Arriving at the Middlefork Ranch, we were in awe of the natural beauty surrounding us. Although arriving earlier than what is expected, our cabin in ready. My husband and I stayed at the Raven’s Nest. This cabin is huge. As soon as you walk in, you can tell that place is very clean. You’ll find the kitchen equipped with everything you need. The dining area and the living room is so spacious. The deck is also equipped with gas bbq. The bed is so comfortable and I slept so good at night. We indulged in using the hot tub every night and watched the two wild deer eat raspberries. Star gazing from the hot tub is just captivating! There are so many things to do at the ranch. There is a volleyball court, badminton, swing and a playground for little kids. Our backyard is literally part of the Smith River. You can just preoccupy your time swimming and hanging out by the water. There is also a fire pit all set up for bonfires. Exploring the property is so refreshing. We had so much fun checking out the geese, turkeys and ducks. All the usable land in the middle of the wildness is just amazing. We would like to thank Kris and Mike for sharing a small piece of heaven with us. Thank you so much! This has been the most incredible experience. Pure serenity!!!

We stayed here over Christmas this year. Were a bit unsure of what to expect, as it is in a very small town, tucked away in the forests of Northern California. We stayed in the Rustic Retreat cabin for a couple of days. I would recommend staying here, especially if you are looking for a very quiet, and secluded get away. The property’s owners are very nice, and were happy to answer any questions or address any concerns that we had. The cabin itself was very clean. It has a full kitchen, which was very well stocked with dishes, pans, silverware, a coffee maker, and much more. The kitchen is open to a small dining area for four and the living room, which has a flat screen television. The bathroom was nicely tiled, and very clean, and the bedroom has a slider door which overlooks the Smith River. The overall feel of the place is very cabin-like, with bear and river décor, giving it a very home-like feel. During our time there it rained most of the days, so we weren’t able to experience much of the ranch itself, but from what we could tell, it would be a great place for fishing, bonfires, swimming in the summer, and much more outdoor fun. The only thing that I would say to be aware of is that the driveway is unpaved, and by unpaved, I mean it is basically a switch-backing, two track with lots of rocks and ruts, carved out of the side of a mountain. We had a station wagon without AWD and at times we were wondering if we would make it. We ended up having no big problems, our traction control was going off from time to time though. May be a little nerve-wracking for someone who is afraid of heights/driving along cliffs(as I am). I would absolutely stay here again. Though due to the length of the driveway(took us about a half an hour to get out to the main road), it may be a stay best suited for someone looking to kind of stay put for their vacation, rather than someone looking for a «home base» to just come back to after a day of touring the Redwoods, and the coast.
