Loved this small restaurant tucked inside a library. The staff was very attentive and extremely friendly. The food was reasonably priced with huge portions hubby ordered the hit the spot and it was alot of food for $ 10. The breakfast tacos $ 2 were fully loaded and tortillas were yummy and fluffy reminded me of my mom’s authentic mexican tacos. Hubby asked me to bookmark this spot for our next trip to Austin.

I just flew in for the day, I really enjoyed the small town atmosphere. Jessie the owner is awesome. But I saw the pictures of the chicken fried steak. And the waitress recommended it also. So, I did! Hand done and crispy. Wow, what a great breakfast. Yes, chicken fried steak for breakfast. How can you start your day any other way! It was really good, I will be recommending this little hole in wall location to people I fly. Great stuff.

I consider myself a Chicken Fried Steak Connoisseur and I have to admit that today we had one of the best Chicken Fried Steaks I have had in years … It was fresh, tender and had a perfect crunchy flavorful batter! The fried okra was the best I have ever had and my brother had amazing Migas! We will make this place a regular spot and we live far away! Also the staff was so kind you felt like you were at someone’s house for dinner! Definitely worth driving a long distance for some damn good texas country cooking

Straight homestyle country cooking! Great diner /café off 71W that’s inside a quaint library. Came in on a Saturday morning and it was bustling! Fast and great service. Food portions are huge at great prices! Chicken fried steak as big as your head! Very simple décor almost like grandmas house. Love the metal siding they used for the ceiling. Nice parking lot to the side. If you want breakfast enough to keep you full until dinner time… this is the place!

Hit The Spot Is Awesome! I’m lucky enough to live in Garfield so this place is our family’s go to when Momma doesn’t feel like cooking. Their specials are always delicious. I’m also a self proclaimed«Chicken Fried Steak Expert» and the one at Hit The Spot is Da Bomb! Breakfast is always yummy too. Taking a road trip to Garfield is definitely worth your time!

We had an appointment down this way, and Unilocal led us to this awesome little place tucked nicely in a library!(so cool!) Unilocalers spoke so highly, so we had high expectations and… WOW. I mean, WOW. At first I was hesitant because it was totally empty when we walked in. Lovely server told us we had made it just before the rush.(we’ll see, we thought!) Based on recommendations we ordered chicken fried chicken with mac & cheese and mash, bacon burger with onion rings, and since they serve breakfast all day(!!!) AND had tacos with HASHBROWNS!!! We had to order one to try it. P said the tea was tasty, I stuck to water. Food was quick and came out piping hot. First, we tried the taco. The tortillas… Geez, the tortillas. Maybe the best tortillas I’ve ever had. House made… just… delicious. Taco was better than Dan’s.(won’t compare to Café Java because the bacon is added differently) So amazing. CFC was so tender… tender and juicy, huge portions, maybe best CFC we have ever had. Mashed potatoes delicious, Mac & Cheese also some of the best we’ve ever had. Bacon burger Peter said was really, really good. He ordered medium and thought it might be SLIGHTLY too medium… but he will eat some bloody, bloody beef so this was really nothing to him. He did say he might ask med-well next time. I did not try it because although I love a med to med-rare steak, I’m weird with any kind of pink ground beef.(I saw a review where someone thinks the meat may have gotten them sick — despite the cook, again just a bit off, P was not sick whatsoever.) Onion rings were delicious and actually had flavor. We ordered 10 tortillas to go — you don’t understand how delicious these tortillas are. Wish we would have asked for them to be wrapped as 5&5 because they were so fresh that they stuck together a bit. Everything we ordered was under $ 30 before tip … I cannot believe that the food is this good, portions this big, and prices this cheap. All of the staff was so kind. I asked a nice girl who owned the place and she pointed to a gentleman who had walked in mid meal. He was having a salad and I …(I don’t know why) liked the fact that he pointed out a slight issue with the way his onion was cut — he sure is committed, so it seems, to presenting a perfect plate. We got up and started to walk out and the gentleman owner wished us well. We told him it was delicious; a really lovely place. He asked where we came from(north north Austin), he said wow, long drive, and we said yes but we will be back — many many times. And, fwiw, as we walked down the steps, 2 – 3 cars pulled up and people started filing in, I guess for their nightly rush. Thank you Unilocalers, for showing us this place.

Long wait for food that is mediocre at best. The best thing about this place is the wait staff who were trying to meet the needs of the busy restaurant.

