This review is for the Confederate Trails company that is associated with the Victorian Carriage Tours. We ended up at this address on Emmitsburg Rd. for our Licensed Battlefield Guide 2 Hour Horseback Ride — it was printed on the e-tickets we received. Be sure you go to «McMillan Woods Campground»(on the other side of town!) if you’re doing the horseback ride tour. We were very late and almost missed the tour due to the inaccurate directions!

This review is for the ‘Licensed Guide Carriage Tour’, visited April 2014.(Excited to be the first reviewer!) PROS: We took this 2 hour carriage tour in April 2014. I used my GPS to find the entrance but as I read somewhere else, the entrance is hard to spot and easy to pass. It looks just like a private driveway into dense foliage. Once parked, we were greeted by someone who looked like he ran the place. He was friendly and made good conversation, offering the use of a bathroom and a horseshoe for my child. After meeting the horses and dogs we boarded a new, covered wagon. There were about 8 passengers total. The historian who accompanied the tour, Dale Brister, was wonderful. He provided a rich narrative with occasional poetic commentary that reminded us of the history which belonged to a beautiful landscape. When I booked this tour, I included a note that I had ancestors who had been at the battle of Gettysburg. Two days before our tour they called to confirm they had actually completed research on my behalf. It was such a treat to have a custom commentary during the tour. CONS: The price point is high but comparable to the NPS bus tour — and a bus tour is in no way as enjoyable as a covered horse drawn carriage! If you have small children this may be a bit hard for them to endure — be smarter than I was and bring an ipad and headphones for them to occupy themselves with if necessary. CONCLUSION: If you have the room in your budget, this is a must do. The tour was comfortable, friendly, and enriching. Gettysburg gets crowded. A leisurely tour by horse is a nice break and an opportunity to get a little closer to the history of the area. FORTHEOWNERS/STAFF/HISTORIAN: Thank you for such an enriching afternoon!(Also, thank you for enduring the near tantrum from the young child in my party!)
