The hike is beautiful. You hike along the creek and then up for some magnificent views. Hanging Lake was way too crowded so I stopped here instead, and it was spectacular and NOT crowded! I hiked about four miles and then turned around(hikers I met on trail told me there was a bear ahead). I believe you can go at least six miles one way. It’s well worth it!

This is a spot worth making if you’re driving through! After driving endless amount of hours, we decided to make a pit stop. You honestly can’t tell just how open and gorgeous this stop is, prior to the exit sign, so I would highly recommended adding this place to your itinerary. They also have bathrooms located near the middle of the area and a grassy area for pups to do their business. We noticed a bus pulling rafting boats, along with bike paths and scenic spots. I’m definitely going to make sure to stop by and spend a little bit more time here, if we come back this way.

Grizzly Creek is in the most beautiful stretch of the I-70 through Glenwood Canyon on the eastern side of Glenwood Springs. It is a rest stop at Milepost 121.02, but it is so much more than that. There is a bike path you can ride on that follows the river for miles and miles. You also have direct access to the Colorado River. There are so many rafting companies that launch their rafts here as well as the daring people with their yaks who just jump in on their own. There is also a hiking trail, but I was just passing through and did not have time to hike. Next time I visit Colorado in the summer I am going to stay in Glenwood Springs and either take a rafting trip down the Colorado River, explore the hiking trails or ride bikes along the path. Here is an interesting little bit of trivia. The portion of the 1 – 70 that goes through Glenwood Springs is one of the most expensive highways per square foot in the United States at a cost of about 490 million and funded by the federal government. It is probably the prettiest strech of highway I’ve ever seen because it is built on cantilevers and it follows the Colorado River through the canyon. I would highly recommend stopping in Grizzly Creek if you are traveling east or west through Glenwood Springs.
