You won’t find a better deli in town. We’ve tried pretty much all of the cold cuts. My favorite is blood and tongue and my husband likes the smoked turkey. You won’t find a better selection of sausages either. It has a small deli serving sandwiches too. Normally a busy place but the line moves fast and the service is always friendly.

When we were considering moving to the neighborhood there were two things that closed the deal; we were walking distance to both La Cabinita and Schreiner’s Fine Sausages. I’ve been coming to Schreiner’s for years now and I drop in most weekends to stock up on various deli meats for my lunches for the week. Great German salami, Leberwurst, knockwurst etc. All fresh and delicious. The service is friendly, prompt and efficient. Expect a line but it moves fast(see efficient comment). Your cholesterol may not thank you but your stomach will!

My Mom turned me on to Schreiners in the mid 1970’s and I’ve been going there since. They have a great meat counter as well as sandwich counter. My kids have been eating there since they had teeth, even before. The staff is very friendly and the cuts of meat and German style sausages art the best. The Black forest Ham is to die for, the Knockwurst Sandwich is my favorite. This is a third or forth generation business. Thank you Schreiners!

It’s rare to find a place you can get a sandwich for $ 3.80. I came across this place when I was in the area because I had it bookmarked on Unilocal. Once I walked it in, I surveyed the area taking a look at their sausages in the meat case and the other sausages found frozen. They had a variety — the most I’ve seen at this sausage specialist. Even though this is a German market, they also had Portuguese linguica sausages which I was tempted to buy. You see when you arrive that it is home to «the black forest ham.» It was natural for me to order it. At $ 3.80, it was a good sandwich. Not something out of this world and different. It’s a really good ham and cheese sandwich. It brought me back to Europe as I found myself eating a lot of ham and cheese sandwiches on the airplanes there. I also noticed the selection of German beers and Boylan’s sodas. I read that you can only consume the non-alcoholic beverages on site. I ended getting the Boylan’s black cherry soda to go with my sandwich. Knowing that I would not be back in a long while since this is bit of a drive for me, I ordered the tri-tip to go because that was highly recommended by the guy making the sandwiches. I had it at home and it was as good as he said it was. I enjoyed it much more than the black forest ham sandwich. I also bought some Austrian chocolate wafers and German fruit tea which I’ve had in Germany. Loved this place and highly recommend a visit if you like good sandwiches, sausages, and buying German and Austrian products. They even had the Austrian Mozart kugln(marzipan) balls here. Highly recommended!

This is an old school German deli. Oh my goodness I had a heart attack reading another review where the person used the term«umami» multiple times to talk about his food here. Seriously? It’s why so many restauranteurs hate this website. Moving along … Schreiners has a big meat counter with sausages, smoked meats and other meat items. Off to the side they have a deli counter(not a restaurant by any stretch) with a large array of meat choices to put on their very simple sandwiches. I had the smoked ham and added swiss and sauerkraut. It came with pickles and brown mustard, that’s it. It was very good and very traditional. I added a side of German potato salad and a fountain drink — the bill was only $ 8. So before giving this place the full reviewer treatment, take into account the shockingly low cost and ultra traditional concept. It’s fun and I like it.

I came in today and bought Bretzels. They were molded, not the first time, went back 2 hours later and showed them the molded Bretzels. The Cassiar Klodia denied i was in today, she never took the Bretzels, I would have bought a Bunte on Tuesday, no one saw me buying the Bretzels, Missy said I opened it already, I would have bought them 2 days ago, one disaster after the other. I looked when i was at home on my receipt and I bought the Bretzels today and I did bring them back today 2 hours later. So the bretzels must have been there more then 3 or 4 days not very fresh and they are also frozen to begin with. I’ll definitely will not go there anymore, given the fact that they gave me the feeling i’m a liar. The prices are too high, the german products are actually made in this country…

NOTE: I translated this to Swedish for the Unilocal 100 Challenge: Stockholm. For the English version of this review scroll down.

I have had the Schreiner’s Bratwurst during the Montrose Oktoberfest weekend & found the bratwurst rather flat in meaty Umami as well as having a flavour profile that may be too subtle for my palate even w/the addition of sharp Senf/mustard & addition of Sauerkraut/fermented cabbage that helps but does not overcome the general blandness of the Bratwurst. The dead tasting American bread didn’t help either.(Just wondering why is it so hard to get good bread in Southern California.) Not that it is Schreiner’s fault, but the beers at the last Oktoberfest that I had attended were Budweiser, ShockTop, etc. which are totally egregious beers for Oktoberfest when Paulaner, Erdinger, Warsteiner, Bitburger are some of the beers that would pair well with a German Wurst. I had gone to the Red Lion in Silverlake back in summer 2013& had their Bierknacker which was a long thin pork Wurst that was smoked & spiced w/paprika, garlic, white pepper, and had a great pork Umami flavour. So I went to Schreiner to find an equivalent. The nice older German counter person suggested the Spicy Links which are small sausage links which are flecked with dried red chiles. Yes, the piquant heat did augment to the sausage, but the meaty Umami was still subdued, & the spicing beyond the red chiles did not add to the flat meaty flavours. I also spied Bierwurst, & ordered a ¼lb since I didn’t know if I would like it. A younger counterperson gave me a slice to try, but only after she had cut my ¼lb order which I accepted. The Bierwurst was blander & did not piqué my interest. I have been to Deutschland 3 times & stayed for a total of about 2 months, and I have had great Currywurst even at the down home U-bahn station at Nollendorfplatz in Berlin. My lunches on the run, while touring Koenig See, Museum Insel, Neuschwanstein, Binnenalster, Kloster Ettal, Englischer Garten, Schloss Sans Souci, were many times at Schnell Imbiss/fast food joints & their Wuerste were excellent. Not sure why the Wuerste here are so lacking in finer flavours that I found even in the Bierknacker Wurst at the Red Lion. I will have to ask Red Lion where they get their Bierknacker. Wouldn’t it be ironic if they tell me they get it as a special order from Schreiner’s. Schreiner’s, not the worst place to buy Wueste, but for me, not the best either. Perhaps expatriate Germans & Germanophiles treasure this store since there are many other products from the old country that trigger Der Schmaltz in their hearts. For me, A-OK 3 Unilocal stars.

