i walked into the gym only wanting and normal gym membership, but somehow left with a trainers contract. They’re customer service is the worst i’ve ever experienced at a gym. the administrative team is awful at communication. Emails that i send are often left unread. i called to front desk to speak to the General manger of the branch and i was hung up on by the desk attendant twice. i pay way too much for this gym and they chose not to cooperate. Do not waste your time or your money here. LA Fitness or Planet fitness is a way better option. the Manger Emanuel lets the staff be defiant to members. most of the equipment is broken and does not work. when i approached someone about a broken barbell it was left on the ground for weeks. Im telling you, do not go to this gym!

Tried to cancel my membership went in they told me ok its cancelled next thing there still charging me, i called to tell them they were still chargiging me, and they were very rude were hanging up on me i tried to call back and they kept hanging up on me… not to mention this place is super dirty all the machines are old and most machines dont work stay away

Understand what you are getting yourself in for if you want cheap gym access. The Germantown Golds is one of the worst in the area, so definitely recommend another location if you’re flexible. This one always reeks and you are concerned about inhaling carcinogens that smell like sewage when you take a Group Exercise class.
Pros:
–If you just want to do your own thing and can tolerate newbie exercisers, they have equipment
–If you’re obsessed with Les Mills classes, they have them (and some instructors are really great)
–If you can’t afford a better gym, it’s cheap here
Cons:
–No personal attention, if you want to change your body you are on your own
–Lack of respect to members, there will constantly be people screaming into cell phones or using equipment without wiping or people visibly sick

Its a gym. Thats all I can say. All the broken equipment and this constant sewage smell in the gym is just overwhelming. I probably wont renew my contract.

Worst customer service ever. I made an appointment the day before and have been waiting for over 45 minutes to speak with someone. Choose another gym if you can.

I joined last November and have enjoyed being a member ever since. It’s reasonably priced and have been continually improving their equipment. Staff is generally hospitable and welcoming.
The locker rooms are pretty nice with a sauna and plenty of locker space.
There is a whole section dedicated to cardio with plenty of ellipticals, treadmills, and bikes. They also have a couple of all purpose rooms that give people privacy to work out and enough room to do free weights or do floor exercises.
One thing that could be improved is better advertising of class schedules.

YIKES!!! Their gym itself is ok. Billing office is awful. Over charged and underwhelmed. The staff in billing is rude and nasty. Wouldn’t come back if it was free.

This Golds is nice, they have a great amount of cardio machines so waiting is not necessary. They also have great classes and a super friendly staff! I love the people who work in the kids club as well, they are so attentive of the kids and there is a window where you can peak and see what your children are up too. I recommend this location to anyone in g-​town!

Very friendly workers, not too crowded, good variety of equipment. Very clean, they have a girl who is constantly working. Read some not favorable reviews, but I think it was very nice

The layout of this gym is very snake-​like. I agree with some of the reviewers that the gym could be a little more spacious. It is cool that each type of training (free weight, weight machines, cardio) has its own room or section of the gym, but when you go during any sort of busy period, you are kinda tripping over the other gym-​goers. When I signed up for my membership… there was a bit of a misunderstanding between me and the guy who gave me my contract, and I thought I paid too much. I thought there was no chance I’d get any sort of positive response, so on a prayer, I messaged Emmanuel, the manager. Within 48 hours I had a cash refund of the difference between what I thought I was going to pay, and what I actually paid. Very understanding, and willing to work with me and I appreciated it greatly.
A cool plus is the fact they even have a little extra space to do some training on your own in a more private/​secluded fashion. Overall, this gym is fine for anyone off the street just looking to start a dedicated path of fitness.

Just got the release from my doctor so I’m back at the gym. I started going to this gym when it was Fitness World, Fitness First and now Golds. Since taking over Golds made some improvements. There’s a stretch room, a weight room, exercise room, an abs room, etc. I like this bc you no longer have to step over people as you walk through the gym to use the equipment.
If you want to lay in the floor to stretch or work on your abs there’s a room for that!
I’m back in and ready to go.

OK gym. Free weights a bit crowded but lots of cardio. No towels. Doesn’t open until 7 on Saturdays, and showed up one morning and they were 25 minutes late opening.

While a few new pieces of equipment was added when Fitness First changed to Gold’s, most of the older pieces are rickety or in need of repair. The women’s bathroom has pink mold in the showers and the sauna is usually out of order once a month. The carpeting and mats are worn and could use a good cleaning.
The worst part of the club is Jan the trainer. She is rude, obnoxious and childish. I have overheard her gossip about members of the club while she is training other members. I watched her purposefully stand in the way of a member doing free weights then laugh when the member got upset. Jan is a bully.

I just joined this gym a couple of weeks ago and I must say, I am impressed. The space is huge and clean. They have a variety of equipment and cater to any fitness routine. I love that they have the training room and a separate area for stretching and abs and so on. The staff is extremely nice and while Planet Fitness strives off the «no judgment» I feel like Gold’s is a judgment free zone too. I like having everything I need in one place. I just started personal training, I suckered into since shedding weight by myself wasn’t exactly working. My trainer is a good fit. He listens and gives feedback and makes the time we’re working out fun but effective. I am so glad I joined!

