Gilroy Library

Most reviews are true. This isn’t your wretched library. There are two floors with many study desks to choose from.

We moved to Gilroy from Sunnyvale in December. I LOVE the library here. The Sunnyvale library was so sad, we never went there and always ended up driving farther to use the library. I love that this is so close and easy to get to, never have an excuse for having any fines!
We’ve been in probably half a dozen times. My son is 10, is an avid reader. He loves a variety of books. They have an extensive comic and graphic novel section here. Lots of nonfiction books. Lots of new releases. Just lots to choose from! We always leave with a huge bag. I also think they’re really generous with he amount of time they let you have things checked out for. 3 weeks for most kids movies, they even have video games?! Again 3 weeks for those. Which I think is awesome. It’s nice to try those out to see if they’re worth buying.
We usually come on Saturdays. Been in on both mornings and afternoons. Even though afternoons are busier the library still seems quiet and nice. I’m an avid knitter so I was upstairs raiding the knitting book section last time. My son wanted some leopard gecko books, because we have one as a pet. So we spend significant time upstairs and even though there were lots of teenagers and adults it was quiet. I’m sure there’s bad apples like the other reviewer mentioned. Probably maybe after school hours?
Thank you city of Gilroy for providing an awesome library! :) We are so happy we moved to Gilroy. Love it here.

Love the tables for studying… large tables with outlets and an individual lamp on each for extra light. Problem is there are too many teenage kids with nothing to do so they come to the library as a hangout spot blasting their music and gossiping loudly as people are trying to read or study right next to them. I also have not seen anyone do anything about it. Also, was hoping there would be group study rooms available, not just the silent study room.

Really good library. They have just about everything you need… There are a few things I don’t like, but all in all it’s a good place!

The library has so much to offer! It is super convenient to search for books, dvds and cds that you are interested in on their online website. Then, you can place a hold for the item and the library will send you an email when it is ready for pickup. They also have a 24hr computerized dropbox so you can return your items any time of the day when you are done. Every time that I have been here, the staff has always been super friendly but if you are an anti-​people person, there is also self checkout so you don’t have to talk to another human.

Love the remodeled library! It’s very spacious, clean, and there’s plenty of parking. One of my favorite spots is the community room upstairs where they host activities such as arts and crafts. Lisa Duff organizes the monthly craft events and she is very friendly and always comes up with the cutest (and useful) crafts!

Great new equipment and set up, shockingly rude staff members. One has made me cry on MULTIPLE occasions. For that reason I will not go back – lost my library card and am too uncomfortable to have to talk to the mean one again.

I love this library. I have been going here since I was small and now I’m taking my son here. The remodel was desperately needed and the staff are awesome. The book selection is amazing and I can’t wait to try the audio books. I love this place.

Some staff members are rude. But Mitzie (circulation, downstairs) is so warm and funny she makes up for it.
The book selection is better in Morgan Hill, but that’s just my opinion. When i visit the MH library, I’m inspired to read and I see a lot of books attractively displayed that I’ve read reviews on in magazines and newspapers. (David Sedaris’ latest, Tom Wolfe, Curtis Sittenfeld, etc.)
At the Gilroy library, the «new» section is a LOT of «50 Shades of Grey» and «Hunger Games» and the latest Nora Roberts.
At least I can hop online and put whatever books on hold I want from any branch in the district.

Love the overall environment of the library. It is just great. However the staff is keeping me from a 5 star! As I have heard many young adults have mid treated this beautiful new library. I think it has affected the staff. I went to talk about using one of the conference rooms for a college meeting. I was informed with complete negativity. Not the best service sadly.

I love this new library. It’s a vast improvement over the previous incarnation. I deduct a star, however, because occasionally it can be a haven for a loud and uncouth individuals. I don’t have anything against them; I just can’t focus on reading if the silence is broken.

Beautiful new building with high ceilings and lots of sitting/​reading/​meeting/​studying space. I like going here much better than the old library. There are automated machines to check books out and check returned books in which makes it a really quick trip.
The only thing I wish they had more of is a better DVD selection.

Top of the line brand new modern library. Millions were spent to make it what it is. It’s beautiful. Only one gripe, no Macs? That much money spent you would think they would not settle for less.

Great library, especially after the remodel. Great location, tons of automatic checkout machines that work really well, and helpful attendants.

So, I really loved the old library because I’d always gone to it when I was a kid but a remodel was much needed. And holy moly… did that take place or what?!
The library is so big & modern with dimming lights that sense movement, marble stairs, spacious study rooms, tons of computers & places to chill out & read or get some quiet reading or research time in.
After visiting for the first time since it’s open, I’m reigniting my love for books & learning & will be a frequent visitor. I’m truly in LOVE!

Great library. Brand new, lots of space, easy to use check-​out system. Love it.

This is the best, most modern library I’ve been in. Fabulous place to go when you have some work to do that requires hard thinking and a quiet place to do it. There are many tables on both floors with a light in the middle and plugs for your computer. People are friendly and helpful. There are even quiet study rooms and a computer training lab you can schedule. I like that the kids floor is on floor 1 and the adults is on floor 2. I love kids, but they always forget the ‘be quiet’ rule. This library will be my office extension from now on. Way to go Gilroy!

Gilroy has a permanent public library again! After a few years of demolishing the old library, relocating to a temporary spot on Monterey Street, and constructing the new library, the Gilroy Library had its grand opening celebration on April 28. The new library is pretty sweet. It’s a lovely two-​story building featuring modern architectural features under a traditional Spanish tile roof, a spacious lobby, landscaped courtyard, lounge-​y seats, free computers to use by the hour, free wi-​fi, and lots of books, media, and other reading material (of course!). If you’re itching to use your piece of plastic, leave your credit card at home and have at it with your library card here.
This is easily my favorite new building in Gilroy and it beams with civic pride. Library patrons (or people who use this place to as free day care for your kids): please take good care of this place so it can retain its beauty for years to come!

Really awesome movie selection! WOW! Its huge and they have a massive array of foreign options.
The book collection is really good too for a small library. Check out the new book section that is updated often!
