After ordering veal cutlets from these guys, I later came to find out that it was actually pork! Being that people at my table that night were not interested in eating pork, this upset the dinner table. Overall, there is a decent selection of meat, but it does not seem to be of the best quality. My own experience here is limited compared to the other negative things that I have heard in terms of bad practices such as adding preservatives in meats/sausage to make them last longer. After my visit and the other information from reliable sources I have heard, I will not be returning. I left a lot of the vulgar stuff out seen and heard by people close to me, as to not make people reading this review sick to their stomach but please beware when shopping here. I hate to write a negative review, but this was done to protect future consumers and to make sure they at least have a heads up of what they would be getting into, before going in to the store.

Nice little Italian butcher shop. Does the job. Selections can be slim, but they have what the locals cook on the regular.

I was here a week ago and when I walked in the place it smelled of cigarettes. I ordered cutlets and asked the man if he had washed his hands first and he said yes. When I got home my cutlets smelt of tobacco. I was speaking to a friend about this who happens to live behind this meat market and he said he always sees the men smoking out in the back, its filthy with cigarettes. Frankly, I feel that any place that handles food should have cigarettes far away so to think they are smoking throughout the day and then handling the meat is disgusting.

Sorry to say I’ve been making do with supermarket meat for way too long. A trip to gaspare’s brought me back to the days when your meat was cut and wrapped to order. Prices are reasonable, the storekeeps are friendly and knowledgeable, and the meat is top quality. They also stock an assortment of quality ravioli and other Italian staples you won’t find elsewhere. What a find… I’ll be back!

I have never been a fan of our neighborhood’s butchers, but Gaspares has changed my mind. I am so happy they opened just 2 blocks from my home. The butchers are very friendly and really KNOW their meats. They give great advice on which cuts are best for your recipes so don’t be shy in asking them questions. Their meats are excellent. They are cut well and fresh. I love cooking with their meats. They are easy to work with, have no odor, and cook up wonderfully. I also notice a difference in taste, especially with their chicken and chop meat. They also have marinated skirt steak, stuffed breasts, kebabs. Just tried their wings for super bowl and they were far superior to any wing I’ve ever purchased, including the wings I get from Whole Foods. They were clean, meaty and again had none of that odor you get from market wings. I will no longer buy meat from the market. I usually get the package deal and they will happily switch out any meat you don’t like or even add to or subtract from the quantity. They also have cold cuts, fresh salads, marinated olives and offer party heroes. And their prices are comparable to even the cheaper markets. Chop meat is only .50/lb more than my market and their wings were considerably cheaper than any I’ve found during Super Bowl week, at $ 2.49/lb. I guarantee you will not regret trying them out.

I went back and got some of their sweet Italian sausage, hot Italian sausage and sausage with parsley and cheese. All of them were excellent. I’ll be back!
