WHAT A FIND!!! SCCAP Café offers freshly-prepared food, all created with love by students who are in the Food Service Development Program. This 2-month program teaches students entry-level food service skills so that they can become more employable in the food service industry — they also go on to take the ServSafe certification course, which recognizes those who are able to safely handle food(as required in PA for all food service establishments). The menu offers burgers, sandwiches, soups, salads, and even daily specials. The hubs and I shared the SCCAP Café Burger, which comes with a very juicy and flavorful local ground beef patty, topped with cheddar cheese lettuce, tomato, and mayo — we even opted to add bacon. This came with a side of freshly-fried hand-cut french fries — yum! The burger was so delicious, cooked to a perfect medium. We also tried some of their soups — I had the Purée of Roasted Potato(it was creamy, thick, flavorful, and filled with chunks of potatoes), and the hubs had the Turkey Rice with Spinach(this was definitely healthy-tasting, with tons of turkey bits, spinach, and perfectly-cooked rice; the hubs was a total fan!). Everything tasted so fresh: D When you walk in and have the chance to look at their dry-erase board listing all their items, you just order up at the cashier, and the food is served to you at your table. Everyone was super friendly and awesome, and I look forward to coming back again to try out their other items: D Definitely a great place to support and a wonderful spot to get a delicious meal: D +SCCAP Café Burger: D +Purée of Roasted Potato soup: D +fresh hand-cut fries: D +delicious and fresh meals: D +friendly staff: D +great organization to support: D +located in front of the building under the covered porch(past the main center)

Overview: A wonderful and cheap place to stop in for lunch. A bit off the beaten path, but well-worth taking the time to find. Since the café is dedicated to helping low-income and even homeless people learn a skill so that they can find employment, you can also feel great about giving your money to a good cause and a good meal. Food: I have eaten nearly everything on the menu and have loved it all. The burgers are well-cooked and seasoned. The French-fries are hand cut and the salads are large and beautiful. Recommend: The Cuban is a great choice for a sandwich. For salads, the homemade Caesar dressing is fantastic. I would also recommend any of the homemade soups. Atmosphere: Because it’s out of the way, the café is nice and quiet. There’s plenty of seating room too, so families can easily be accommodated. Simple and effective. Service: The cashier/waitress will take you order and bring you your food. Utensils/drinks/napkins/condiments are up to you and easily located on a table. The workers have always been friendly.

SCCAP Café is tucked away from Gettysburg tourist center. It’s not easy to find and is part of South Central Community Action Programs. Its purpose is to give unemployed residents of Adams County(Gettysburg is a borough in Adams County) a chance to learn the restaurant business. Once they finish the two month program, they apply to area restaurants for jobs. The training is hands on in a café environment. The building that houses the café is neat and clean. When you walk in, there are about ten tables so I’d say that they have a seating capacity of about 50 people. My wife and I went in for lunch today and it was excellent. The service is minimal. The worker who takes your order brings your food to the table and you get your own napkins, utensils, water, beverage, etc. The menu is hand written on a large white board and there are about a dozen luncheon selections. I ordered a Sandwich Cubano and my wife ordered a Blackened Hamburger. They were perfectly cooked and came with a large side dish of home made French Fries. The portions were generous and the quality of the food excellent. My Sandwich Cubano had a pork cutlet in it as well as ham, cheese, pickles and sauces. Tipping is up to the customer but the worker was so nice that we left a good tip. The food without tip was $ 14 which was a real bargain in Gettysburg. They have tap water in a pitcher with ice so you don’t have to get bottled water or soda. There was a notice at our table that they are having a Valentine’s Day supper for $ 50/person to help the program. Basically, this was a win-win lunch. Great food for a great purpose. The place is within easy walking distance of Lincoln Square and Gettysburg College but not on the main drag.
