Recently my fiancé and I drove over to Glenwood to get out of Denver and do some hiking for a weekend, and we really lucked out getting one of the two rooms here. Liza’s breakfasts were really spectacular — if I had brunch that good at a fancy restaurant I’d give it a great review. On Sunday morning, after making sure that all of the guests liked rhubarb, she cooked up two different breakfast pastries with fresh rhubarb from her garden. Our room was very thoughtfully outfitted(makeup mirror, hairdryer, robes, great towels for showering & also a set for taking to the hot spring, which is a 5-block walk from the B&B) and full of pretty antiques. The house was full of flowers cut from Liza’s beautiful gardens, and has a hottub out back which was a nice option when we got in late Friday night since the hot spring closes at 10:00. I would go back in a heartbeat and definitely recommend this little place to anyone else who passes through Glenwood.(PS — Whitney W’s review below all sounds accurate to me except that there is fast wireless now.)

My fiancé and I have now stayed here twice, and if we ever visit Glenwood again, I’m sure we’ll choose Best Kept Secret once more. There really is no comparison between a good B&B and a hotel. That personal touch — the kind innkeepers David and Liza are so practiced at — is what makes B&Bs unique. The accommodations: I cannot speak for The Study, since we have stayed in The Boudoir both times. But The Boudoir is cozy and spacious at the same time. I love that you have your own little hallway leading to the huge bathroom. The bed and sheets are comfortable. The bathtub is nice and big, although it did take us a few minutes to figure out how to turn on the showerhead. There’s a nice view of the backyard from the bedroom. The amenities: In the backyard are bikes and helmets you can use anytime. In the dining room, there are always little treats around… granola bars, mint candies, almonds, and of course, hot water and a great selection of teas. There were even chocolates in our room! The little shampoos and soaps in the bathroom are more than standard… they are made by a company Liza is somehow associated with(you’ll have to ask her). They all smell delicious, and you can order big bottles to take home with you! They’re a little pricey, but for me, it was worth it. If you have to use the computer, you can either hook up your own or use the laptop in the dining room. The connection is so slow it’s hardly worth it, but it’s nice to know it’s there. The innkeepers also provide you with discounts and coupons to local restaurants and attractions, like the Vapor Caves and Hot Springs Pool. The house: Old and Victorian. The floors creak a little when you walk around in your room or in the dining room. It always made me afraid I’d disturb other guests late at night, but it also adds to the charm. The furniture is beautiful and it’s just like staying at a relative’s house. There are also the standard B&B pets… a very friendly dog and a fat, fluffy, adorable cat.(I personally think that no B&B is complete without at least one pet.) The house is extremely close to downtown Glenwood, and you can walk to pretty much anywhere… even Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park! The breakfast: delicious and personalized. The day before you are presented with a menu of sorts, and you can choose whatever you want. You can either have the special(something like spinach feta omelets or blueberry pancakes), eggs cooked your way with fried potatoes, or homemade cereal. You also have your choice of bread and fruit, and breakfast always comes with orange juice, tea, and coffee. You definitely won’t need lunch after this breakfast! The innkeepers are very accommodating with special requests, like vegetarian meals. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the Glenwood area who wants a relaxing, wonderful experience! The innkeepers are gracious and knowledgeable and make your stay very memorable.
