I still like The Oasis, but today’s sensory deprivation experience was less than stellar, because today, I discovered that The Oasis is not soundproofed… which obviously defeats the purpose of sensory deprivation. There is construction going on next door, and I heard what sounded like furniture being moved and nails being banged into walls. Makes it difficult to relax. So, before you schedule your appointment, you might want to get a construction update.

About time Richmond finally gave birth to its first ever floatation center! I highly recommend for you to check out what The Oasis has to offer! Life can become extremely overwhelming and stressful at times, but a float session can easily melt your troubles away, leaving you completely rejuvenated to a heightened peaceful state. The tank is easy to get in and out of, and is impossible to drown in due to the low(10inch) water level. Upon entering the tank you will float on your back in a bathtub like environment to a zero gravity, weightless state, filled with 1,000 pounds of epsom salt which allows you to float in the water. I personally like to describe it as like laying on your back on a mattress, but without the mattress, using minimal balance to a still point position, as the water takes shape to your body. The sound proof, pitch black darkness and rubber ear plugs all help to eliminate your main senses which are constantly receiving and sending limitless amounts of information to your brain, wether you want them or not! The water in the tank is heated exactly to your body temperature, and after 30 minutes or so your body will begin to slowly drift away as your mind enters a deep state of consciousness. The more you relax, focus on your breathing, and ease your mind, the deeper the experience will be. Tanks are filtered and cleaned after each session. With such a very convenient location near Short Pump Mall and behind Whole Foods off of Broad St, there is plenty of easy parking. Floating can help you achieve a wide variety of phenomenal benefits which have been scientifically proven by research. The art of floating has been around since 1954 when the first tank was invented by John C. Lilly, and its amazing to finally see the industry grow! As a very experienced floater, who has visited numerous locations through out the East Coast. The Oasis is defintely one of my new favorites with such a welcoming staff!
