If you’re going for budget accommodations, this is okay. It’s a really small motel right off the freeway near a Knights Inn, gas stations, and some restaurants(Wendy’s, McDonald’s, and two pizzarias). The room appears clean. The sheets smell fine. It’s fairly quiet given the proximity to the freeway, but the bathroom smelled really weird. It was a combination between new plastic and mold. I woke up unable to breathe, so I think there is a mold issue. Breakfast is included. If you like starch, you will be in heaven. There is cold cereal, oatmeal, waffles, apples, bagels, and muffins. The room has a coffee machine(in addition to the urn in the breakfast room). Angie was at the front desk when I checked in. Service was what it should have been– friendly and prompt. I have an AWD vehicle and it wasn’t winter, so the short steep pitch up to the place was not an issue. I thought it was kinda fun.:)

Nice lodging close to Grayson Highlands Sate Park I was recently on a day trip out in the far western reaches of the state of Virginia on my never-ending quest to climb/hike the summit of all 50 states. I tried for 2 days but was unsuccessful both days in climbing Mt. Rodgers(Virginia’s highest point) and decided to overnight here at the Econo Lodge due to it’s close proximity to the Grayson Highlands State Park only 20 miles to the south of here. Other than being close to the mountain and right off I-85 a lot of the rooms had Jacuzzi’s in them and I was not passing up on using my 20% corporate discount to stay here with one of those in the room. LoL. I ended up with the room located directly above the front office. I was VERY impressed as they had just installed brand new carpeting and it’s was the ONLY hotel room I’ve ever been in with a fireplace in it. All of the furniture looked as if it was recently replaced as well. Love the new carpet smell! I did notice the A/C unit was not working in the room but lucky it was a cooler night so I just opened the window. Yes, I will completely agree with all the other Unilocalers, that the drive up into the Econo Lodge is significantly steep. I don’t know how or if people get stuck trying to climb up it in the winter months but it wasn’t bad without snow. But then it makes an awkward doglegged right turn in the middle of the hill too. **Overall, I was fairly impressed with this business lodging location and accommodations. No I didn’t like the steep drive in but there’s nothing they can change about that now. Bot as for the other rooms I have no clue if they were updated as well. Will definatly say here again when I’m out in the area. Cheers!

This was a weird experience. We booked a room for a king with a Jacuzzi, when we got here we were informed no pets could be in that room. That’s fine, they booked us another room. But when we opened the door, there were aleadtly people in that room. Then they gave US another room, no upgrades just I’m sorry, which is fine but now balmy puppy is covered in fleas. He can’t stop itching for the life of him. If you have pets, don’t come here. I paid $ 12 to give my puppy fleas. I travel coast to coast often enough to k ow that this place is crappy.

DONOTSTAYHERE. Driving through during a snow storm and the freeway closed. Had no choice but to stay. Room was clean(yay!) but the free breakfast was a joke(half bagels & waffle iron only), the heat barely worked in my room, the ice machine was broken(and clearly has been for some time), and worst of all, it is up a winding hill. Management would not even salt the sidewalks from our rooms to the main building, let alone shovel the parking lot. I am with a company that travels in choice hotels all the time so it doesn’t take much to keep me happy, but this is definitely bottom of the barrel. Avoid if at all possible. There is a knight’s inn next door. No idea if it’s better but worth a shot if I’m ever here again.
