Miller Beach is the best kept secret from most Chicagoans. I totally fell in love with the beautiful beaches and diverse ecosystems and people.

I like the Dunes. It is a forested-in beach in Northwest Indiana. That means it’s close enough to get to for a day trip, but far enough and off the road enough to be like a nice vacation spot. It gets nice and warm during the summer, but the water stays calm, just like a lake should be. I went here myself to scope it out at first and later in the summer took my roommates. Funny thing is that while we were frolicking in the water, we turned around and saw the giant nuclear cooling tower. Yay ionizing radiation leakage!

I grew up in this neighborhood and lived just 5 blocks from this beach. I had many fond memories growing up here and enjoy revisiting when I go back to visit family & friends. This is wonderful beach and is rarely crowded.

I love Miller. This weekend we went out to stay out at a friend’s beach house to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The Gary Air Show was happening, so it was a bit more crowded than I am used to. But, it is a homey little area, nestled into the dunes. Very happily situated and the beaches are so clean, we had a lot of fun walking them and craning our necks to watch the planes. If you’ve never stopped in Miller, I highly suggest it. After years of traversing Indiana in order to get to a lake house in Michigan, it is high time I stopped and just enjoyed what is so much closer.
