I went to the Groves Bakery thinking that I’d finally have a chance to try French macarons. After picking up my order, I noticed right away that they weren’t what I’ve seen others eat. Yes, they looked like some sort of cream sandwiched between 2 cookies but they were flat, the texture was off, and had some butter cream with almonds on TOP? What?! They didn’t taste bad but they weren’t fantastic either. In fact, they were a little too sweet for my taste and I’m actually pretty tolerant toward most sweet things. Google images of French Macarons and you will see what Groves Bakery French Macarons are NOT. Guess I gotta go all the way to Tempe — Essence Bakery to get the real deal.

This cute little bakery just opened. I haven’t tried everything yet but I adore the purple chocolate French Macaroons. I did have a ham and cheese croissant one time and it wasn’t anything special but I think they specialize in more desserts than other pastries. I do adore the service though. One guy nearly burned his hand off trying to warm up a pastry for me and then delivered it with a smile. Another guy saved me from getting attacked and eaten by a giant mosquito. Now that I think about it, I always seem to get in some life threatening danger when I come here. But that’s not a reason to keep coming back. Anyways! I adore this place and this is one starter business that a genuinely hope stays open for a while.
