Horrible customer service. I open new accounts online and transfered in money from another bank. Eight days later the accounts are still not open and available for use.
The online reply told me to bring a photo ID and signature card. I did. Then they wanted more paperwork. Well tell me that up front so I can bring it. So then I email the extra paperwork. But they claimed the email got lost. Every other email went through just fine.
And the best part then is last night I get an email offering to email me routing and account information in email. Email is NOT secure. I told Maria Clair not to email anything like this via unsecured email and she went ahead and did it anyway. Scary. A good financial institution should know not to email unsecured financial information.
Now trying to get my money back is a hassle too.

My husband deposited his GI Bill checks into an account at MAFCU. He has been told for 2 weeks now that there is a security hold on his account and he cannot withdraw any funds or close his account. The bank could not explain the security hold and told my husband it may remain on his account for another 30 days. As a result, this is creating a financial hardship for a hard working veteran. Shame on you MAFCU. He has spent hours at the credit union these past few weeks and has gotten the run around. Terrible customer service. As soon as MAFCU removes the security hold we will be closing all accounts here and never, EVER returning.

The Gaithersburg branch is a joke. There’s this particular teller, I think she’s African, doesn’t say hello and no communication till you walk away, not even a thank you if you are lucky she would hand you a receipt but if not she would drop it on the counter for u and calling for the next person. Lol. I usually don’t give reviews but I had to this time around.

I am not a member of this credit union. This is a small credit union on the corner. The staff is friendly and helpful. I will be back if I am in the area. They need to work on the teller area because it is a box. One can mess up their car trying to leave the atm. Give the cars some space to ride.

THE MOST ACCURATE REVIEW*** I’ve been with MAFCU for 18 yrs. The first 10 were great. Has been on a down hill stride for the past 8. As far as locations, they have never been strong but because they have so few customers, its always a short wait for a teller. The drive thru is a joke ive had several deposit only transactions that have taken just under 10 minutes and its because I didnt get a response until 9 minutes after initially pushing the call button. When you do finally get a response, its a sleepy rude person completely lacking in any kind of work ethic who’s tone of voice makes you feel as tho youre putting them out by asking them to do their job and simply deposit a check. A different face every time yet its the same apathetic attitude Its obvious whoever is in charge of hiring, is extremely insecure of their own people skills and refuses to hire anyone upbeat or friendly. The ²⁴⁄₇ online banking often has issues and will not let you access your accounts for hours up to entire days (happens once every couple months). Ive never applied for a loan here but I hear its next to impossible but it wouldnt be fair to judge unless I tried and failed myself. Lastly I would give them one star but they dont have a lot of fees which is really what its all about right? Long story short, this bank has been a five star (or a high four) in the past, but the people who work there all suck and the drive thru at 555 QO looks rundown and decrepit; birds nests in the lights and what not, but their rates are decent and there are little to no fees. Sometime you have to pick your battles. See I told you it was accurate ;)

I have been a member of MAFCU for over 25 years and the Germantown Branch has been the location I have the most experience with — and have loved every year of it! The people at this branch are always helpful, and have made sure I was aware of any and all opportunities to help me increase my little nest egg. Even when I moved to Washington state, I have kept my accounts at MAFCU because of the service I get from this branch in particular.

I have been very happy with MAFCU so far. They have offered better rates then the banks. I think it is important to support credit unions also. I have never had a wait in line or any service problems when visiting the branch, so far so good.

Drive-​thru tellers needed to be a little faster. It’s took too long to complete the transaction. Most MAFCU’s representatives are pretty helpful and friendly. It’s pretty hard to get a loan from this bank through. I have been a member for over 20 years and never been late with my payments. But, I have a hard time getting a car loan. Underwriter should had took my history with the bank into consideration… not just based their decision on my credit report.

These people are arrogant lowlifes. They treat members like garbage and will do nothing to help you when you are having financial problems. They will overcharge you for going over the limit on your checking account even when it is their fault. Their on line service is trash and will tell you you have a positive balance then a couple of days later they will revise what they say is your balance and screw you out of enormous amounts of overdraft fees at $ 29.50 each. It does not matter to them if you need money to feed your children or keep your lights on or gas in your tank. These people have more in common with a mafia loan shark operation than a credit union and are perfectly happy to see you and your family starve.

I like their drive-​thru tellers. So handy! Free coin counting, etc.
However, I’m becoming less & less satisfied with their service. They are rude, apathetic, & most unhelpful by phone. Good luck with the website, not much better. Once you get it the door, it seems a cadre of teenagers & 20 somethings are more than willing to show you that no one trained them in good customer service.
If you have to talk to a representative or apply for anything, be prepared to sit in the lobby with outdated financial magazines for 30 minutes while the rep firms up weekend party plans on his cell.
A+ for accessibility and very little hidden fees
