The best sushi in the area, hands down. Don’t be fooled by the aging façade, this is the freshest sushi I’ve had in Glens Falls. My wife and I came in here by accident as the sushi place we usually go to is now closed on monday, We wanted sushi really bad so we decided to give Mikado a try. We were blown away. Did not expect that level of authenticity, freshness, or service. We are sold, Mikado is our new«go to», sushi restaurant whenever we are in Glens Falls.

New chef and new lease on life. Great sushi and the spaz has left the building.

I’ve been coming to this restaurant for many years and have nothing but great things to say about the food. Mikado has the best Sushi in town by far. This place may not have the aesthetics of an ultra fancy modern design but I would rather eat here than all of the Sushi places in Saratoga Springs. Danny has slowly developed experimental specials over the years into the innovative, versatile menu they have today. There is always a roll for everyone. Although I no longer live in the Capital Region, I always make plans to stop in when I am visiting my family to recapture all of my favorite rolls. Note: A lot of these reviews are a little outdated(and some poorly written english). Mikado is a family restaurant but staffing changes in the front of house happen. It is a complex menu to learn but the waitresses have always been friendly. A lot of the time these Unilocalers spend waiting for their food on the weekend is due to the unbelievable amount of takeout orders and loyal weekend customers.

Sushi roll selection is great, but the restaurant needs a remodel… Last time I ate there my table shook it was so beat up, and the drinks left something to be desired. Overall I like the food, but usually skip it bc of the atmosphere.

I eat sushi quite frequently. Not all that great. Took forever to get what I ordered & when it arrived I was very disappointed with the quality. Will not return.

We were looking for a hibachi place to eat and there are not that many around here. We had heard that Mikado was a great place so we ignored the outside and decided to try it. The first impression is that the place needs to be cleaned. They have a lot of stuff and it looks like they haven’t dusted it or wiped things down in a while. Even their picture frames on the wall have scratched plastic instead of glass. We decided to stay anyhow and when we got to the hibachi table we were the only ones there. The walls were a nasty yellow color from all of the grease int he air and not being cleaned, the wall decorations again looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in a long time either. The food was good. The sushi rolls were decent but not the best that I have ever had. The hibachi was good as well but again nothing special. With all of the sushi places in the area I don’t think that we will come back.

Best sushi in town. Food is fresh, the flavors are well balanced and textured. The staff is very pleasant. Décor is lackluster and a little off-putting.

Didn’t realize there was a Korean-Japanese place in South Glens Falls. Went there for dinner with the extended family after seeing the other Unilocal reviews. Like a lot of the other reviews, I also didn’t think too much for the interior and wasn’t interested in the hibachi. I ordered the sushi boat for 5 people, which we shared amongst 6 adults. Enjoyed most of the fish that was served, except for a few pieces. Also tried their bulgogi, which I thought was a little too sweet and would have tasted better if it had been grilled. Despite a few minor shortcomings, I was still excited to see something more than a Chinese fast food place available and hope to go here again.

Don’t judge the book by the cover here. If you are looking for NYC style place where only the chairs and paint matter and you want to waste $$$ don’t visit. If you want the best sushi in the Adirondacks at a fair price plus the ability to enjoy authentic Korean food them you should absolutely stop in. Danny is the best sushi chef and the staff is friendly and customer service oriented. I personally love trying new food and there is always something unique to taste. I travel for a living and Mikado /Danny’s sushi is something I look forward to coming back for. Remember always trust the locals opinion of restaurants.

I’ve been going to mikado for 12 years. I’ve never been disappointed. The sushi outstanding. I’ve been to nobu and nobu next door in NYC. I always find myself craving mikado sushi. My family and friends love their hibachi tables and the waiters and waitress are awesome. And when mikado gets busy the staff does the very best to accommodate everyone. They have been around for more than the 12 or so years ‚(I think) but my family and I have been going since my son was 4. He’s now 18. and yes they may need some paint but I promise you, you’ll never notice once the food hits your mouth!

Restaurant hours said closing at 10:30PM. Saturday night, drove out there at 9:15 they said they closed early:/ What a waste of gas and time. Restaurant is a storefront location so no private parking.

Went for lunch. Hibachi was good. Show was ok. Yaki Noodle wasn’t great. Price was good. Waitress was very nice. Place smelt bad and didn’t feel very clean. Saw several flies.

