Wonderful place. Regulars to this Lake Street establishment come back for a reason. Excellent, professional service with a smile. Awesome small plates and consistent high quality of all menu items makes MBC an easy choice if you live in the area. It has convinced more than one person that moving to Miller is very doable. Love the specials and Latin night. Great, accommodating space.

We are so happy to have the Miller Bakery Café open. The things we love are the perfect steaks, the friendly service and the great selection of wines and cocktails. We also like that the portions are generous and you can find reasonably priced items on the menu — a great burger, a steak salad, the signature chopped salad. I am looking for them to mix up the appetizer menu a little more often. We come here once a month and I like the standbys, but I would like to have new creative appetizers to try every season.

I would like to like this place more but didn’t. Though the waitress was quite pleasant and helpful, I thought the food wasn’t up to par. The artichoke dip was surrounded by tortilla chips that tasted like they came out of a bag. The meatballs seemed to be store bought and were cold to barely warm in temperature. The steak filet was a nice cut, but also came out cold to warm. Bread pudding was good. Also I thought the place was over priced. An ok experience.

Went here with the family and was thoroughly impressed. At first I was skeptical because there were a few menu items that weren’t available such as the sea bass and filet. Still the items we did have were great. I definitely recommend the scallops and steak from the small plates. For entrees the ribeye was spectacular but I would also recommend the lamb chops, perch and trout.

Wonderful food… Friendly service… Fantastic Key Lime pie! In the area on business and my host brought me here. The service and the good were just what you would expect from a small café — good and«real». The décor, however, was more like a lounge with a full bar. Not a bad thing… just was a little surprising. Definitely try this spot.

What a disappointment. You can tell a lot about a restaurant by the way the staff acts on a quiet night or an hour before closing. We arrived an hour before closing on a Wednesday and the staff was completely checked out. I felt like I was visiting the DMV. Also, the food was quite boring. We arrived and waited and waited for a person to seat us. After we were seated, we waited perhaps 10 – 15 minutes to speak to anyone, at which point I had to lean back, look in the other room, and catch the bartender’s attention. We eventually ordered the taquitos as an appetizer and they were totally bland. We ordered the spinach salad, which was quite bland and served with the wrong cheese and over-boiled eggs. The perch dinner was quite marginal and the steak sandwich was tough. Nobody ever really checked to see if we were enjoying our dinner. We did enjoy visits from the bus boy who was continually checking his phone in the alcove behind us. The one saving grace was that the server took the salad off our bill due to the wrong kind of cheese being used. I appreciate that and wish the rest of the service and experience was so thoughtful. This is the only reason the place gets two stars rather than one. Overall, though, Miller Baker Café is a serious disappointment. I pass through here once a week if not more and I’ll not waste my time troubling the staff to get off their duff.

This place is amazing. I love the bar and the staff, particularly Kathy. I’ve been here over 20 times and Kathy is always a great bartender. The bar customers are always friendly and the staff is so professional. This place is the best place for miles and miles.

So good! The Chilean sea bass is the best I’ve ever had!!! Highly recommend. The prices are too high for Miller though. Don’t think they will survive with $ 30+/plate price tag. They should offer more between $ 15 – 30.

I have tried most of the menu. My favorite items are the crab cakes, soups, and chilli lime shrimp. The crab cakes price increased and that makes it expensive relative to other restaurants that I frequent. Overall, the food is good. All we are missing is some nice easy listening/jazz music. They used to play nice music(versitle) but stopped. Wine bottles are ½ price on Wednesdays.

To pricey for the area and more for business type meals. The area if low cost and this place is to expensive for the average people in the area. Food is good but portions very small. Can do better elsewhere. Went once and won’t go back

Good as it gets in NW Indiana. New owner have taken an interest. Food is way above average for our area. Ambiance is active but subdued. Servers are more sophisticated than what you’ll find in other venues. We like the atmosphere. Even though it is in Gary, land of the most corrupt, lazy politicians in Indiana(they own the abandoned properties that litter the city), we have never had an issue with the criminal elements at the Café. Miller is as close to a neighborhood like Chicago’s Hyde Park that you can find in Indiana. This is our favorite NW Indiana restaurant now.

Incredible food and a great atmosphere. A little on the pricier side, but sometimes you get what you pay for. I had the salmon, a side of tater tots and the bread pudding for dessert. The service was excellent. Will definitely be back for a special occasion.

First class dining in Miller Beach. White table cloths. yet casual. Great food. Good service. Nice well made cocktails. Very good wine list. Top notch salads, soups & ribeye! Great rolls. Perch. Good prices. Good specials. Try the soups. and Bread pudding! Well worth repeated visits!

All things great!!! Great burgers, great ribeye, great bread, great twice baked cheddar potato and great service. Definitely the best place for dinner & drinks in the miller beach area. With limited options for food/drinks elsewhere, MBC delivers consistently in all categories — food, music & ambience. I also recommend the chicken linguine & tator tots. Keep up the great work everyone!

Hello, FOODSNOB here. The new owners seemed to have matched the quality of the previous owners. The inside is really nice. Makes you forget about the neighborhood outside. Bar area is really cool. Nice place to go with friends. Seems like that’s what most people there did. The first thing I did was order the Roasted Garlic Bulb. Was tasty but the top was not cut off. Was kind of Messy when I had to squeeze with my hand. I had the Tilapia Ceviche which was almost a meal in itself. Really Good! I then had the Tilapia Sliders which were out of this world. But even BETTER was the side of Polenta. YUMMO! Was made with mushrooms and some kind of Meat gravy. My wife had the Tilapia and Pasta special. I tasted it and was very pleased. I would love to go back again.

Meet the new boss, better than the old boss. Same awesome environment; better menu. Popped in Valentine’s Evening and lucked out with the wine room for the four of us. The service was relaxed, charming and thorough. The menu had a lot to offer — lots bigger the old MBC menu. The food was quite good. My wife loved the seabass. I had the burger; our guests had the steaks. Everything was properly cooked and served at optimum temp. The beer selection was adequate, with a nice bonus of carrying 18th Street brand. And the wine was delicious. The jazz band sucked, but I’m more of a beastie boy anyway, so what do I know. Looking to step out of your comfort zone? Try this place, you’ll like it.

I’m so happy to see Miller Bakery Café opened again for business. I think Jack has a great vision for this place and I love the little touches he’s done here with still leaving the original charm in tact. The best items I’ve tried on the menu were the Chili-Rubbed Tiger Shrimp, which you can order ala carte(great idea), and the Lobster Martini. The bread pudding is quite decadent also! Looking forward to my next visit!

MBC is finally open again with a new owner and new look. I went to the soft opening in April and absolutely loved it. It hasn’t changed so much as to be unrecognizable, but the fresh paint and décor are quite nice. Like the old MBC, the food is superb and the cocktails are mixed perfectly. The wine selection is nice but not extensive. I met the new owner who was genuinely enthusiastic about welcoming new and returning guests. I can’t wait to try the entrees since I only sampled the appetizers at the soft opening. MBC is a favorite among locals, but anyone passing through or visiting the beach should plan to stop in for an unforgettable meal. If you think a gourmet meal isn’t possible in Gary, IN, you couldn’t be more wrong.
