We stayed for a night in the fall and it was lovely. Very comfortable, kind innkeeper, clean and beautiful house. Has a feeling of history and authenticity. Very historic past. Doesn’t have the cheesy feel of many B&Bs. Friendly ghost, too!

Hi, I recently drove by the Bird and Bottle and realized it had been opened again and was running there Bed and Breakfast and had a wonderful experience and was delightfully cooked Breakfast by Julie which was her Belgium Waffles and fresh Straw Berries and Fresh ground coffee which she served with a cheerful smile and was kind enough to bring the Morning paper it was a wonderful stay. WE were also told the Weddings were being held there again and other fine parties and functions and soon they will be working on opening up there Restaurant again although not quite the style menu it once was more of casual dining and just a fun down home Tavern .I am so looking forward to this and my Husband and his work Buddies were delighted to here about it. The Bar and Inn is so warm and comfortable simply have not enjoyed myself as much and have been so relaxed in a while. Julie the Innkeeper was Sweet, Funny and very professional cant wait to go back again.

[Just an FYI– Bird & Bottle is currently CLOSED] After Hurricane Irene this past October B&B was basically forced to close b/c of extensive damage to the wine cellar and the large event tent outside. I’m sure these were just two of many issues, as the building is very old to begin with and it’s not exactly the most popular place due to its steep prices. This is/was the sort of establishment you might go to for a nice anniversary dinner or maybe to impress a date(as long as they were into older décor and rustic charm of an old farm/mill turned into bed and breakfast and restaurant.) As the years went on, I found that this place has gone downhill somewhat. Back in 2008, 2009 it had more clientele, a better chef and overall had a different atmosphere and attitude. In the past few years with the hiring of a newer and younger chef, the food just hasn’t been the same. Things lack flavor, are not cooked properly and the waitstaff is just not knowledgeable. For heafty prices of meals and drinks, these are not traits that can be spared as they most definitely go noticed and affect the patrons likelihood of returning. It was never a crazy, packed place but brunches and dinners often had a reasonable turn out on some evenings; and weddings of course were a main focus for weekends. It’s a shame that this place had gone under but I don’t think the manager really knew how to run a restaurant and b&b efficiently, while also lacked making smart staffing choices. She was kind and pretty friendly, but these are only two of many qualities needed in this busiess. Hopefully it will come back to life soon and be better equipped to handle various aspects in the food and event world, as well as maybe lower prices and do more marketing to spread its name around and get more people interested in trying it out.

Went for Sunday Brunch and really enjoyed it. The food was excellent; the Scottish Eggs(a version of Eggs Benedict but with salmon and served on hash brown-like patties), was great. The French Toast is done with a pecan raisin bread with syrup served warm in a little creamer. The chocolate sauce in the crêpe with vanilla ice cream was delightful. Very, very nicely done. The service was correct, and Elaine the proprietor is a wonderful, engaging hostess. The inn itself, a historical treasure in superb condition is an authentic treat for history lovers! At $ 32 prix fixe, there is NO complaint re: value; the only reason I gave it 4 stars not 5, is because I think the menu could have more interesting, country inspired choices for a Sunday Brunch. But I’d go back again again just the same…

We had our wedding at the Bird and Bottle and could not have been happier with all aspects of the occasion. The service was superb, and not just to us but to all our guests, and the food was delicious and beautifully prepared. Elaine, the owner, is wonderful and very dedicated to making each meal and event special at her establishment.(we’ve also had brunch there in the past which is not to be missed). You will not be disappointed by the food, warmth, and charming atmosphere at this lovely and historic site. Thank you for a truly fantastic event!

Food was great. Service could have been better. We did go on New Years eve but we also went early(7pm). Since we had 6 people the tip was automatically included at 20%. I always wonder if that leads to different service. In summary — food = good, server = needs improvement

My husband took me here as a surprise treat, and we were both pleasantly surprised by the food and service. We went with the following on the prix fixe menu: *Appetizers — butternut squash soup(didn’t kick us over with flavor, but it was good) and escargot(the puff pastry bowl was light and flaky, and the escargot was perfectly cooked and seasoned in a shitake mushroom brown sauce) *Entrees — Zarzuela soup(I was delighted by the heaps of mussels, clams, scallops, and lobster, but was disappointed that the broth was overpowered by cilantro) and NY strip steak(well seasoned, but the mashed butternut squash underneath was underwhelming) *Dessert — apple pie(each pie is fried to order and served with cinnamon ice-cream — delicious!) and chocolate torte(very moist, very yummy) Overall, we were very happy with our food. The owner of the inn was unbelievably sweet and added to the charm of the inn. On our way out, we saw a sign advertising prix fixe meals on Thursdays for $ 17.61(a third of their usual weekend menu price). We’re definitely going to make another trip to check that out.

…a really special place, the top choice for our anniversary(as well) every year for the past 3 years. The chef always puts his talent into the menu and ends up putting wonderful meals together. Bar-none the best Duck Confit I’ve ever had, but we make sure to go early because it always runs out. Truthfully, I should be greedy and not tell you about this place, but the new owner who restored it has done a phenomenal job to this 1761 building with eons of history, she totally deserves the business, and she’s handling it well!

This place is our first choice for our anniversary dinner. The menu is always impressive, as is the wine list. There is a lot of history and ambiance. The new ownership has only helped the restaurant improve.
