I have eaten here a few times now and the food is always excellent. I never see many people when I’m there and hope this restaurant catches on. We are lucky to have an authentic Cuban restaurant in Gtown!

My husband and I stopped in on a Saturday night. Our food came out quickly looking hot and delicious. I had the fried beef with peppers(ooh spicy!) with rice, black beans and fried plantains. It was yummy. My husband had the citrus chicken with black beans and rice and fried plantains. We both enjoyed our meals. The service was excellent.

Who would have imagined this place would spring up in little ol’ Georgetown? My wife and I stopped in in a whim, not expecting much, but what we got was what be both agree was likely our most memorable meal of 2015! Well, maybe the jerked chicken and black beans we had in Belize was a little better, but not by much. I had the Fricase Chicken and she had the Vacca Beef. What flavors! They were both perfectly seasoned and just amazing. Get the hot sauce on the side because it’s intense. Mine came with delicious black beans, both came with rice and yummy fried plantains. Portions were good, service was fast and it was $ 25 for the both of us. We were there on a rainy Saturday night and there were only a couple of other tables occupied, which amazes and saddens me – the place deserves to be wildly successful. I can promise we will be back soon. It’s tucked up into an older strip mall but don’t let that discourage you. The décor is neat, the waitress was great and the food was amazing. I can’t recommend it more highly.

Had to give this place 5 stars! For the money it was a great meal, and nice to have something a little different. Restaurant and staff were really pleasant. I hope they advertise, because you don’t really know it’s there.

This was our first visit. Dinner. There was one other couple and us. So the server was attentive. Nice décor, clean, with the placemats, cloth napkins & glass stemware they are trying to be upscale. Portions are plentiful. entrée prices range around $ 10-$ 12. Iced tea was not the best but all else was good. I did have some inedible dry pieces of pork in my dish but there was plenty to fill me. Cuban sandwich was big & tasty. Nice change of scenery.

Sad to see this place with only 3 reviews. The location is in a strip mall but once you walk inside, the ambiance and vibe is very nice. The portions of the food is fantastic for what you pay. It’s like above average fast food prices with nice dinner table portions and s real dinner, Both my co worker and I scraped our plates clean. When ever I’m in town I’ll make sure this is one of my stops. I had the pulled pork entrée and it was phenomenal along with the side of plantains. The service was impeccable and tentative as well.

Stopped in for lunch buffet. Selections included several cold salads(pasta and such), soup, a good chicken dish(dark meat), pasta in a tomato sauce with some pork, veggies, and a rice mixture. All was pretty good, but selection was limited. Dessert included a couple of puddings, a delicious rice pudding and a great cinnamon cake. Place was clean and the staff(the owners most likely?) were friendly. I’ll be back to try dinner sometime soon!

It’s been 14 years since I was first exposed to Cuban cuisine in Tampa, Fla., so I was intrigued when I saw a new restaurant pop up in Georgetown with a sign outside proclaiming«Authentic Cuban Cuisine.» The Julian’s opened in early January 2015 in a space formerly occupied by a Mexican restaurant in the Indian Acres shopping center, a dwindling strip mall once anchored by a bowling alley that’s now a church. Co-owned by Cuban immigrants Alexander Najara Perez and Maikel Rojas Perez, The Julian’s offers a somewhat small but diverse assortment of authentic Cuban entrees and sandwiches along with more pedestrian kid’s meal offerings(burger and fries, anyone?) guaranteed to appeal to any palate. Entrees are divided neatly into chicken, pork, beef and seafood varieties, but seafood lovers will be disappointed by the anemic offerings(two). Fresh seafood is a cornerstone of Cuban cuisine, but also much easier to come by on a Caribbean island than in landlocked Central Kentucky. As such, it’s understandable The Julian’s menu would be comprised mainly of the two– and four-legged protein varieties most readily available in these parts. In a community which perennially votes Long John Silver’s its«Best Seafood Restaurant» in the local newspaper’s annual reader’s choice awards, it’s actually laudable The Julian’s has chosen to forego most seafood altogether rather than serving up defrosted disappointment to a clientele that might actually care. Otherwise, the menu is indeed authentically Cuban, more so than one would expect 1,000 miles north of Havana in a Central Kentucky city of some 30,000 people, only 4.3 percent of which self-identify as Hispanic or Latino. Of course they’ve got congri, the Cuban staple composed of black beans and rice, but The Julian’s also serves more exotic Caribbean fare — like fried plantains — you’re unlikely to find at other area restaurants. Interestingly, they also offer French, sweet potato and yuca fries(made from the tuberous cassava root, another Caribbean staple food from which tapioca is derived). A traditional crème caramel flan de leche highlights the somewhat limited dessert menu. I opted for the $ 6.99 all-you-can-eat lunch buffet, which is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily(even on weekends — yay!). I arrived right at 2 o’clock and was pleased to learn I’d still be able to partake of the buffet, but disappointed the selection was somewhat limited by the fact other people had eaten much of the food. I guess that’s what I get for sleeping in on a Sunday. The very reasonable buffet price is supposed to include a soft drink, but I was shocked by a $ 2.25 upcharge for sweet tea with no warning whatsoever from my inattentive 16-year-old waiter(who is «beautiful,» according to a female patron who was too old to legally do anything more than tell him so), bringing my total check to $ 9.79 with tax before gratuity. The tea was good and the glass large, but it wasn’t worth an extra $ 2.25; next time, I’ll either get the included soft drink — apparently defined as soda only — or water. The buffet consists of a soup, two meats, two vegetables, one starch, a few cold salads(none of the lettuce variety) and a small selection of desserts. The two entrees when I visited were a delicious, fragrant baked chicken(dark meat only) with new potatoes and some sort of chopped chicken or pork dish the other patrons devoured before I got there. The meager scraping I was able to pry out of Door No. 2 wasn’t enough to adequately identify, but that one tablespoon coupled with the otherwise empty pan did serve as proof positive it was delectable(whatever it was). The two vegetable offerings were shriveled-but-tasty green peas and unremarkable mixed vegetables consisting mainly of corn, diced carrots and green beans. The starch was simply plain white rice, but admittedly very good plain white rice. Given the ubiquity of black beans in Cuban cuisine, I was extremely disappointed not to find any on the buffet that day. I left with a full belly, but a hole in my soul only congri could have filled. The hearty garbanzo bean(a.k.a. chickpea) soup seasoned with pork was quite good, as were the fresh, dressingless(if that’s a word) coleslaw and pasta salad I sampled. Other salads consisting of things like red pepper slices and olives drenched in likely tasty liquids looked fresh and interesting, but I don’t do olives, so I passed. All things considered, the buffet was delicious and a great value, drink issue notwithstanding. I felt like I’d gained 10 pounds when I retired to the men’s room after eating to wash my hands, but part of that was likely due to the fact it was so dark in there I could scarcely see my toes when looking down(I’ve been in actual caves that were brighter). I can say with certainty the restroom was spotless, though — had the floor been even the least bit dirty, it wouldn’t have reflected enough light for me to find the doorknob and get out to write this rev
