Peak Cycles

This bike shop is the closest bike shop to the Colorado School of Mines excepting the on campus ORC. They feature excellent mechanics and what seemed to me to be a large range of bike products. I went in to buy a bike lock and this was the only place in Golden that had a combination ulock complete with a chord to lock your wheels. I would have bought it here if the exact model hadn’t been a little less expensive on Amazon. If you need expertise, this is a good place to go!

I bought a suspension fork part from their on-​line store (
) and had an issue with it. I brought the whole bike in the next day, and Daniel enthusiastically jumped in and started to diagnose the problem. 10 minutes later, problem solved. He seemed *genuinely* happy to help.
I noticed a few things about this visit:
— As I rolled the bike into the shop, Daniel commented «nice bike». What a nice feeling to have a mechanic make a compliment on a bike brand that they don’t sell.
— He never even asked if I bought the part there (I did)
— He didn’t make me feel like I was interrupting his work
— He didn’t even hint at charging me for the work
Regrettably, I didn’t have any tip $ on me, so I stopped in the next day and dropped some cash in the tip box.
We have 4 bike shops to choose from in Golden. Peak Cycles consistently provides good, friendly service.
A different Golden bike shop gave me that «you-are-interrupting-me-but-I’ll-reluctantly-look-at-your-bike» look when I stopped in to tighten up a cassette a few weeks back. That guy only barely registered a hint of a personality when I dropped $ 10 on the table for his 3 minutes of work.
Peak Cycles will continue to be my go-​to bike shop in Golden!

We are pass-​er-​buyers through Golden the last few months. I have stopped into Peak cycles a few times to browse and look at the «strider» style balance bikes for kids. On Tuesday night we went in to finally buy the long sought after balance bike for the toddler and the staff was GREAT. Very helpful and attentive in a non-​annoying way. We were in the store for well over an hour making sure the we were picking to right bike (there were three to pick from) and we were never made to feel like we should just buy and get out. Again, the staff was great (didn’t catch names) and we finally settled on a specialized brand hot pink balance bike. We got a few other odds and ends and were agreed that it would be over $ 200.00 for everything, sigh… The bill was only $ 150.00 and we realized that the great staff gave us a great discount! P.S: They have great road, mountain and hybrid bikes for sale or to build but they are pricey. But hey, if you are an intense rider, you are going to want a GREAT quality bike!

Overpriced and poor work.
This place quoted me a price range to build a bike from parts. They came in over the price range, and no extra work popped up to justify it. That felt like a bait and switch just to get the work. Another shop guaranteed a price higher than the quote from this place. This place came in over their quote and more expensive than the other place. Disappointed and probably cheated.
Worse than that, they forgot to bleed my brakes. When I went on my first ride I had no brakes and had to drive back to town. Did they fix it right away? No. They required me to go back into the rotation and wait a week to fix their screw-​up. No apologies. No urgent attention. Another week without my bike because of their ineptitude.
A few months later, my rear shock blew out. The cause of the failure was improper mounting of the shock. It was not even close to being done right. It was obviously wrong to anyone with common sense. That cost me $ 100 for a rebuild.
This shop is terrible. I wouldn’t buy anything from them. I most certainly would not let them do any more work on my bike… even if it was free.
Going here was a huge mistake.

These guys are great. My buddy and I were in town to do an event, and when we flew in a couple of days earlier the airlines managed to knock the real derailleurs on both bikes way out of alignment. We brought them over to Peak and they fixed both bikes perfectly in just a couple of mins, and charged a combined $ 5 for the job. Peak rocks.

Best bike shop in Golden. Bought a Giant road bike here, good prices. And be sure to get a professional fit from George. The staff is helpful and friendly. Can’t beat it!

When I first moved to Golden, I was bike shop shopping and came across some snobby ones. I found peak and they were super down to earth and helpful. I have been going in ever since, and every single time I go in, they have been nothing but warm and kind. A guy by the name of Chad (I think) took my bike in and fixed it in two days, when he was completely swomped. They are always willing to help you out in a timely manner and are really really nice! I recommend everyone to them and am now having another friend of mine switch to start going to them. Oh! And their prices beat every other bike shop in town! I love these guys!

I ordered a rear wheel from their website
. A few hours later I got a call that wheel was out of stock. The guy offered me an upgraded mavic wheel. My first thought was more money, how convenient for them.
When I asked him how much it extra it would be he told me he would sell the wheel to me for the exact same price and he even matched the color to the other wheel on my bike. Customer service that good is practically unheard of! Thank you very much Peak Cycles!

This is based on their shipping policies. Don’t bother paying for quick shipping, because they don’t even bother to ship it for almost two days. I placed an order on Thursday at 4pm and they did not even ship it until Monday. When they called they said that this is explained on the website that I needed to order before 2pm two days before it ships. They clearly have not learned that they need to have quicker processing times. So, be aware that your Two day shipping is really 4 to 5 day shipping. Buy from Amazon if you can. They ship in hours after ordering express and even two day arrives the next day sometime.

Mistakes happen, and I’m not one to hold mistakes against a place if they are rare, and if they go out of there way to fix the problem once it’s discovered. Such was my first experience at Peak. I had a special order that didn’t arrive the day they said because somehow the paperwork was misplaced and the order never went in. Oops! That said, however, they got the part rushed in the next day and put it on my bike free of charge. I was in the shop for over an hour on two different occasions, and they treated everyone with the same level of care. If you’re looking for Specialized, or Giant, or just great service and knowledgeable mechanics, you couldn’t do much better. Now I have two bike shops that I wouldn’t hesitate to go to in Golden.

Peak Cycles is a great bike shop. We bought a mtn bike for my wife from Peak several weeks ago. There was a slight issue when we got home, I was worried how the bike shop would respond. Needless to say, they took care of us and completely exceeded by expectations. This is a great shop with awesome customer service and I don’t hesitate to recommend them.

These guys do a great job and the service is fantastic! And if you want parts, they got parts! You can order almost anything bike related from their website and then pick it up in a day or two from the shop. So convenient. And the service is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful — no snooty attitude here… which unfortunately seems to plague many bike shops. The bike shop is also very involved with the community — one more reason to spend our bike dollars here. Thanks Peak!

I bring my commute bike there twice a year for a «big» tune-​up and have always been happy with the results. Maybe they are not quite as technically competent as Excel in Boulder. But they also don’t have the attitude. The people working there do not believe they are better (more hardcore, cooler) than their customers. Instead they give consistent, friendly service. They even recommend cheaper parts than what I’m asking for!
They have a fair selection of parts. If they do not have what you need in store, they are happy to help you choose in their web-​warehouse, and you can pick it up the next day.
The new space in the Foss building is gorgeous. They added a bike-​fitting machine and have a lot of bikes on display. Very nice to be in.
Very reasonable prices.

Called up to see if they had fork oil for my mountain bike and to generally check them out. I thought it would be convenient to find a bike shop in Golden since I ride out there quite a bit. The guy answering the phone sounded bored and like he had better things to do than answer my questions. I asked him how much it would cost, so he put me on hold for a minute, then hung up. So that told me what I needed to know… spend my money someplace else.
