House of the Raven

The House of the Raven is your standard jewelry and collectibles shop aimed at tourists in downtown Gloucester. Unique nautical themed items? Check. Interesting jewelry? Check. Cards, prints, post cards, candles– you get the idea– check, check, and check. What sets the House of the Raven apart is the quality of merchandise for sale. You won’t find dinky trinkets or jewelry that looks like it’s going to fall apart if you wear it more than once. Everything is great quality. And, you will find some unique items mixed in with the candles and mermaid prints.
The prices are on par with other shops in downtown Gloucester and Rockport. If you’re a local, you’re less likely to buy something here unless it’s a really unique item (like most of their jewelry). You can get the same candle at the mall for less money. I think if you’re a tourist though, you’re going to be drawn to the unique items like the mermaid prints or the cool rings. You can buy a postcard anywhere along Main Street, but some of the jewelry items you will never find anywhere else.
My main complaint is the staff. They are not helpful. In some places, the staff hovers over you and you’re never able to really look. It’s the opposite here. You have to practically jump up and down and wave your arms to get anyone’s attention at the jewelry counters. And, sometimes you have to wait for someone to notice you when you want to pay which is a big turn off for me.
So, if you are visiting Gloucester then by all means please give the House of the Raven a chance. I think you’ll find something unique and appealing, no matter what kind of item you’re looking for.
