicyclists… I hate bicyclist. With there speedos and stupid helmets, and wanting to drive on the road like cars. Good place for dinner though

Food was alright, drinks were good, service, not so good. Everyone that works here seems to be preoccupied. It’s kind of annoying. By the time we finally got cheese dip, it wasn’t that warm and already started hardening up making it hard to eat. Ordered biscuits and got them after our food. Not sure I would rate this particular Jim N Nicks, but I don’t think I’ll be back.

What a very disappointing experience at this particular Jim N Nicks. It was a shame as we love their restaurant typically. Here is how our experience went… As we walked in at about 9 pm(they are open until 10 pm), we were seated in what felt like a reluctant fashion. It was quite a few minutes before a server visited our table as there seemed to be a debate about who wanted what we supposed was one of the last tables of the night. Once we ordered two beers it took over 5 minutes to get them even though the place was nearly empty yet they had a lot of staff still there. We then ordered nachos and five wings. It took about 30 minutes to get these items. The nachos were okay but the wings were horrendous! They are smoked and then supposedly flash fried. Apparently one of the cooks forgot about them in the fryer as they were way over done. We aren’t complainers so we just let it go. Not to mention, we were on a road trip and certainly didn’t want to wait 30 minutes for five more wings. As if the food and drink issues weren’t enough, the staff was unprofessional in many other ways. They swept all around us with no regard for the fact we were eating. One server that was wiping down tables stayed on his phone talking loudly the whole time to include the table adjacent to us. After we ordered a second round of drinks, our server came back to our table area sweeping rather than with our drinks. We had to remind/ask her for our drinks at that point. Her name was Jordan and our table was 42⁄1 on Sept. 4th, 2015. All of this and $ 48 later we left! I hope these issues are at least limited to this location. We just don’t know that we could risk another visit though.

Good size portions. Great tasting ribs. Mac & Cheese was off the charts! Be prepared to spend a buck or two. But worth it.

While traveling from Birmingham to Decatur, I took the Gardendale exit in hopes for grabbing a late lunch. I found this Jim & Nicks so popped in. Grabbed a great local Brewery Brew and a BBQ sandwich plate. The Pulled Pork BBQ is some of the best I’ve had! My Brew was ice cold and excellent. I got their fries as a side and had so many I couldn’t eat them all. The service was very friendly and attentive. I very much enjoyed my visit and highly recommend them for anyone in the area.

Ignore any bad ratings and just come here. Great ribs, very good service and nice atmosphere. I make my own ribs and these were very good! Sauces are OK, but the good news is you really don’t need them. Collard greens were good to good+, Mac n’ cheese was great, potato salad was good(texture was a bit mashed), not great, and the pecan pie was… very good — 8 out of 10.

Excellent food! I had turkey, the boyfriend had brisket, ribs, & pulled pork. Everything was amazing & the service was great too! We were seated instantly, drinks arrived, we ordered, received cheese biscuits, seconds later, our food appeared. Ordered deserts to go.

The good qualities about a chain restaurant are in this location. The décor, menu, and service are what you expect. While our server was new, she did a good job. The manager was present and made rounds at the tables to ensure satisfaction with service and food. The food was standard and tasted like Jim N Nick’s, which is important with chain restaurants. The wait was a bit longer than normal since the place wasn’t overly crowded. Unfortunately, the fries were lukewarm and my potato wasn’t overly hot. That was a bit disappointing. Otherwise a decent experience.

I don’t get to go to Jim’n Nick’s often but when I do they never disappoint. Staff is always tentative and knowledgeable. The salad was almost too pretty to eat and the brisket chilly was amazing and the pulled pork was great as always.

Service and food was slow. On top of that I paid 5 bucks for a 12 ounce good people ipa that came in a beat up beer can and the server literally dumped it in the glass. Like all foam, so my boyfriend said that’s not how you pour a beer and he laughed and said yeah tilt the glass. And I paid 5 bucks for a flat busted 12 ounce beer. Left not happy and felt ripped off.

Putting cheese into a muffin style biscuit?!? You had me at cheese. Have been to a few other Jim n nicks on my Alabama tour. The service never disappoints, always on point. I had ordered the ‘Pig on a Bun’ which supposedly is their go to sandwich(pulled pork sandwich), now expecting to be filled with excitement and joy I was halted abruptly by the dryness of the pork. wah! I added their house made BBQ sauce which helped but wasn’t enough. It was like trying to water a desert expecting grass to grow. Maybe this was just a bad batch I’d like to think but who knows. Was not too satisfied. I give the 3 stars purely based on the service. Unsure if I’ll give them another shot since there are so many other good BBQ places in Alabama.
