I liked going to Gumbo’s when they were located in Round Road. This new venue in Georgetown is too small to accommodate the tables they squeeze in the upstairs dining space. We didn’t have reservations so we ate upstairs in their more«casual» section. Upstairs, you are practically sitting on top of the other patrons and we could barely hold a conversation because there was a musician playing. Overall, the food was good, but if you want to be able to enjoy your meal and the company your are with, I would recommend making a reservation to ensure you can sit downstairs.

Had a great dinner tonight with my wife. Started with some savory escargot’s. Delicious but only had a sourdough baguette to accompany and soak up the buttery sauce. Filet mignon with bearnaise on a bed of crab meat was fantastic. Ordered it rare to medium rare and the chef got it absolutely right. House Shadowridge Merlot paired nicely. Our waiter, Josh, was new but did a superb job of explaining the dishes and promptly serving us. I highly recommend this jewel of a restaurant in a classic setting on the square.

Finally went to Gumbo’s after nearly three years and I regret not having gone sooner! This food is excellent! Brunch has great items. The biscuits and gravy are crave-worthy. Will definitely be back!

The food is just not consistent and prices are climbing. Last nights dinner for two with wine was over $ 100. No appetizers or dessert. Entrees only.

I really wish I could give a higher rating. They could be 5 star, but the night just started terrible. We went day after Valentine’s and knew it would be packed. We made our reservation, and showed up probably 5 minutes early. Lady at the door was unbelievably rude, told us we could go upstairs and find our own table or wait here and sit by the bar. We tried out upstairs, but literally got lost with all the tables just thrown about. Went back down and said we would wait for a table. Then it got good. Our waiter was AWESOME, the food was pretty tasty, and we liked the wine. Around us some people had problems with the crab meat coming out cold, but we think that was a line cook. The chef seemed pretty good, my steak was awesome. Hope to go back and get better service.

I’ve always wanted to take my wife to the Austin location because she loves gumbo, as do I as well. I was glad to see they opened a location closer to us. We went on Valentine’s Day without a reservation, a true death sentence for a long wait. I called a couple days ahead and the hostess said if we got there before 6 that the wait shouldn’t be too long. I called on a whim as we were heading over, and to our benefit, someone had cancelled earlier so she penciled us in! I will agree with others, the floor plan is pretty cramped, with people almost being able to touch elbows with the next table, but that really is a minor thing to me. I wasn’t going to let that ruin our kids free date lol. I ordered the sensation salad with a bowl of crawfish gumbo and both did not disappoint. I’m mostly just a fan of Italian salad, but the sensation salad had a lemon vinaigrette type dressing that I really liked. And the gumbo was AWESOME. I felt like I was down in New Orleans! I would definitely recommend at least getting a cup for anyone who goes there. Prices are a little high but it’s definitely a nicer place than the typical Chili’s, and also why you don’t see many kids in there.

Great food, great atmosphere, great staff. A little pricey, but a great date night.
