Stopped in for lunch after skiing. Place very clean, staff was friendly and our lunch was tasty. Kids menu had lots of great choices, slightly disappointed with daughters single chicken strip for lunch but nothing to take away from an overall positive experience. Finished off lunch with a pumpkin and banana cream pie both were delicious and the portions we great. We will be back next time we are in Gold Bar.

The Big Chief bowl… is second to none! I’ve been eating here for years. Always great always full. A valley staple for years.

Solid classic diner fare. Four people and we all agreed our food was delicious. I had the chicken spin salad and the dressing was yummy!!! We had very good service, would come back for that! We came over Stevens pass on a yucky, detoured snowy January night and showed up hungry with 10 minutes until closing time. Our waitress was as kind and sweet as if we were her first table of the night. I also overheard her giving(and then writing in detail) directions for the next table over. Great place.

This place has had many downs in the last few years. Often there were ants running around the dining area, and not small ants, like full on carpenter ants that are the size of wasps. The breakfast is amazing, and so is the CBLT wrap, but the question of how your food got to your plate is too big of a question for me anymore here.

Perfectly acceptable breakfast. The portions were not so big that we left behind food. The service was very good. They were accommodating for our picky daughter.

This is my favorite place in town! Best breakfast in the whole valley. I always get the eggs Benedict or Philly dip.

I have to say this place has yet to have let me down. No matter when I have gone in or what I have ordered. The waitresses are great, friendly and awesome. Other then a few times my coffee cup was empty for a bit, however they were busy when this has happened. Everything from their breakfasts to their dinners have been great. And some of those desserts that spin temptingly around and around in that case in the middle of the room while you are eatting and enjoying your meal. Everything is good.

Very cute, very PNW. Exactly what I would expect of a road side diner. Try the grilled cheese– very yummy!

Came in here to eat. Bus boy took our drink orders but told me I had to wait for the waitress because he’s underage unable to serve me alcohol while others got their drink I waited approximately 15 minutes and I decided I did not wait my drink anymore and told her that because i waited 15 mins now i don’t want it. she said with an attitude that it wasn’t that long and scoffed at me and gave me my drink. It’s not busy in here at all either. I work in customer service and I know never talk back to guests and I would immediately apologize for the wait. But she had an attitude problem. I wouldn’t be back but the food is decent and convenient to stop in after a long weekend trip.

Stopped in for breakfast. Great food, friendly service. Had eggs, sausage, hash and a pancake. All on point. Our 8 month old loved the eggs. Fresh made food for a very reasonable price. Stop in and grab a bite next time your on hwy 2.

I have been here a few times and it really is hit or miss. The only thing I like is the club sandwich with onion rings. My husband orders the chicken fried steak with fries. He said the chicken fried steak is good and the fries are pretty good if you order them crispy. The pies are good. My favorite is blackberry a la mode. The service is lacking unless it is Jamie. She is very personable and very attentive to making sure we have a good experience. The sad thing is we are locals so you would think all of the staff would show us consistent hospitality.

Always wanted to try this place boy what a disappointment. Stopped before heading up to Leavenworth on a Friday evening. Was told by the waitress soup of the day was homemade clam chowder. It was the worst I’ve ever had not even edible. I had chicken fried chicken and the gravy was almost congealed apparently from sitting too long under a not hot heat lamp. My girlfriends vegetables we’re drowning in a bowl of melted butter. When we asked for a free meal were told no and then asked for a discount off just one and told no. The waitress and perhaps owner told us her cash register could not do this! What she did offer us was a homemade dessert to go. Later that evening when we ate it was delicious but I guarantee you it wasn’t homemade from that place. We guess that it came from down the road from the Sultan bakery!

Good old café food and experience. I ordered the light eaters #1. It was just perfect in every way. The service was good, pleasant clean atmosphere. I almost went to a more popular spot down the highway, where there’s enormous portions, and costs more. I don’t need to eat like a pig, so was much happier here.

This is my standard Highway 2 stop for dinner after hiking, and it always hits the spot. Chicken fried steak and a Coke!

Looks like a straight-up old school traditional diner from the outside. Similar on the inside. I love that about a place… Going inside, it is a typical diner setting. I slid up to the bar and ordered a coffee and perused the breakfast menu. Too many offerings I like at a joint like this, I finally settled on corned beef hash and eggs, a deliciously unhealthy offering. I hoped for amazing, but got something closer(if not) to canned. It was okay, but a little disappointing. Eggs fine, biscuit decent. Coffee average, but slow to come considering I was the only one at the counter. Not terrible, but not something I feel like I’d return to unless someone else requested it.

The waitress here was very nice and accommodating. The water however tastes like dirt and I was served three shrimp with a small shrimp basket for $ 9. Next time I’ll wait till I’m back in Seattle for some post hiking food.

It’s rare that I would give a one star review, but, Yuck! Diner food is simple and should always be reliable, here it seems they have lost their way, probably following the frozen food trend. I had the vegetable hash. It was mushy and had no flavor – I don’t think they even used salt and pepper, much less anything interesting. I could barely finish it without the help of ketchup and tabasco sauce. As reported, service is insanely slow, they even warn you on the specials board as you walk in. Staff was nice, as well as the regulars(shout out to the foxy, novel reading, beer with breakfast, big-hearted, town bartender!). Ambiance: none to speak of.

Stopped by for lunch yesterday after a hike to Lake Serene/Bridal Veil Falls with the Everett Mountaineers. The food was great and the place was clean. The service was good and the pumpkin pie is very good! Thanks. DrD

The diner experience is typified by friendly service, bottomless coffee and greasy food. Since the best of diners and the worst of diners share 95% of the same menu it’s difficult to say to the diner is defined by food. The appeal comes in the nuance of the rotating pie fridge, whether your waitresses name is Flo or Madge and and whether Flo/Madge call you honey or sugar. Server was blah, food was average and that intangible experience was pretty absent. Oh, and they charged me for a coffee because I brought in my own from the stand in the parking lot-maybe in Alabama but not a great policy in WA. Insult to injury: the server came by and filled my double charged mocha with folgers, making my now $ 7 coffee a weird mess. Bummer of a breakfast.

Cute diner out near the mountains. There is a glass case with rotating pies in the middle of floor that look oh so good. My friends and I were initially drawn in by the barbeque advertisements. I am actually not a huge fan of barbeque so I opted for something else, fried chicken! The fried chicken dinner came with soup, toast, and choice of potatoes(baked, mashed, hash browns). The soup was something like vegetable beef(not sure if there was beef) but the soup was good! And sadly probably the best part of my meal. The fried chicken had gravy on it, but I noticed something wrong immediately when served: the white gravy was already DRIEDOUT on the top, which means that it had been sitting out for awhile. NOGOOD. To make matters worse, the gravy did not have all that much flavor! That was such a shame, because good gravy can make a world of a difference. The chicken itself was breaded and fried, and it was okay. Once again, I think it needed more salt/flavor. The hash browns were plentiful and not bad. I could definitely taste the butter though. I also ate my friend’s cornbread muffin. It was good, slightly sweet and had good texture. My friends who had the barbeque ribs and chicken leg quarter, thought they were okay. I tried a some rib meat and thought the same thing they did. My friends noted that they did the hard part right, which was cooking the meat enough so that it was cooked but not dry. However, like my chicken, the ribs were a bit underseasoned. That was too bad since the meat was really juicy! Service was good — the ladies were quite nice. I just wished that the food was seasoned a bit more…
