I went my entire undergraduate degree with out every once stepping into study unless it was finals. I recently discovered this sunny, well lit, quiet only room on the third floor where you basically get to hide away in the stacks. It’s the perfect environment for grad students that need to do their thesis writing but have a lot of distractions in their office. As far as random public reading, like sci fi and british literature, this isn’t the best place to go. But, if you need anything at all as a geoscientist, this is one of the state repositories for documents that aren’t online yet and that are difficult to find as hard copies. Go MINES! The best coffee spot on campus(voted so by my research consorita) is to your right as you walk in. No need to cave to corporate America and do the Starbucks in Brown.

Arthur Lakes is the Colorado School of Mines library. However, they are open to the public and offer many public events. As far as school library goes, this one is is constantly filled with the low humming vibes of students studying and madly working away. Although it is a very quiet place to work, it can also get pretty stressful around midterms and finals. They have several computer stations for student use only as well as a handful of public use computers. Sometimes there are concerts held in the library, and from what I’ve heard, they’re quite nice! Students staff the check out counter and the coffee cart in the lobby.
