Food receives a 4 star rating, don’t get me wrong. Owners are like me and have 2 wonderful children at the same school. But the only bad part is their hours, I want good food, smiles when I walk in, to only find them closed the last three times I tried the doors were closed and wasn’t able to get my fix. I will give it a few more tries before giving up completely.

Found out about this place on Unilocal last year and loved the food, so we made a point to come back before ending our vacation. The service and food were great. We will definitely be coming back the next time we go to Tahoe.

I love this place!!! My family and I drive out to the Ranchos all the time for their wonderful food! The Burning Man burger is by far my favorite! Awesome choices for kids and very affordable for my family of five. I love small businesses like this!

We stopped by based on reviews for a burger. Walked in and all we could smell was cigarette smoke. Seriously? We turned around without a word and left.

My family and I stopped here on our way home from Bodie. We chose it because of it’s great Unilocal reviews and we were not disappointed! The service is wonderful. Friendly and helpful, and patient! The chef was accommodating and friendly as well. We had the fried pickles appetizer, and they were yummy! Not your typical fried pickles — they use spears instead of chips. The French Toast special was delicious, and the All American and Suzy BBQ Burgers were pretty much perfect. We’re definitely making this a regular stop on our Bodie treks!

Although atmosphere and staff were very friendly we found the food to be lacking. For starters the garlic fries weren’t what we expected. Honestly we’ve had better at home. All the garlic sat at the bottom of the container. the cheese steak was mostly bread. The cole slaw was a joke. With just cabbage drowned in mayonnaise and that’s it. The side salad was almost decent with romain tomato and carrot. If the cole slaw had the efforts of the salad it would have almost been worth the 35 $. The fish was moist but over battered and greasy. And the kids spaghetti came with penne not spaghetti. We were hungry enough to eat it but won’t be returning for seconds:/I

Dang good food. I ordered the turkey g-ville and boy was it delicious. The fries were nice and crispy, and soft and sudsy on the inside. Some of the best fries I’ve had. Every member of the family enjoyed their meal and we can’t wait to be back! This charming family owned restaurant knows what they are doing!

Amazing!!! Every bite was truly enjoyable. The chef is a master, all parts of our meal was handmade. We started with garlic fries… crispy. covered in just the right amount of seasoning and garlic and cooked to a perfect crispness. Then we had two types of hot wings, hand battered… again perfect crispy with meaty inside, and the sauce was perfect… not to hot, but with a sweetness. The salad came with authentic homemade buttermilk ranch dressing. It was homemade pasta night… made to order fresh pasta in a mushroom steak cream sauce… Every bite was outstanding. This place is a hidden gem, worth the drive!!! Should be on tv

Came here to grab some breakfast. It was delicious. I had a healthy omelet and a side of pancakes. Got to say the food was really fresh and professional cooking. I will definitely come back to this restaurant.

We finally tried this place that is hidden away in the Ranchos. We came in for breakfast and I was so excited to see Cap’n Crunch French Toast on the menu, my husband and I both ordered it and got a side of biscuits and gravy to share. The biscuits and gravy were the best we’ve had in the area, the French Toast was really good, and the place is pretty kid friendly with lots of games and activity books. However, because I believe it shares a space with the bar next door it smelled like stale cigarette smoke. It was pervasive and so gross. They were trying to air it out with the front door wide open but I don’t think there is anything that could get rid of it short of gutting both businesses… or moving. I suggest moving, mainly for my convenience — but also I think it would do well in town.

This morning we decided to walk to the post office and have breakfast right here in the Ranchos, and The Grill Next Door was too good to pass up. It delivered. As usual, my wife and I shared our breakfasts, and one of the meals we ordered was a special. It was a scramble that included a lot of meat(sausage and bacon), cheese, and vegetables. We subbed out the potatoes for sliced tomatoes, and skipped the toast. We then ordered two pancakes, and they arrived with butter on the side and syrup. We didn’t arrive until around 10 and the word is getting out, as there were only two vacant tables. This was the most crowded I’d ever seen the place, and I think this is a good thing. Again, we enjoyed another great breakfast at The Grill Next Door.

Wow! We were on vacation and looked up places to eat around our hotel. The grill next door came up and we liked the reviews. And we had a great time. Service was good, and the food was even better. The are serving quality food at good prices. Everything tasted homemade! If I’m ever in Gardnerville, I will be back. Lucky locals to have such an amazing restaurant.

We go to The Grill almost weekly now. Nothing can compare! Dan has ruined burgers for me, I try to have burgers at other restaurants and they are lack luster in comparison, I’m always disappointed. Dan you are the man when it comes to a perfect burger!