Great experience. Authentic to the T. If you need any type of deli fix this is it. Grabbed a pastrami sandwich with a side of some old times root bear from the fridge and then stopped by the deli for some cold cuts to take home. Definitely a place were everything has flavor with a super nice staff to top it all off. Definitely a new go to spot.

All the meats are made in house and I heard they supply Pinks hotdogs. Great selection of sausages and deli meats. I like coming here for lunch since sandwiches are delicious and cost under 5 bucks. You can also grab some cool German items at the same time.

I finally got to try this place after wanting to try for a while. A cute German Deli with Bratwurst, Polish Sausage, Bologna, Pastrami, beer, cheese, giant pretzels and other groceries. The girls are all dressed in their German outfits. I’m not sure if it’s just for Oktoberfest or if they are always dresses that way, but it was very festive and I liked it. I got some Polish sausage and a big pretzels to go just because I felt that I had to at a German deli lol. Took it home and ate it with beer and it was really good :)

Had not been here for a long time so decided to drop by for lunch. Love the old world charm and foods and they do have good stuff but why microwave your sausages at the deli? Isn’t that what your famous for?

Virtually every negative — 1-Star — review makes an issue out of «no bathroom». No. There is no law that requires a food deli to provide customers with a bathroom. Yes, they have one but not for customer use. Stop complaining, it’s like this in many places — and you know it! The service at Schreiner’s may seem curt or dismissive at times, depending on who’s helping you and how much work they’re inundated with, but it doesn’t appear to be as a result of inherently rude staff. I’ve had my moments were I thought their impression of me was negative, but that may just be my perception, as I’ve had plenty of visits where they’ve been quite pleasant and welcoming. The reviews for the meats seem on par with what you can expect from Schreiner’s. They also have a number of specialty items: chocolates and confectionaries that are hard to find. For a couple of years while building my brother’s house(round the corner) I came here for lunch and had their knackwurst sandwich. It’s pretty simple yet tasty. And the price is pretty good. I recently ventured to Schreiner’s the other day to reminisce with a knackwurst sandwich and can of coke(they now have a fountain) and the tiny lady behind the counter recognized me and engaged in a nice conversation. So it’s unlikely I’ll be visiting Schreiner’s often as I’m rarely in the area. But there will be times I’m jonesing for a knackwurst sandwish or soup, or pulled pork sandwich, etc. and I’m more than happy to get it from Schreiner’s. I’m a fan!

A+ experience all around. Pros: + Prices are very fair. A sandwich at the deli counter is $ 3.50 to $ 6 depending on your fillings. Meats are cheaper than the supermarket, and I can tell they make a lot of their own items in-house(90% according to the video on their site) + Their products are tasty. I enjoyed the samples of Polish Salami and liverwurst, and I bought a 3.5 lb smoked ham hock(!) I can’t wait to make some soup out of. + Great selection of German products, including dozens of mustards, nine types of German pickles, dark rye breads, chocolates, cookies, sauerkrauts, sodas, beers. + I met a very knowledgeable older German lady behind the counter who could answer questions about the various sausage products and their tastes/textures/ingredients + Plenty of free parking in front and out back of the deli. Many places around here charge for parking but Schreiner’s does not. Cons: — No Kaiser rolls for sale — They had run out of a few products by the time I arrived at lunchtime, but such is the risk at a popular place like this that makes products in-house instead of getting them from a freezer truck. — Due to Glendale law, no free shopping bags(not their fault) so bring your reusable bag or be prepared to buy a paper one. Overall a great experience overall and I’m sure I will be back!

Nothing is diviner than Schreiner’s! Great sandwiches(Black Forest ham is my fave), top quality sausages and meats, and all the traditional German chocolate candies and sweets that are essential for a real Christmas celebration. Great service. Prices are reasonable, to say the least, especially for the quality. And it’s nice to hear conversational German spoken in L.A. German-language periodicals and other items(soaps, etc.) in addition to a small beer selection are available. Prost!

Great prices and good service. Definitely a one of a kind shop. Knockwurst are like a hot dog on steroids, but in a good way. Nice snap with every bite. Don’t forget a good quality mustard as well. Beer brawts are great. They have some flavor infused links as well. Nothing crazy. It definitely is one of those places that you can get some quality meats, take to a BBQ, and have everyone asking you what it is and where you got it. Can’t wait to work our way through all the selections.
