I had a blast over the weekend at Sur La Table. I didn’t have the chance to shop i wished that i would have, but then this would be a totally different review then wouldn’t it?. I was signed up for a Mediterranean cooking course and the chef was nice enough to allow my daughter to tag along. The store is actually a store with so many culinary goodies, i couldnt refrain at times. The actual kitchen is in the rear of the store. I have never cooked in such a good kitchen and believe me it was an experience. I loved it! The course was comprised of a app, an entrée and a desert. Grilled Feta Stuffed Grape Leaves — Fattoush Summer Salad — Chicken Souvlaki with Tzatziki — Baklava Ice Cream. The class is completely hands on. Lots of the work such as measuring was already done prior to us arriving. The instructors were awesome and they engaged with my daughter so well. There were two instructors one guy one lady. Both were professional, helpful and courteous. You actually use the appliances, learn techniques, your taught knife work, the whole 9. I was able to learn things that i never knew and i feel my best when im in the kitchen seeing that i love to cook. Would i go back? For sure i would! my daughter was so impressed and she is an aspiring cook at the ripe old age of 7. If she can be engaged for 3 hours while standing? They are good in my book! At the end of the class you get a packet with recipes as well as a 10 percent off coupon.

I HIGHLY recommend grabbing your friends and signing up for one of the fabulous cooking classes at «Sur La Table»! This was definitely one of the best ‘girls day out’ we had in a long time(and lucky for us, we do plenty). Our instructor, Chef Mike, was amazing. Not only was it obvious that this knowledge and skills were top notch, but his patience, sense of humor, and his ability to get both the novice and experienced comfortable and excited about cooking was a wonderful attribute.(Not to mention the food was incredible). If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. Oh, and the shop in itself would be worth visiting. Whether you’re a cook, a baker, both, or neither, you’ll definitely find something here — it’s a kitchen wonderland.

Cooking lessons. I’ve been tossing around the idea for years of going back to school for culinary arts and this year I received a gift for a one time lesson. Sur La Table offers a variety of different cooking classes — starting with your basic«How to Cook Everything» lessons to specific cuisine types. I attended the one time«Meatless Meals» — The class consisted of 8 people(from my understanding this was small compared to their usual 16). A menu was prepared ahead of time of what we would be cooking. Our instructor was helpful and explained to us different knife techniques as well as how different ingredients worked together. And of course, the food was delightful. One thing I did find to be tricky was the balance of asking questions and not feeling rushed for time. You’re on a schedule, people, and food needs to be prepared! Two beefs(ha, food joke) about the class: 1) The price. I caught a glimpse of the price and expected that we would be able to take some of the food with us. Instead, we were only able to try small plates. 2) Cooking in groups. The class was set up so that you cook in a team of four. For this price, I was hoping for an experience where I could do a good chunk of the work myself. I feel like I missed out on some of the learning experience since the work was delegated among the group. The cooking lessons definitely cater(not in the buffet sense) toward those looking to become more comfortable in the kitchen. For those hesitant, the instructor does a good job at making you feel comfortable and makes the experience less intimidating. Okay… About the store. I’m pretty sure I could spend hours looking at all the neat kitchen supplies they have in house. SLT has tons of gadgets you never thought you needed until you realize how an $ 8 appliance could change how you remove the outer skin from garlic. I’m still in awe. Cutting boards, pots, pans, espresso machines, etc. etc. You’ll find almost anything that belongs in the kitchen here. If you decide the lessons aren’t for you, at least check out the store front and start cooking!

My fiancée and I had a great time at this place! We did the early morning $ 5 French cooking lesson. Who doesn’t love Yukon potatoes in duck fat with chicken things cooked in mustard sauce for breakfast?! In just one hour I felt as though I learned more about cooking than on any Bobby Flay type show that I always find myself watching. On my way out I picked up a sweet ice cube mold for those huge perfectly square cubes you get at swanky bars these days. Old fashioned anyone? A few months prior we did one of their«Date Night» cooking classes and had a ton of fun. All the people were friendly and the food was great. The class was a little long, about 2.5 hours but it flew by because of all the wine they gave us! :) The Date Night class was about $ 70 a person but I felt it was worth it. Overall, they have great cooking classes and all our kitchen needs at this place.

My friend and I signed up for a canning cooking class because we’d heard great things. We paid hefty sum for a class that was barely hands on and only made half the recipes on the menu. The ones the instructor did make did not follow the recipes in the handout. The only thing we were allowed to take home was a jar of pickled fennel(well, mine was mostly fronds — it had five strips of fennel in it). I didn’t learn anything new about canning, and I’ve only helped my mom in the past so I’m no expert. The upsides: The instructor and assistant were nice and approachable, and the jar I got to take home is really cute. I love that Sur La Table features these classes, and the rest must be better than this one or the program would’ve ended long ago. In this case, there was a lot of confusion about the class(a guy called earlier in the day to double-check what time I thought the class was), most of the produce we needed wasn’t available, and the instructor was filling in for someone else — another guy’s name was on the handout. He seemed to be doing this class for the first time and couldn’t answer some of our questions. From now on, my friend and I will stick to the classes in the city parks system.

You should get a group of friends together and sign up for a class! It was a lot of fun and you leave with some great tips and tricks, plus i enjoyed the opportunity to ask questions about methods and various products. And then I bought this new pepper grinder that i really like. Its blue and has a handle, best grinded pepper i e’er did see! This is kinda like target for me, i can’t seem to leave this store without buying something!