Not bad. Went there tonight for the first time and didn’t have my hopes up. Ordered a bunch of sushi — all of which was very fresh and good quality. I didn’t have enough courage to order the uni… maybe some other time, though(since that’s a true test of a Japanese place to me). The salmon sushi was excellent… the yellowtail and white tuna were also very good. Scallop — not bad. Mackerel– surprisingly good. Ikura and Masago — decent. We had 3 rolls: Mexican, Young(both specialty) and salmon/avocado. The avocado was perfect and smooth… my only complaint was that some of the seaweed was a bit chewy. That’s a big pet peeve of mine. The salad in the beginning was simple… the ginger dressing was OK — I have had better. The steamed shrimp shumai was good — just the right texture and fishiness. We ordered hot tea– I really liked that a pot was brought for the 2 of us. The service was very good. it took a little while for the sushi(and one of the rolls was missing), but the waitress was friendly, quick and efficient. The interior could use a face lift, but there is a lot of seating. I’ll definitely go back to try some of the Korean fare… the menu is quite extensive and includes lots of cooked alternatives for the sushi-phobic. There are hibachi tables in the back… if you’re in a festive, social mood(and you don’t mind having food thrown at you…). :).

Yes«I’ve experienced better». The inside is of this place is dull and out dated. The sushi didn’t seem fresh but the prices were cheap. I guess you get what you pay for. I will be back if im on a budget but for a few more dollars I will go down the road.

I’m giving 5 stars because our server Jill was prompt attentive and accurate… And because the tempura udon noodle soup was the best Ive ever had… No exaggeration here. I have high standards with food and the blend of flavors in this soup were outrageous. The portion is hardy as well. If you come across this place make sure you order this soup! Cheers Pete

I just got take out lunch from here last week. Two rolls for $ 15, a treat but not an extravagant one. I got the spicy salmon roll with added avocado and a shrimp tempura with cucumber. I was glad to see white ginger and not the artificial pink! I will definitely come back for more.

Bottom Line: Tasty and affordable sushi near Saratoga but service execution leaves a little to be desired. I can’t deny that I greedily gobbled each $ 6 – 8 roll, savoring the copious amount of sea creature flesh on each crafty slice. Designer sushi is fairly common and the flavors here are well put together and please the mouth. Add in a monster liter of the Beer for All Seasons(Asahi) and you have a solid meal. The variety is excellent and ordering is simply checking off what you want on an order form. My friend has never had a problem customizing her rolls due to a severe case of mayo aversion. The miso soup is hot and full flavored but doesn’t shoot off fireworks with every gulp. But when you throw in the fairly slow service(I can’t imagine the speed of service if there were more than a handful of patrons) and a predominately family atmosphere, it’s hard to say it’s best sushi experience I’ve had. The people are nice and want you to have a nice experience but the benefit of slowly spending time, chatting with friends, should be an option and not a necessity. But are neon lights and trance music in the background really necessary? Street parking is close by and seemingly always available. Glen’s Falls is a short jaunt from Saratoga. It’s not pretentious but good, honest sushi. I like to think of Mikado’s as a neighborhood joint; you just stroll in, relax, and have a friend make you some food. And you wouldn’t feel bad if you ate there in pajamas.

Since I first started going there, Mikado’s has been through three changes of ownership(at least!) It’s easily the most bought and sold restaurant in town. Although the menu and environment don’t change much with each iteration, the food has had many subtle changes over time; however, that being said, Mikado is probably the best hibachi in a hundred miles and easily trumps similar restaurants in Albany, Saratoga, or Lake George. The grill style food is really the highlight here, although the sushi is good as well. My personal favorite are the split-dish meals. It’s essentially a three course meal for under $ 30; served with miso/broth soup, a delightful ginger salad, and entrées come with a vegetable medley and a choice of white or friend rice(which my brother enjoys so much he orders two sides to go every time we visit). The wait-staff and chefs are friendly and the setting is clean, but the décor isn’t the star attraction here. The environment is dim and quiet, which the exception of the hibachi tables which can get to be quite the ruckus. In addition to the regular bar there’s also a selection of saké, although as one would expect due to the location it’s not phenomenal. A surprise awaits though in a very generous and well thought out selection of Japanese and Asian beers. For the most part I like hibachi because it’s simple, warm, and always flavorful food prepared in a very social setting. Benihana style hibachi may have its fair share of detractors, but if it appeals to you, Mikado has some of the best around.
