Golden Moon Speakeasy

I’ve been meaning to try this place for quite some time! I was not disappointed. It’s a pretty cozy place with a unique atmosphere. The menu is a bit overwhelming but the bartenders are more than willing to give you suggestions. I had the Cloud City and it was pretty tasty; a bit too sweet for a second drink (just my taste) so I ordered their version of whiskey and ginger ale. They did it with their house whiskey and ginger beer and it was pretty amazing. This is definitely a venue for a special night: a little pricey, but so worth it!

Good drinks and not your average bar. Makes me feel like I’m living in the 1920’s. A little pricy but very much a special place. Not to mention it’s a speakeasy so it takes awhile to find. I would recommend this place for sure.

I’ve lived in Golden for a year now and just heard about this place. I was invited to attend a birthday party happy hour. You can access the unmarked door with cool symbols above it off the west side of Washington St. underneath the Welcome to Golden sign. You will walk up some stairs and suddenly feel like you are walking through a strange indoor dark alley — keep going! As you get closer, you will feel yourself being transformed into a more mysterious and swankier version of yourself. Go through the door at the end of the hall and you will start to hear hushed posh conversations muffled — go through one more door on your right and you have arrived! I’ve been told you can park in back and easily access it, but I think the way I take sets the mood for your speakeasy experience!
The whole atmosphere is great — exposed brick, large bar, comfortable, cozy seating, and a little stage where sophisticated live music takes place. This is exactly the setting you want your speakeasy to be!
The drink selection is almost overwhelming but there isn’t a single thing on the list that looks less than amazing. I had already determined this place was the cool headquarters but then I saw star wars themed drink specials. Stellar!
At Golden Moon, the bartending is serious business. The whiskey magicians behind the counter were the best I’ve ever seen. Now as a food critic, and by critic I mean I watch a lot of Kitchen Nightmares and Top Chef Junior — so obviously I am highly qualified, I notice that many well known chefs recommend for a great chef to be frequently sampling and trying their food in order to determine if the flavor is right. I’ve never translated this theory to drinks. The man making my drink sampled (hygienically of course) my drink and adjusted the flavor to perfection as he made it. I was blown away. My drink was also properly mixed and touched three glasses minimum before hitting it’s final destination. For the highest quality of service and skill you receive, their drinks are certainly not only priced right but almost too good of a deal!
A great place for a small group, an intimate date, or just to hangout and instantly feel cooler about yourself.

Excellent atmosphere, cool location, craft distillery with several wonderful liquors. Unique tasting and cleverly named cocktails. Highly recommend trying the flight of their spirits. Love the absenthe and have bought bottles of the Curaçao, rye and crème de violette.
The staff are great, friendly and easy going and add to the experience.

Visited this distillery for a drink on a recommendation from some Golden small business owners who had been meaning to try it out themselves. So, we were to report back to them our thoughts after our visit. We LOVE a good distillery, especially gin concoctions and always like to support local business’.
We were completely ignored in this establishment. We sat at the end of the bar and no one greeted us. We had to find our own menus only to sit for another good 10 minutes before someone (who seemed to be working the floor) came and gave us water but that was it. Never did any of the 3 bartenders ever even acknowledge us. One woman bartender was pouring a drink, another bartender was organizing and straightening the bars shakers and water bottles and talking back and forth to the last bartender who was just cutting lemons with his back to the customers. We waited a little while longer and decided not to take this poor customer service. So, we left and reported back to the ladies that so sweetly recommended us go there of how disappointed we were in this experience.
Customer service is at an all time low and this establishment has very poor service. For the amount they charge for one drink you would think it would be a priority. Will not be back.

This place is one of a kind. It houses endless exquisitely-​made cocktails that you will not find anywhere. Seriously, these bartenders are wizards.
I came here with my family (of 7) after graduation and they allowed us to push two tables together to seat our group. We all ordered a variety of drinks (polar vortex, old fashioned, whiskey sour, horcrux, and rock n rye to name a few.). I should preface that most of us are from a farming community in Texas. So complex cocktails made some of us very nervous! Haha. But everyone really enjoyed their drinks and the live music.

The bar is very nice, spirits are top notch and Golden Moon is the best gin around. I recommend going to sample their unique distilled spirits.
That said, happy hour was lacking. We came in to have signature cocktails at happy hour, and instead we found that the happy hour drinks were various Jones Soda with various Golden Moon spirits.
We would have much preferred a happy hour where the 12 $ signature cocktails come down a few bucks to 8 $ or so. We would have had two drinks if that had been the case!