Found this restaurant on Unilocal.Yes!!! THANKYOU Unilocal& UnilocalERS! My boyfriends family always has a big Thanksgiving dinner with lots of friends and family. Every year we head up to Gardnerville where sister, brother and Dad live. Can you believe they have NEVER heard of THEGRILLNEXTDOOR? After reading the reviews I thought how could they NOT hear about this place? Let me tell you, the chef from San Fran who wrote made me a believer. I will tell you my experience. So we head over to «The Ranchos» which initially sounded kinda swanky to me. As we get deeper into the neighborhood it gets less and less fancy. Bordering on junky. Ok. It’s an older community and there is nothing wrong with that. We pull into what looks to be a tiny shopping center nothing too wonderful. We pull in get out walk into a small restaurant maybe 10 tables the place was packed. This day 3 adult tables to tip tables very under control. Nice gal tatted up greets us orders beverages with us deliver them promptly. We place our order after she gives me a recommendation for the burger I chose and we wait. And we wait some more. We figure they must have been busy if all these people came in right before us so we’re patient. Finally our food shows up looks pretty damned good. Dad orders the fish and chips and instead of fries takes onion rings. Boyfriend orders the G-ville burger. I order the burger with jalapenos, bacon and crunchy cheese; D’Animal. AMAZING!!! The little extra wait was immediately forgotten. Probably one of the BEST burgers I have had. Fries were tasty. The onion rings were GREAT. Everything freshly battered and made to order. Dan knows what he’s doing behind the grill. Will go back and likely some old locals will be coming in to experience this place. I think there are a few things that would make this place better. 1. Fountain machines –better profits too but they may just not the space. 2. Bigger location over by Raley’s *so many people would come… it would blow up. Dan may not be duplicated and the food is amazing so only grow if it can be replicated. So Good! 3. Less smokey location — the bar next door smoke is distracting

The food here is fabulous. Any of the specials are great. And the tomato basil is out of the world. soooo good. I don’t eat red meat but those burgers sure do temp me. They come in turkey burger too. All in all this place is fabulous!

If I was reviewing only the food The Grill Next Door would get 5⁄5 stars no question! Having heard news about this place winning the local Carson Valley burger wars the wife and I decided to give this place a try. I had the Danimal burger and cole slaw, wife had the Mushroom Swiss burger with fries, and the kids each had a Cheeseburger and fries. We also ordered the Fried Pickles appetizer as well as the Parmesan Zucchini Sticks. The Danimal is easily the best burger I have ever had in Northern Nevada and among the best burgers I have had in my entire life. The thick beef patty was perfectly cooked to medium rare, the jalapenos were fresh and were grilled on the flat top which I thought was a nice touch, grilled onions were epic, perfectly cooked good quality bacon, and it had just the right amount of sauce on a fluffy warm bun. INCREDIBLE. I have no doubts as to why this sandwich won the burger wars. Cole slaw was also amongst the best I have eaten. I am a firm believer that food should taste like what it is. I love homemade slaw but will never buy storebought and generally steer clear of restaurants as well. It tends to be soggy limp cabbage drenched in soupy sweet dressing. Yuck! This slaw is prepared fresh to order. Fresh shredded cabbage that has not been sitting in dressing for god knows how long. Crispy, crunchy, cabbagey goodness tossed in dressing that is not overly sweet. DIVINE. After remarking to the waitress how jaw droppingly delicious it was she informed me that all of the dressings and sauces are made fresh in house! This includes the ranch, marinara, as well as many others. The fried pickles were as good as any I had, and are shaped like zucchini sticks instead of the usual chips. The homemade ranch was also fabulous. My only complaint was the small portion. This did not feel like a five dollar appetizer. They were comparable to any I have had but definitely nothing to write home about. The zucchini sticks on the other hand were fan-flipping-tastic! Way above average, Fresh zucchini light breaded and sprinkled with parmesan cheese. Crispy, not greasey, and were perfectly accompanied by the house ranch and homemade marinara. Again we were slightly disappointed by the portion size for six bucks but they were incredibly delicious. The wife enjoyed her burger but wished it had more mushrooms. My family enjoyed the fries but they were definitely not the shining stars here. Tasty but average. For anyone ordering the kids burger it is HUGE. We should have split it amongst our two kiddos for neither could finish it. Same incredible patty cooked to perfection on high quality buns. We ordered them plain as the kids tend not to like condiments. I had an Iced Tea to drink which was perfect. Good tea served in a huge mug with a slice of lemon. My wife had a Diet Coke which be warned is sold by the can and does not include refills although our waitress did end up bringing my wife one for free on account of the longer than usual wait. Where they lost the star: This place is TINY. Crammed in to a tiny shopping center in the Ranchos this place could easily be missed. The interior is cute with saracastic signs posted on the walls(although my OCD went a little nuts at the crooked wall sconce), but very cramped. The couple across from us asked to move tables because every time someone behind them got up they got chair bashed. The wait was a little long but I can partly blame that on the party of six that ordered before us. The waitress was courteous and apologized for the long wait as well as bringing my wife a free refill. No refills on soda. I understand serving canned beverages. As I said this place is tiny and I would not expect them to have a Co2 fountain system. But $ 2+ for one can of pop is a little steep. All in all a great burger experience. We ended up spending about $ 50 for two adults, two kids, two appetizers, and two drinks with tip. Food was outstanding and service was friendly. I definitely hope to eat here again very soon. An unlikely gem in the Ranchos. (on a side not, some have complained about the smell of cigarette smoke. The place shares a wall with the bar next door and there was a faint odor of cigarettes. However my 9mo pregnant wife said it wasn’t bad and did not bother her at all. The waitress also informed me that they serve said bar so if you are in for a drink order yourself some tasty grub. You will not be sorry)
