Alexandra’s Bread

Stopped in to get some cookies and bread. A small butique bakery with gifts too. Got 3 cookies and a small loaf of bread. All for 6 bucks. What a deal!

The scones are A-​Mazing! The bread, as good as any I’ve had in France! Don’t be afraid of the price, it’s WELL worth it & deserving of every penny!!!

Yum! The chocolate and cream cheese brownie bites are amazing! They’re really dense and rich, so one is plenty filling. Also, the people working at the store were wonderful– so helpful and sweet!

The French baguette (and French bread roll) are as close to a real French baguette as it gets… A smidgeon sweeter-​which I like! the crust and texture of the interior as well as the taste is fantastic and worth driving from Ipswich to get!

Absolutely incredible bread… go early or you will be disappointed; however even the day-​old is great. Even in the WINTER they bake for the holidays but you have to put in your order in advance or you’ll be shut out again and even MORE disappointed! Great little shop for kitchen items including some nice vintage pieces.
(If parking on street is full, take your first left after the store and another left into the parking lot.)

Alexandra’s Bread has some unreal bread, but make sure to get there early! It goes fast. (You can order in advance, if you don’t want to take the chance that they’re out of what you want!). The Olive loaf and the Cranberry scones are unreal. The Cranberry Scones are light and moist – different than a traditional dry scone, but they’re just amazing. I saw that another reviewed said to buy extra and freeze them, I might have to try that next time! Great idea! And the olive load. Whoa. It’s this gorgeous baguette, with kalamata olives dotting the top. They’re generous with the olives, which makes these such an awesome indulgence. Every time I’m in the neighborhood I try to get some. The regular bread (cobbles, etc.) is great too, just don’t miss out on those two items. The rest of the story is kitschy and cute. Lots of oil cloth and Cape Ann type stuff.

Everything is great here. I recommend getting the cranberry scones in bulk and freezing them so that you can pop them in the oven/​toaster/​microwave while you’re still in your PJs watching Saved by the Bell before work. Is there any better way to start the day?
Minus one star for the sparse display. Whenever I go in (usually around lunch time) there are only a few scones left (if any) and an assortment of cobbles – nothing else. Beef up the display and they’d get a whole lot more «dough» from me! (I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist.)

EDIT: I was extremely confused about some details when I first wrote the review. I’ve submitted a (final! really!) update to the main listing.
I’d heard about the truck, but never managed to visit it. When Ned’s moved in to co-​occupy the space at Alexandra’s Bread, I was totally blown away! They carry a stunning collection of artisan cheeses (locally produced as well as European imports), well displayed in a case to the left as you walk in. On the center table you’ll find samples to try, crackers, and some really awesome looking pepperoni and salami. To the right, preserves and pasta sauce and other delicious-​looking things (note: NOT a place to visit if you are already hungry).
I am currently eating a small hunk of cave-​aged raw milk cheddar from France, part of a fresh baugette, and honey from Gloucester bees and wow, all I can say is that I had no idea this little gem was right under my nose all this time, a stone’s throw from Common Crow.
They are planning on opening up in their new location on 10 April, and I can’t wait.

I just had a cranberry scone at Alxandra’s Bread, amazing. I usually prefer muffins over scones but the scone was more of a cross between a muffin and a scone. The still warm scone was soft and flavorful similar to a muffin and was loaded with cranberries. A scone purist or connoisseur might prefer a scone drier or harder but the scone was perfect for me.
