This place is not just a pharmacy. It’s not just a small-town version of a Walgreens. Nay, this is a gem, the kind of store you just don’t find very often anymore. We were spending a lovely Saturday afternoon wandering the streets of downtown Glen Ellyn and I spotted Schmid. To myself I said, what a cute store. To my husband I said, I bet they have cards and stuff in there. We still need a birthday card for [Friend]. And guess what. We found the perfect card! They also have a nice selection of gifty-ness, from candles to homemade fudge(!!) to other tasty tidbits and glass trinkets. Oh, sure, there’s also a pharmacy counter and your standard-issue drugstore goods. And I was especially charmed by the sign behind the counter detailing their check-taking policies, which basically amount to «ask for ID unless you know the person really well!» It’s not close enough to be our neighborhood store, but I kinda wish it was — and now we know where to look for interesting gifts, cards, and homemade fudge in Glen Ellyn.
