Good food and good beers, Appalachian Brewing Company will satisfy, just avoid this place during the obvious busy times. Reading the other reviews, Appalachian Brewing Company seems to be a victim of its own success. Many of the complaints stem from poor service and a few from people who aren’t fans of the beer produced here. ABC has become a regional brewery chain with several locations across the state, and this location is located less than five minutes outside of Gettysburg just off Route 15, within walking distance of a hotel. So the place is perpetually crowded, and it’s not too surprising the service suffers as a result. However, I was really surprised how much I enjoyed ABC. My girlfriend and I were at ABC right when they opened for lunch. Despite the early time, there was a surprising amount of people that showed. Wanting to sample everything, we ordered a flight of their beers($ 12), which included eight very generous pours. Despite some of these harsh reviews, I really liked all of the beers I tried, especially the Water Gap Wheat, Mountain Lager, and the Jolly Scot Scottish Ale. As a fan of wheat beers, that Water Gap Wheat was excellent — light and smooth, and the lemon on the side really brought out that wheat flavor. I’ll also give a shout out to the Hoppy Trails I.P.A., with its slight IPA aftertaste that didn’t overwhelm, and the malt goodness of the Aero Head Bock. We didn’t stop at the beer — we also decided to order some burgers as well. What I really liked about the menu is you get to pick your burger meat(Angus Beef, Chicken, Turkey, and Black Bean, then your burger style(existentially the toppings), and side. I loved the simple make-your-own-burger menu, so I went with a Turkey Burger with the Boo Boo style(caramelized onions, white cheddar cheese, Pulled Pork and coleslaw), with sweet potato fries. The turkey burger was thick and juicy, and the combination of onions, pulled pork, and coleslaw… I mean come on — you can’t go wrong with that combo. My girlfriend ordered the Black Bean burger with the Thru Hiker style(baby spinach and sliced tomatoes, melted smoked Gouda cheese ripe avocado with honey ginger mayonnaise) with coleslaw. Again, ABC hit a home run — the black bean burger was prepared perfectly and didn’t fall apart when you bit into it(a common black bean burger problem), the spinach and avocado were fresh, and that honey ginger mayo was heavenly. The coleslaw was only average and in desperate need of pepper. Taken all together, I see no reason not to give Appalachian Brewing Company five stars. They delivered on the beer and food admirably, and I would be very much inclined to come here again. If you’re a beer snob, Battle Field Brew Works is a few minute down the road toward Gettysburg. But I really enjoyed the beer here and the food is better. If you’re on the fence, ignore the poor reviews and come here during an off hour.

We needed a place for lunch on our roadtrip south through PA and decided all of the fast food places west of Hwy 15 would not do so we found this joint. It was pretty empty for a Thursday at lunch. They had a good selection of beers and craft sodas and the typical menu of brew pub fare. The thinly sliced ham on a pretzel roll was just OK. The ham was not sliced that thin and the pretzel roll was dry and tough since they toasted it. Pretzel rolls are best fresh and soft not toasted — it was almost inedible it was so dry. Those who got burgers thought they were good. Overall better than fast food but not great…

This was truly a miss. Husband ordered a burger medium rare– it was raw. I got the pierogies– salt licks are less salty– I’m Czech/German so I’m spoiled– but they were deep fried– a few onions thrown on them and a salty mustard– it was impossible to cut– not great! We hoped the smores flatbread would redeem– but it was yuck.

Stopped by this location on the way home From a family reunion. What was perfect was that it was a stone’s throw away from my hotel! Lovely! I took a seat at the bar and was greeted by a very kind and sociable bartender. E gave me a minute to decide what I would like to order. I chose 4 samples of seasonal brews, and he was knowledgeable with the placement and order at which I should try them. The food, eh. Not so good. I wasn’t too hungry, so I ordered the big island flatbread, with the intent of taking at least half of it home. It came out overdone-very crispy and burnt around the edges. Fortunately, the bartender noticed and offered to take half off the price. I was fine with that, as I hate to waste, and it was still edible. However, in today’s age of outstanding brewpub food, this place can’t hold a candle. The service was great. The beer was good. I would go back to try something different.

It was adequate. But, the same meal would have cost at least 5 times as much if it had been served at the Marriott across the street. Actually, given the mediocrity of the food, it might in fact be owned by Sodexho, the devil that owns Marriott. I ate here to avoid giving Courtyard a dime of my money because they were going to charge me about $ 2.50 for a cup of brewed coffee(which«cheaper» hotels provide for free 24 hours a day). But, I left unsatisfied and really hungry. I had a salad with salmon, and two beers. I advise anyone staying in that area to find a grocery store and buy food there. Cheaper and better. And, stay at the Sleep Inn. Free breakfast, free coffee, free WiFi.
