Oh mister donuts you have not changed a bit since the last time I’ve had you…20 years ago. These are not the best donuts I’ve ever had but the taste of these donuts bring back childhood memories. I personally enjoyed their donut holes more than any of the other donuts. There was not much of a selection around noon. Most were sold out. These donut holes gave me some major indigestion that lasted until 6AM the next day. I guess I haven’t had sweets/oily foods in awhile.

I am a regular at Mr. Donut. Hands down the BEST donuts around. We probably go here at least 2 times a week and sometimes on the weekend as well. Atmosphere is nice, like an old town donut shop and very clean. When you work with the public you should smile and say good morning– the customer should not have to say the first words or just have to start saying what they want with no greeting. The weekend crew that is younger is always more up-beat and friendly.

This Mister Donut is the oldest store in the franchise in the state of Illinois. I was there to pick about 3 dozen for the residents. The lady behind the counter was friendly, she knew what kind I needed and I felt the price was not bad. $ 20 for 3 dozen…

LOVELOVELOVE! Having lived in Japan for five years, I was no stranger to Mister Donut. However, I wasn’t certain it existed in the states. When I found out that the last remaining Mister Donut in the United States just so happened to be in the area my husband was from, I knew for sure we were going there. I was thrilled to see a donut shop with that old school feel… the kind my dad used to take me to when I was a little girl. The kind that had a case full of donuts and you just picked from that. Not all of the«create your own» stuff that’s all the rage right now. Don’t get me wrong, that’s great too… but sometimes you just want an honest to goodness, old school donut shop. And that is exactly what this is.

Well, I knew it wasn’t like the Mister Donuts you’d find in Asia but I had to try it out for myself. It looks like a regular donut place. The old fashioned is pretty much like a regular donut that’s glazed… and it’s VERY sweet. I asked the lady what her favorite was and she said the toasted coconut which turned out to be pretty yummy. There wasn’t much selection but it was also Monday afternoon.

Love this place. I always have a fun time listening to the good old boys complain about taxes, the roads, the kids, and whatever else they believe is wrong in the world. I think it’s kind of funny they have wi-fi — I’m not sure how often that would get used — but I appreciate that they have it. The food isn’t anything super special, but it’s not bad, and I enjoy having the biscuits and gravy and many cups of coffee. If you like their unique curvy coffee mugs with the sweet vintage mustachioed baker logo(which I do), know that they’re on sale. I live in New York and drink from my Mister Donut mug all the time. No telling how long this kind of operation will keep going given that Altonians go to mom and pop places less and chain restaurants more, but I intend to keep going each time I visit my hometown. And after that I’ll still have my mug.

A great mom & pop donut shop. Staff is friendly and the coffee is strong and fresh. When visiting a new donut shop I judge them on two basic donuts, Chocolate Long John and Glazed Donut Holes and Mister Donut does them right. The LJ was moist and the chocolate icing was perfectly smeared end to end. I’ve been a sucker for holes since I was a child. I really love them now, eating a couple holes satisfies my cravings for an entire donut. I noticed they offer other breakfast items as well, especially Biscuits and Gravy. I may have to leave for work a little extra early some day and see if they are worthy of being on my Biscuits and Gravy List.

It’s a great place to fill your comfort food and sweet tooth cravings. There day olds are awesome to. The owner is really nice and fun. I buy there donuts in bulk for my husbands work and they are gone in minutes. The only complaints would be there biscuit and gravy set up takes to long. They are very good but get cold very fast. The other would be a lot of donuts do taste almost the same but there muffins old fashion donuts and especially the blue berry, oh the blueberry o rich and extremely strong taste.

New ownership a few years back, and its never been the same. For good and bad. First the bad. They changed the cream filling in the long johns. Me not like so much. I remember when I discovered these around the age of 8 or 9. I had always gotten them without filling because I tried custard once and wanted to vomit. Mrs. Weaver showed me the ways. Still a decent donut however. The old fashioned is the way to go here! One of the best I have ever had. Blueberry is also a very solid choice. The vanilla iced cake and double chocolate do not dissappoint. And I have never been huge on jelly donuts, but they are standard here. The glazed is one donut I will never order here. Dukes has a monopoly in Alton on those bad boys. The owner is awesome though. Once we went just after 5 when they opened and he gave us a hot glazed donut, and I feel like he may have done it on one other occasion. I believe he has also given me free biscuits and gravy before as well. I believe this is because once I ordered some and I told the girl helping me that I wanted them to go and we ended up sitting at a table in the store. He wanted me to eat them on a real plate, so the next time they were on him. They are very good, but may order one of the breakfast sandwiches next time. Not the same since they had chocolate milk in the school lunch cartons. In bottles now…
