The Germantown Community Library is going strong and growing. When I moved to Germantown, the library was jammed into a small building with hardly enough room in the stacks to turn around. With a cooperative effort, a new library building was constructed. Plans called for a main floor and a mezzanine, but funding was short so the mezzanine was never built. The result is a comfortable, wide open space. The inventory is increasing and the stacks are filling. The library offers books and periodicals(of course) as well as audio books, music, movies and a reference section. There is a large children’s library with a dedicated children’s librarian. There is WiFi and there are workstations in case you didn’t bring your own computer. There are display cases with rotating items of local interest and plenty of room to display works of local, youthful artisans. There are available study rooms, meeting rooms and a large community room. As a member of the federated library system and SHARE, any publication can be brought in from(almost) any library in the state system. The librarians and circulation staff are friendly and pleased to help out, just ask. By the way, the framing is there for the mezzanine, perhaps you might help them build it someday? Germantown residents are fortunate to have such a wonderful community resource in a charming, attractive library.
