Came to Black Hawk from Vegas for a poker tourney. The town in a pleasant surprise. The buffet was certainly adequate and the entire staff at the Ameristar is very friendly.

After several bad dining experiences in Black Hawk, we finally found a place that wasn’t so bad. We had a wait a bit for a table, but with the slot machines right outside the door kept us entertained. I had a club sandwich. Pretty generic, white bread and artificial cheese, chewy fries and they forgot my pickles. But when compared to the horrible options at the Isle /Lady Luck complex, it was wonderful! This place is buried on the Lady Luck Casino up on the top floor above the craps and black jack tables. Forget the Calypso Buffet, don’t even think about the Tradewinds Marketplace, The Station Café is a much better option for a quick bite to eat!

I go up to Black Hawk once in a while and I haven’t really tried other places but I found no reason to since this one satisfied me just fine… I didn’t expect much since it’s a place in the casino so I figured they just wanted you to eat and get out to lose some more money, so quality isn’t exactly high on their priority list… but to my surprise the food here is better than some other places I’ve had back in Denver… I’ve had their BBQ ribs now and who knew you’ll find decent ribs up in Black Hawk… the right amount of sauce and decent portions with the price…(about $ 12 for a food slab I think) We went cheap one time and had their all you can eat pancake for about $ 4, pretty decent too… for that quality and amount, I’ll be willing to even pay $ 7… Services are mostly ok, except for the last time we went, the waiter was kinda crappy and there were a couple of mistakes, but lucky for us, the manager was the one who brought out the food and she sensed our disappointment/frustration, and she comped us the whole tab… not a huge amount but make us feel all warm and fuzzy inside to overlook the errors by the waiter… I guess the café is probably not where the casino plan to make its money at, but the quality of food exceeds their prices in my opinion… Surely is a good place to grab a bite when you don’t feel like stuffing yourself stupid at the buffet or doing anything too fancy at their restaurant…