Had a layover in AUS so decided to try this place as it had some good reviews. The first thing you notice is that you have to walk through an old library to get into the restaurant. Small place but that normally means better. Staff very freindly. We asked for recommendations and were told with confidence that they are know for having THEBESTBURGERSINTEXAS! I was going to get the chicken fried chicken but after hearing this HUGE claim I figured we have to try these burgers. I ordered the mushroom n Swiss med-rare, with their famous onion rings. Came out fairly quick. After digging into the meal it quickly became apparent that although good, was certainly not the best burger in TX, let alone in the austin area. The rings were also pretty good. Later that night I got really sick. Felt very nauseous and feverish. Signs of food poisoning. For me, this is very unusual as I am a very adventurous eater. However my colleague did not get sick and he had the same meal, except his was well-done. So am I 100% certain that their food made me sick, no, but it was the only meal I ate that day so I’m only putting 2 and 2 together. Overall not a bad place. Just watch out for that undercooked meat.

This place is awesome! As others have said, it’s a little hidden in the Garfield library… don’t sneeze or you’ll miss it! The waiters and waitresses are super sweet and polite. They make great conversation, take good care of you and seem to have pride in the little café. The food is delicious too! While I was pregnant, I couldn’t get enough of their burgers and fries. Very juicy and the burger buns are so tasty! The chicken fried steak was a big hit with my husband. Fresh chips and salsa(red has great flavor, but if you like heat ask for the green salsa!) and tasty sides… we tried the chicken fried corn out of curiosity and it was good! We also had the strawberry crepes for dessert. It was delicious! An appetizer, two entrées with drinks and dessert came out to $ 30. Not bad!

I’m so excited to have found this place. And of course I found it through yours truly Unilocal! Living in Del Valle, TX is not easy when you are hungry but don’t want to cook and would rather eat out. Deciding on whether you are going to drive into Austin or starve is not an easy decision. So you can imagine how happy to have found a great diner that is so close to my home and I don’t have to deal with Austin traffic and can take the backroads and be there in 5 minutes tops. The food is delicious but I’ve only had the chicken fried steak but cannot wait to try out the rest of the menu. The owner recommended the desert which was strawberry crepes and it was even better than I imagined. The service was really fast and super friendly. This may just be our new kitchen away from our kitchen! Thanks Unilocal

All the great reviews of this place are true! I have passed by the Garfield Library hundreds of times and have always wondered why there were so many library patrons in Garfield. Now I know the secret… you walk through the library to get to the diner. Service was excellent. Our waiter explained the specials of the days, the special steaks they had in the back and what her favorites were. She explained that they are known for«everything fried.» So I ate a chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and baby carrots. All were very good and well prepared. The Gravy was great. I had a piece of pecan pie for desert. It was also homemade and was tasty. My girlfriend had hand battered onion rings with her meal. They were lightly breaded and the chipotle ranch dressing that came with them was good. Next time I will be back for breakfast, which is what they are really known for.

Have driven past the Library in Garfield every time we go to the airport, VA, anything in Austin and noticed there are always cars, today we stopped and had a wonderful breakfast. everything is made from scratch and you can tell! Awesome biscuits and gravy and hubby had the early bird special which are 2 eggs, toast, and bacon with an addition of homemade hash browns. Service was wonderful and she asked if it was our first visit and explained about specials and new extended hours. for a hot cup of coffee and homemade goodness, really doesn’t get much better.

SUPER good! We live close by and kept saying we needed to give it a try but just stopped in tonight for the first time. Now we’re saying why did we wait so long? It was quaint, cozy, and clean. Our serve Mike walked us through the menu since it was our first visit. I had the carne guisada plate with HOMEMADE tortillas and HOMEMADE green and red salsa. It was DELICIOUS! Chicken fried steak, mac & cheese, and the burger were also amazing. I asked my man if his food was good but he didn’t come up for air enough to answer me. I wanted to try my son’s burger but he finished it off before I got the chance. I’ve never seen those 2 inhale food like that before. Dinner for 3 including a generous tip for ~$ 40 was a great deal for the quality and amount of food we received. The people were friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back.

This is the kind of place all pinky raising, swirling and sniffing restaurants need to replicate as far as service and quality of food. The prices are super fair and food is made and served with heart and a smile. I love how they really care that you come and dine here and I wish I lived in the area to become a regular(the regulars add to the visit)…I will always remember this as a great dining experience. Had breakfast and was hungry, so Chicken Fried Steak and eggs with grits is was! Tender, juicy and crispy, cooked to perfection, eggs done right and creamy and perfect grits. Make a stop and it’s not that far from the Austin airport so make it a point to visit.

Good ol’ home cooked food is what you’ll get here! You will not leave hungry, as the portions are very generous. I could have eaten a huge bowl of the Mac & Cheese, it was delicious. The chicken fried steak was tender enough that I could cut it with a fork. The service was great too, you won’t be disappointed dining here!

Wow. What the hell. Best Migas of my life in the middle of nowhere between Houston and Austin(or at least, the middle of nowhere to me). We were starving and it was the only place in the area. As fate would have it, it’s also one of the best breakfast places I’ve ever eaten at. It’s family owned and on the small side, but it was delicious. The staff were super easygoing and friendly. This is my new pit stop between Houston and Austin =]
