On the rare occasion that everyone in our household was home on a Saturday morning we decided to go out for breakfast. I had a particular craving for sausage gravy. My wife an omelet, and my son his usual pancake. I had come to this diner when it first opened with a friend and had fond memory of it. I believe my memory is correct, but the diner has had a drastic decline. Upon arrival there was one table… Which was covered in syrup. The bus girl came over and took the tip money the previous patron had left, but ignored the table entirely. After ordering it took 45 minutes to get our food. My wife says she can’t complain about her omelet. Wish I could say the same about my meal. It’s obviously that all the food is bought in. Only thing missing was the Cisco truck parked out front. My gravy was clearly from a powder and had chunks of sausage mixed in. The biscuits were pop and bake. Then the home fries… Soggy mess. As I write this I see they have also over charged us on the check.

Take a little detour off the beaten path in Gettysburg and away from all the tourist traps to enjoy a meal in a local restaurant. Do not let the appearance of this restaurant keep you from going in — it is located in a strip shopping center off Route 30 on West Street in the Gettysburg Shopping Center — it is in the corner. The décor is simple. It is not a large place. We were thrilled that the West Side Diner serves breakfast all day. Beth, our server, made us feel so welcome. They have an extensive menu. Beth answered all of our questions. The coffee was fresh and good. I enjoyed creamed chipped beef over hash browns — perfect. My husband had the Diner special — 2 eggs, 2 French toast, home fries and sausage — all really yummy. My brother enjoyed 2 eggs, home fries and corned beef hash with a side of scrapple — all delicious. We can see why this restaurant is a favorite among the locals. The prices are really reasonable. Treat yourself to some wonderful home cooking and go to the West Side Diner — you won’t be disappointed.

An off the beaten path little hometown restaurant with very good food and a very friendly waitress. The prices were really reasonable. This place is far better then any chain restaurant.

Good, standard diner food. One star less than the Lincoln because the home fries were kinda meh. But good omelet, better bacon than the Lincoln, good service.

Better than starving on a Sunday morning when nothing else in Gettysburg is open. Home fries were cold. Coffee was ok. Biscuits were decent.

Service was painfully slow and not particularly friendly. The blueberry pancakes and French toast were delicious, but my «sausage gravy» was basically just salty white sauce. Large portions for a great price but they skimp on quality.

My wife and I eat here about once a week for a couple years now. Friendly staff, quick service, food is very good. Small family diner with family friendly prices.

We ate here this morning. The food was of poor quality and the service was slow. The hash browns looked like fried mashed potatoes, the eggs, requested as over hard, were dramatically over-cooked and gross and the French toast was moist with raw egg and soggy. Just gross.

West Side Diner was recommended as a cheap place for locals. We have been there twice for breakfast and I will confirm it is cheap, but the food is uninspired. So are the staff. Getting a refill on a cup of coffee can be difficult at times. The ambiance is typical strip-mall diner, but for some reason the place always seems so loud. More like a cafeteria. After the second visit, my hubby informed me we will not be back, even though the place is only a block from our house.

Was passing through the other day and really wanted to avoid the tourist traps downtown. I saw the reviews for this diner on Unilocal, noticed that it had ample parking in a surface lot, and though — perfect! Then — I got there. And, it got even perfecter. I was there for breakfast and their menu was nice and comprehensive. And, as others have noted, super cheap, imho. Which is great! Not because I’m a cheapy pants(even though I am), but because their restaurant seemed to be filled with local regulars who were at a point in their life where they were fixed income. At that point, a $ 5 breakfast can be a big commitment. For a tourist, a $ 5 breakfast can be a massive relief on ye olde pocketbook. Breakfast was fast, accurate, and good. I don’t say this often, but, their egg sandwich was better than I make. If I lived here, I would eat here all the time.