I had been going to the this for many years when it was still Fitness First. After the change over, there wasn’t much of a noticeable change in the interior until I came back about a month ago and it looks like there were some significant upgrades to the place.
I have been a gym rat for a long time. Always was trying out the latest plans and tweaking my own routine to see how best to maximize my results from my workouts. As I get older though I notice that a lot of things change biologically that now it seems time for some professional advice.
In comes Chris who is a personal trainer at this fine establishment. I came in for a consultation and a workout and Chris was there to give me insight to things that I can improve upon as well as some new exercises that I could try in my weekly routine. He has a great concept of what it takes to push you to that next level but he also is able to explain the benefits and science behind his methodology.
If you are looking for a trainer that knows his stuff and that will keep you motivated, give him a shot. I think you will find that it will be worth your while.
Note: I think he would be great for beginners as well as seasoned gym goers.

I have to give high marks to this gym for a few reasons. Number one I have to say is the staff very helpful and friendly. You will receive a family type of environment. The equipment has been upgraded and well maintained since Golds took over the location. The prices are very low for the quality of the gym. The gym is spacious and has equipment for all levels from beginners to Pros.

I love this gym! It may be small, but it packs everything that I need in a gym! The front desk is wonderful, the kids club is the best I’ve experienced in a gym, and it has all the equipment I need! Great gym!

This place is a mixed bag. On the plus side, they have plenty of cardio equipment if you want to run and there’s rarely a wait. They have quite a few machines (if that’s your thing) and adequate free weights. The staff is friendly and courteous and they are actually attempting to respond to member requests/​complaints since Gold’s took over the location! That never happened when Fitness First was running the gym.
Quite a few negatives though:
*This place has a very odd layout to say the least. The main room is filled with machines that see very little use, meanwhile the free weight room is narrow, cramped and crowded. The men’s locker room is also laid out very strangely and people are constantly having to push by each other.
* This place has a problem with theft. I’ve seen multiple signs begging for the return of items going missing from lockers. On top of that, dumbbells are constantly being stolen which then take about a month to replace. How does that even happen?
* There’s a horrible sewage smell near the studios that the staff blame on the building construction. As far as I know, nothing has been done despite multiple members complaining.
* They close the men’s locker room every day for a half hour in the middle of the freaking day to clean it because they refuse to hire a male janitor. Pretty awesome that they think it’s ok to inconvenience their members like this. If they want to let a female clean the men’s locker room, why don’t they do it after hours?
* Equipment is constantly in disrepair or broken and then unavailable for lenghthy periods of time. I pointed out a dangerously frayed braided steel cable on one of the tricep machines to a staff member. They put an «out of order» sign on it for 2 days, then took it off and let people continue to use it until the cable snapped (at which point the sign went back up). Sure hope no one got hurt!
* Extremely shady billing practices. They just moved my account from a monthly billing cycle to a bi-​weekly cycle so that they can squeeze a few extra payments out of me per year. Hope you don’t lose your credit card either! I had a card cancelled by my bank due to the Home Depot security breach late last year. When I informed the gym, they tried to hit me with a $ 50 «late fee» (which they eventually removed after I argued for a bit). Also, I’ve never had to do it but I hear the cancellation process is a nightmare that must be completed in writing and then mailed to some corporate office somewhere. No option to cancel via fax, email or in-​person.
* Men’s showers are gross. Unsurprising because… men’s showers but there’s really nasty black mold growing around the tops of both showers. Maybe they should get the little lady who cleans the locker room a stepladder?
* Lots of jackholes who refuse to re-​rack their weights when they’re finished using them and won’t wipe their nasty sweat off of benches before they wander off. Come on guys, we’ve been working out since high school. No one wants to lie down in a pool of your sweat. Bring a freaking towel or use one of the 20 paper towel/​sanitizer stations littered around the gym!
* No towel service.
* Staff won’t enforce their cell phone rules. Get used to obnoxious overweight soccer moms strolling along at a snail’s pace on a treadmill while blabbing away on their cell phones. Don’t expect anyone to do anything about it.
* There’s a room for stretching and abdominal exercises labeled «Ab’s» instead of «Abs» which bothers me a lot more than it should.
Take all of this with a grain of salt though. If you live in Germantown, your options are extremely limited. I miss WSC so much! I wouldn’t be stuck with Gold’s if WSC hadn’t suddenly closed two years ago. Unfortunately, if you want to actually lift weights, Gold’s is pretty much your only option in the area unless you want to risk setting off the «lunk alarm» at Planet «Pizza Wednesdays» Fitness or drive 20 minutes to the LA Fitness on Clopper.

Instead of calling me to let me know my credit card couldn’t be charged (credit card was changed due to recent beaches in major online stores), they let it accrue and sent me to a collection agency without a single notice. I have very good credit and is crazy it will be damaged by a $ 58.00 bill from some random gym that can’t provide such a simple courtesy to its customers as a phone call. I’ve been a member for five years, and had a personal trainer with them for four of them, so you’d figure they would try to be a little loyal to their customers., During 2011 I’ve had my cell phone stolen in this gym as well (there is a police report where I reported the incident). I think I’m done with them.

Way nicer than it looks from the outside. It is nicely located near 270 but is in a strip mall and looks very small. However, they must have bought all of the stores out because they took over most of the L shaped structure. While it is a bit weirdly set up as a result they do have everything that you need.
Cardio does not have TVs at every machine it does have the up top big screens with audio at every machine. They have some cool video game style bikes and the big stair masters and lots of new stair master types that span different options. The weight rooms have everything and new as well. My only complaint there is that they don’t have enough benches by the free weights. And because of the weird setup the machines are far. So you can’t do one set of free weights and then easily/​quickly jump to a machine weight. Staff is nice and parking ample.
