AW Shucks

Big thanks to Aw Shucks Country Store! I locked my 2 yr old and myself outside of our vehicle and was making a 2 mile hike back to our house. The owner saw us on the side of the road, sweltering in 80 degree heat, and transported us safely home. What a great neighbor!

I wish that my review of the Aw Shocks, located on Pouncey Tract Rd could be as wonderful as the others listed, but I’m afraid it is not.
The actual property and convenience store is clean, inviting, and offers many local made products, however after two very bad experiences at their food counter, I will never buy premade food from them again.
In both visits (a Wednesday & Saturday) we ordered fried chicken and found it to be so over cooked that the meat was literally dried out and hard. In fact, the chicken legs were so over cooked the meat had separated from the bone and looked like a dried out «chicken lollipop «.
Although I will continue to buy gas, use the awesome car wash, and buy local products from the store, we absolutely will not buy cooked food from their food counter again

Could do a breakfasts made to order, but we love the sausage-​gravy buscuits. Add a side if fried chicken and I’m fat and happy. If you’re there for a cold craft beer, they have a great variety. Today we got a growler filled with Optimal Wit from Alexandria VA. A lively, citrus experience that I will look for again.

What a fun place for super-​casual lunch or dinner. We love to go when the weather is nice and some live music is offered. Mostly comfort foods. Friendly service. Plus, you can pick up some wine or beer at retail prices and they’ll give you a bucket of ice to keep it cold.
Fun. Family friendly. Very casual.
UPDATE: We love this place, especially when there is live music. We consider ourselves regulars now. I’m bumping this up to 5 stars. If you can get over the stigma of this place being behind a gas station, then you’re in for a real treat.

Huge fan. Solid homemade food (breakfast, lunch and diner). Awesome beer selection. Very friendly. Can’t go wrong here. Weather warm? Hang out on the deck!

Good food for a gas station. BBQ is pretty good. Have changed their menu recently and raised prices. BBQ platter use to be $ 7 now its $ 11 for same thing? Have hit or miss music on Thr and Fri, sometimes is loud. Overall is solid choice for quick/​convenient dinner.

What a cool version of the modern country store!
Our good friends sent us to Aw Shucks one evening last year to try the pizza. It was good but more than that we were really taken in by the whole vibe of this place. When we pulled up there was live music playing and the place was packed. You would never know this was a happening eating & meeting place to chill out at.
When you pull up to Aw Shucks, the first thing you see is the Shell gas pumps. Unless you go inside you may never know there is a lot more to this place than initially meets the eye.
We have recently been utilizing the car wash regularly because it is definitely one of the newer and more thorough systems running in this area. The basic wash starts at just 6 bucks which even includes under carriage washing. Your vehicle will be treated to an @50 foot tunnel of soap and wash and rinse and all that good stuff. The end result is good. Also there is an employee who greets you with an optional free vacuum token. That’s a first for me…
I don’t know if this place would really draw people from far away but if you are in the Wyndham area definitely check this place out.

Car wash is great, gas prices are cheaper than most and the country store and restaurant is great as well. Picture a local Wawa, but instead of a coffee area its focus is more on Pizza, sandwiches and bbq. The best part they deliver, and they deliver beer! This place is ok by me!

Wow, you’ve gotta check this place out! What a great concept, borrowing from the old country store style, updating it, hosting live music events, offering delivery of pizza & beer, the list goes on. Oh, let’s not forget all the great microbrews and local wineries represented there. You can even bring in your growler for a fill. I haven’t tried their restaurant or car wash yet, but you can be sure I’ll be hitting those up soon as well.
Oh, and don’t miss out on the West End Farmers Market here on Wednesdays seasonally.

AW Shucks is the perfect country store!
The first thing you notice about the restaurant is that they have a gas pump outside. And then you think, «Oh, it’s a convenience store.» WRONG! Go get something to eat anyway. It is not gas station food. It’s like real restaurant food with the convenience of gas right outside and a store to pick up whatever you need before heading home after dinner.
Their BBQ is to die for! And their BBQ-​cuban? You’ll never want to eat anywhere else again. Everything they make is from scratch. The chef is super awesome!
What else? Oh! Beer, duh! Aside from what they have on tap, you can buy any bottle/​can beer you want (packs or singles) and drink them in the store or on the patio. The selection? You won’t find a better craft beer selection in the Richmond area.
I know, I know. I sound like a sales pitch. Haha. I just love this place so much! I have to stop typing now.

I come here a lot for lunch (I work right down the street). Food is ok, nothing special. Beer selection though is really solid. Car wash is actually pretty good, too. Glad to have a place like this so closeby.

The perfect country store and has station! Really clean and nice customer service. The car wash is nice just bring a towel to dry your car after!
