Advanced Dermatology

Based on the reviews I have read aout Dr. Patel I decided she was the dermatologist for me however after my waste of time, disappointing appointment, I can’t help but write this review and begin searching for a new dermatologist. To see Dr Patel in Germantown TN I would have had to wait nearly two months thus I choose to drive to the Mississippi office and waited three weeks — no problem. But I did have problems when I was forced to wait 30 minutes then Dr Patel only gave me 5 minutes of her precious time then quickly left the room. Before exiting, I called her back to address the two spots on my face. I was told it would cost $ 400.00 to have them removed. She proceeded to tell me, the procedure would be done down the hall but they weren’t in the office so I could come back. She also suggested I purchase an expensive cream to apply but when I went to buy the cream from her front desk, they were out of the cream so I could drive to her other office in Germantown and buy it there — really??? I left with nothing accomplished except wasting my time and learning Dr Patel would not be recommended by me. This is the first time I had ever felt it necessary to write a review about anything other than a restaurant but felt it necessary to save someone else from wasting their morning or afternoon.

My appointment started out fine — but I left there very disappointed. How do you not go over paper work with new patients? I have tons of skin issues and want a dermatologist that is credible and able to help me. Instead I got a Physician Assistant (PA) that had no clue about anything other than moles. I had a new issue on my toe and asked three times what it was. All I got was «take antihistimes.» I had to beg for prescription refills and got them to agree to two of them (they didn’t give me paper scripts to take with me, so I’m hoping this will happen) and was also told they would not write a prescription because it was «off label» — but if you read the manufacture’s website about the drug it says main treatment is for x — but also used to treat … I asked the helper why and all she would say is «I don’t know. Ask your primary care doctor». The PA wouldn’t even have the conversation with me. I was also hoping I would get good tips or medical advice on how to deal with rosacea — but nothing. Left feeling like I had bothered them. Entire experience was a major letdown — especially after having great dermatologists in other states. Had high hopes for this place. Guess I will try another practice.
Update — they sent my two one time prescription requests to my mail order pharmacy instead of the Walgreens as discussed. This will force me to get more drugs than I need and delay how quickly I will receive. DID THEY LISTEN TO ANYTHING I SAID???

I have nothing but good things to say about this group. They are an accommodating and professional practice. I was able to get an appointment for a rash very last minute. I’ve seen Dr. Patel before, but I took a chance with one of the new doctors in the practice and he was phenomenal as well. The staff are all kind and seem to genuinely care about their patients. I will recommend them to everyone.

I’ll add that 5^th star, I just know it. I’ve been battling some mean systemic poison ivy for almost 2 weeks, coupled with chigger bites and HIVES all over my body. Misery followed when I ran out of my steroid pack from the Minor Medical, and the poison ivy is still spreading.
This morning I phoned Advanced Dermatology’s office and was able to get an appointment with a NP Alexis Johnson same-​day. I showed her my wounds, told her what I’d used previously, and she suggested a topical steroid cream and a stronger steroid tablet course. I asked if I could get a steroid shot for some right-​now relief and she said certainly, but then I heard her new nurse asking which needle to use for that. They were nice tnough. The paperwork was the scariest part.

Edited 6 15 15, adding that 5^th star. Ointment caused folliculitis, one whitehead became infected and turned into a boil (staph infection). I was able to get a next day appt and have it lanced and drained. Now this is literally the most painful experience of my life, and I cried like a baby for half a day. You see, numbing shots don’t work on infected tissue. I just love how helpful the staff is, and the empathy they showed me. I am still waiting on a bill, but whatever it is, I’m sure it’ll be worth it.

Pretentious, rude, and un-​accommodating. I knew more about my skin products than Patel did.

This dermatologist was highly recommended, but after a few visits I am very disappointed (even took my daughter in). After a few discussions with some clients and other girls I work with they are not satisfied with them anymore. I have put in 2 calls (before 3pm) to get a call back. NO response!!! My pharmacy called 8 times and NEVER received a call back. Horrible customer service!!! I work with/​come in contact with Lots of women and I will never recommend this place. Makes me doubt their competence on all levels

I have been looking for a great dermatologist to take care of my Australian skin prone to sun damage. It was getting expensive to fly to LA.
Professional, great location, Dr. Patel and her staff specializes in dermatology and skin cancer treatment .
Note: Their lasers are now at the Olive Branch location if you are looking for cosmetic work.

I did a series of light chemical skin peels (3) over 6 weeks. All sun damage and fine lines are gone. It is amazing! I would have never though that this treatment would be so effective. Jennifer gave follow up advice for keeping my skin looking good. She is so nice and did such a great job! Very impressed!
