State 38 Distilling

We love supporting local business and we were very happy to find State 38, so much so after doing a tour and tasting we decided to take our kids on their next visit to Colorado. On our first visit we bought a bottle of Anejo as a gift, and learned during this visit, a mere four months later, the bottle had dropped over $ 20 in price from what we paid. We were puzzled — based on the tour the prices for ingredients had gone up, so logic would tell you the price would have been less four months ago and more now not the other way around. Perhaps we were charged what he thought we might pay, perhaps you are supposed to barter or perhaps the already generous tip we left was not enough. Either way we are left with a bad taste in our mouths.

Go check this place out! We loved it the moment we walked through the door. Sean welcomed us into his space and shared his story. JT was great. We tried all the spirits and bought the gin and the anejo. Yum. Support your local distillery!

I have had the luck and pleasure to enjoy several tastings with State 38. The agave based spirits are so good, it would a shame to do anything but sip them. I plan to give the State 38 reposado to my brother for Christmas and the gin (personal favorite) to my sister. Sean and the State 38 crew are doing something right!

Go for a taste, but be sure to get the tour as well!
All products distilled are made with Agave. The Tequila was excellent, but I was surprised that I especially liked the Gin. Rather than repeat what others have said, I’ll just say I agree with the other 5 star reviews 100%.

Fantastic and thorough tour with excellent spirits. Walked in thinking it would be another hipster distiller playing on marketing gimmicks. Not the case at all. Fantastic experience.

Well, there is one more HUGE reason that I love living in Colorado… This place! This smaller custom distillery is snuggled away in Golden and I owe a thank you to a buddy for bringing me out here. The couple that owns/​runs this distillery is certainly nice enough, but good heavens the products are the best I have ever consumed.
They have a tasting room and offer tours, but the triple distilled Tequila and Vodka (yes, vodka) are insanely good. Even straight-​up at room temp is excellent, but out of the freezer or fresh from the shaker as a martini is pure heaven,
The owner does supply a handful of stores but doesn’t produce enough to ship out of state, or even keep up with demand… so you need to get on the web and schedule a tour, get some tasting in and enjoy a bottle (they keep enough in stock at the distillery).

By far the best distillery tour I have ever experienced. Sean, the owner, took us through a very detailed and interesting tour of this unique, local distillery. We sipped on some of the best agave spirits I have ever tasted as we toured the site. I was incredibly impressed by the attention to detail in every aspect — the tour, the appearance, and most importantly the taste of the product.
I highly recommend this Golden gem :)
