Nice store with a beautiful selection of yarns, which they are very knowledgeable about. I went in looking for help picking yarn for a project. Was very successful at procuring the right yarn. Later went back for a little help with that same project. The owner was SO helpful. She sat down with me, knitted through the first part of the instructions and and set me on the path. I had struggled and struggled. I highly recommend this store!

Every year I love to go to the yarn crawl. In the passport booklet, I search out the shops offering coupons! While there were 14 shops on the yarn crawl this year, there were advertisements for additional shops not on the crawl, including A Sheep At The Wheel. Since today was the last day for the discount, I decided to see what they had to offer. The shop is nicely lit and organized well. It’s a smaller yarn shop, so it’s nice to not feel overwhelmed. I was personally very impressed with the yarns available. I didn’t check with the owner to be absolutely sure, but it seemed like the shop specialized in fair trade/eco-friendly type brands of yarn. I’ve been to other shops that do this, but sometimes those yarns seem uninteresting or not as soft or pretty as they could be. This was not the case in the selection at A Sheep At The Wheel! So much of the yarn was gorgeously dyed or a natural color, and felt great. I especially loved the little knit up swatch squares to let you feel and see how it knits up. Also, there were plenty of sample finished objects that were in the same yarn brand AND color as was available in inventory. It can be frustrating when you see pretty yarn on a sample only to find that the color or even worse, that type of yarn isn’t for sale. Take note, this shop offers a fabulous selection of bulky yarns. It’s hard to find good bulky yarn selections in Texas, so this was so delightful to see! There were so many brand and color options for bulky yarn. As my yarn stash is far too big already, I somehow held back on buying even more yarn. However, I was able to find just the right set of circular knitting needles for my first ever sock project. The double pointed needles I was using felt like it was just a little harder than it needed to be. In the front, the shop owner’s husband was helping customers. In the back, the owner was helping someone with their knitting project. When I asked a question about needles that the husband didn’t know, he passed the question on to the owner, who happily gave us her thoughts. I selected one needle for my project and a needle one size larger for a future socks project, and checked out. I will definitely return when I am looking for yarn for my bulky yarn projects, or if I happen to be in the area.(One nice little bonus is that it’s right next to a quilting store.)