This place is gorgeous! I was stunned by the décor and overall feel of the place. The drink meal was very elaborate, easily with a drink for any person. They had a great seasonal selection, which I love to see. They give you salted peanuts to snack on while you drink, which was a plus. The server were attentive and actively asked how we were doing. There are plenty of board games on a book shelf to keep you entertained as you slip on your drinks. 5/​5, will come back again!

I love a good craft cocktail, b/​c I can’t make them myself and others make them so well. This place has hundreds of them! The menu is a book organized by liquor type. We liked it so much, we went twice while we were in golden. Note, they don’t have any beers.
They also have a big garage door that they open when the weather is nice, so it gives the place a nice indoor outdoor feel, but I can see it being really cozy in the winter too.

Our favorite place to go for cocktails. The staff is great and the drinks are even better. Cocktails made here are fresh and inventive, classic and well crafted. Don’t come here looking for beer and Sex on the Beach, you will not find them here. Strictly high quality cocktails. A tip of the hat to Carly and the staff.

I have not a single complaint about this place. Personally I think more establishments should try to be like the Golden Moon Speakeasy. Excellent drinks, knowledgeable staff and great snack food. Wish we had discovered it earlier in our stay! Would have definitely went back.

The drinks here are lovely, but definitely a bit spendy. The atmosphere is great as long there isn’t live music… I know that seems taboo to say, and I like live music as much or more than the next person, but the space is just too loud when there is a live band… Service is usually pretty good, but there does seem to be a fair amount of employee turnover. The good news is that the drinks are always wonderful regardless.

Trendy hipster hangout. No beer, no vodka. Over expensive. Service was horrible, they dropped the check on the table before the drinks even arrived.

I bought a Groupon for ‘caviar and cocktails’ and found a true hidden gem in Golden!
The entrance is literally back alley. They serve craft cocktails made with their own distilled spirits; even absinthe is on the menu. They also serve wonderful ‘pick your favorite’ cured meat and cheese boards. A great place for happy hour and small group gatherings.

My GF from Pittsburg visited me and we literally stumpled upon Golden Moon! It took us a bit to get what they’re doing and when we figured it all out… what a great concept! Fun, cozy, sat outside on the patio in Feburary and enjoyed drinks, catching up, great weather!

Went with the girls to use an auction purchase– thank you for supporting Kyffin elementary!- lovely drinks, live music, cool speakeasy vibe (fun to find) had meat and cheese and caviar to munch on. Really a star in a one horse town.

This place was a cool little find. The drinks and the charcuterie board were tasty. All of the cheese was local which was also cool. We tried their flight of liqueurs, which gives you a taste of a few of your choice. But I highly recommend the Absynthe. I’ve never been a huge fan, but we ended up bringing home a bottle of theirs and love to sip on it occasionally.

I think I’m in love with Mr. Purple…
We visited for the first time last night and can’t wait for the next childless night so we can go back! Great service, chill atmosphere and amazing drinks! All ages were there and the live music was a great plus!

I went here recently to hear a friend’s duo play. After our direction challenges, we made it inside. The L-​shaped place is cozy and comfortable. They have a nice range of seating options for intimate to larger groups.
I had recently tasted the Golden Moon gin, so I decided to do a taster of everything. This meant they poured every product into a miniature fluted glass. It was about a ¹⁄₃ to ½ shot of each.
My favorite ones were the absinthe and picon. The absinthe had a strong licorice profile and had good volume. The picon was a flavorful bitter with not too much of an aftertaste.
Other pours I found too harsh which included every grappa.
Overall, it was a good experience and I appreciate they support live music.

One of the best bar experiences I’ve ever had.
John & Noah were incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. They take their craft very seriously, but still have a ton of fun. They were willing to spend time explaining their recommendations and talking through the distilling process and establishment history.
The atmosphere is exactly what you’d think when you hear the word «speakeasy.» Plush furnishings and wood. Darker vibe. This would be an incredible date spot.
The cocktails are all colorful, flavorful and unique. They take their time crafting them and the attention to detail pays off. I would recommend the To Be Drank Often and In Large Quantities and anything with their Crème de Violette. I also tried the Polar Vortex (an Absinthe cocktail) and Autumn in Wisconsin, all were incredible.
