I like my froyo from a machine that oozes yummy goodness slowly, thus making me wait in heavenly anticipation to devour it mercilessly… not from a weird frozen block. It’s a cute little froyo shop with a lovely staff, but the concept is very different from other froyo shacks. I like to pick and choose my flavors and toppings. Not a big fan of ordering a la Subway-style. Then again, I only came here back in April of this year, so perhaps they’ve changed… I may have to go back just to check it out again(and perhaps update this review). But since it wasn’t a memorable experience, I haven’t been back since. I’m strictly speaking on my visit in April. The quality is decent, and the price is a bit higher than Yogurtland(which is just a mile away from here). It’s nice that it was the first froyo joint in the ‘hood, but now with others opening nearby(Yogurtville, Yogurtland and soon Cup of Yogurt), unless it brings down it’s prices… I may not frequent this place as often.

This froyo place is unlike any others I’ve been to, and I’ve been to plenty of them. It’s not a self serve joint, and while they do have two rotating«conventional» soft-serve options, the real magic is with their core product. This is how it works: First, you choose your size from three possibles(multiple size cups, a big plus). Then, you choose your«base» yogurt type from several possibles, including a «no-no»(non-fat, no sugar added, a HUGE plus) that comes in the form factor of a frozen«puck». Next, it’s your flavor, most of which are fresh fruit offerings, but there are others such as coffee. Using an interesting device consisting of a plastic or porcelain«cone» and a metal auger, the server takes the yogurt«puck» and your flavor component(s), and puts them in the machine. Out comes a soft serve consistency with your flavorings blended in completely. Finally, you can add toppings, with most of the healthier leaning favorites represented. Very, very cool! I selected banana, and though they were a bit green, it was pretty good. My fellow diners chose coffee and key lime pie, respectively, and while the key lime pie was very good, the coffee was REALLY good. So, but for a few things, this might be a 5 star review. First of all, the price. They are extremely proud of their product(i.e. it’s quite costly), and you don’t get to control how much you get(aside from the designated sizes). I’d like to see more flavor choices, in addition to the predominantly fruit based concoctions. Finally, something that I usually don’t comment on, because, frankly, it’s not usually a big issue with me, but the long, cloth covered bench that’s the bulk of their seating was EXTREMELY soiled; while there were no «chunks», it was very dirty. Surprising, since the rest of the place looked OK from a cleanliness standpoint. In conclusion, I’m going with 4.5 stars, but the«no-no» yogurt and unique concept are oh-so-close to pushing it to 5.

I’m glad that the fro-yo trend has made it closer to our house. usually we have to drive far to get some… thats the only plus though The original/plain flavor is ok. not as tart, tangy, and addicting as pinkberry… not too bad either. My main complaint is that they are so shiesty on the ingredients. I ordered kiwi, strawberrry, and almonds. They were painfully slow putting each ingredient on the yogurt… as if they were counting each piece of fruit that landed on there. :) Will definitely go again bc of location convenience but hopefully after opening for a longer time. they quit being greedy w/their ingredients ;)

Christopher L.‘s review really hit the nail on the head. Solid 3.5 stars for Yogen Fruz, mostly because of the high cost to portion ratio and average yogurt flavor. I was shopping for a pair of shoes in the heat at Firewheel when I literally wandered into this place. They’ve haven’t been open for terribly long, but I was excited to discover a new yogurt place that wasn’t 809613 miles from my crib in Rockwall(reppin the 972, y’all). Their space is small, but nicely decorated, with tall stool type chairs at a bar next to the window and other seats/tables lining the wall. When I said that I’d never been to this franchise, they immediately offered me a sample, props for good service. I chose a small cup of their tart yogurt with mochi and strawberries and I cringed as I handed nearly $ 5 over to the girl at the register. Maybe I just need to wean myself off of the huge bucket sizes at I Heart Yogurt and other self serve locations, but this cup was tiiiiiny. The strawberries tasted pretty fresh and the mochi was really quite good, chewy and delicious. HOWEVER, the«tart» was basically vanilla with very little resemblance to the original flavor/Italian/whatever you want to call it that they offer at similar establishments. It tasted pretty good, but it didn’t leave me satisfied like my other yogurt lovers do. Plus, I asked for some water before I left and got a minuscule cup that was totally lukewarm. Blech blech blech. Water fountains, people. They rock. In summary, Yogen Fruz may be one of the longest running frozen yogurt chains, but with their high prices and so so flavors, they haven’t truly won me over yet. If you’re outside in the boiling heat at Firewheel and you’re looking for a quick froyo fix, stop by and support the staff. Their sunshiny attitude bumped this from«meh» to «hmm, nice» for me. Just be sure to bring your own water.

I really mean a 3.5 with this. It’s not bad by any means, but compared to other yogurt places I’ve been to, and factoring in value, Yogen Fruz is really just. decently good. I enjoyed my froyo with fresh fruit on top. But I believe I got somethin around 8oz for around $ 4.00, and then the added cost of the fruits on top came out to something like $ 5.50? To put this in perspective, at some of the froyo joints that let you do price-by-the-ounce, you can get this much for around 2 bucks cheaper, and they offer flavored froyo and you self-serve your toppings(as many as you want, in the amount you want) included in that price. But enough about price. Their froyo was good: just the right amount of tang and sweet, and the fruit was fresh(though, it looks as if they do use bagged, frozen fruits for their blended smoothies). On that subject, I tried the blended smoothies my friends got, and I would caution you to be none too wild on the fruits you choose to flavor with. That kiwi can really take over the palette!
